Bertazzoni dishwashers
Bertazzoni's DW24 dishwashers (built by Midea to the brand's design) publish a compact official code set: E1 fill, E4 overflow, Ed signal, E9 stuck key. Short lists are honest lists - and E4 after moving the machine is the classic false alarm we resolve without drama.
A photo of the model label and the complete installation helps the team understand the configuration before the visit.
24-inch tall-tub with the pro handle.
24-inch with panel variants - the documented code manual's model.
Designed to match Bertazzoni ranges and refrigeration.
Stated openly - the E1/E4/Ed/E9 dialect is platform-typical.
Start with the symptom
A symptom narrows the inspection; it does not identify the failed component. The $99 visit confirms the actual fault on the exact model before any repair is authorized.
Drain path and pump - with E4's float checked for the true story.
The E1 checklist: tap, hose, pressure, valve.
Rinse aid and heater performance on condensation drying.
San Diego hard water versus detergent dosing.
Latch and strike alignment on panel doors.
The Ed hint - sensor signals tested rather than shrugged at.
Series and model numbers
One platform, four codes, no folklore - the shortest honest dialect in our luxury lineup.
Model label
The serial label is on the right side edge of the dishwasher door - visible with the door open. Photograph the complete label — the full model and serial identify parts and production year better than the series name alone.
Indicators and alerts
For any message not shown, use the manual for the exact model rather than a generic list.
Bertazzoni diagnostics
All four codes verbatim from the official DW24XV use-and-care manual - the complete public dialect. Anything beyond these four is read from service data, not invented.
Preventive service and owner care
Alpha Pro provides preventive and general maintenance for Bertazzoni dishwashers. The appliance design determines which procedures are accessible and appropriate.
Owner maintenance
Professional maintenance
A professional visit can evaluate accessible systems without assuming every procedure applies to every model.
Diagnosis before parts
Call or book with the model label, exact behavior, any displayed codes, photos, and access notes.
The technician examines the reported condition in context: fill, wash, drain, drying, controls, leaks, and relevant components.
Findings and proposed work are explained before repair proceeds. The residential diagnostic is credited toward an approved repair.
Service area and operating context
Alpha Pro serves dishwashers across La Jolla - the Village, La Jolla Shores, Bird Rock, Muirlands and the Torrey Pines corridor, plus UC San Diego campus housing. Coastal air, condo logistics and hard county water all shape how dishwashers age here.
La Jolla kitchens run heavily to integrated, panel-ready dishwashers - Bosch, Miele, Cove - installed flush into custom cabinetry from the Shores to the Village. Hard water leaves film on glassware and scale in spray arms, and open-plan coastal homes make new noises impossible to ignore. Service here means protecting the panels and the finish while fixing the machine underneath.
La Jolla kitchens carry a high share of panel-integrated dishwashers - Bosch, Miele, Cove. They are diagnosed and repaired in place, cabinetry untouched.
White film on glassware in 92037 usually traces to hard water and dosing; rinse-aid settings and scale are reviewed before parts are replaced.
In open-plan coastal homes a new noise matters. Pumps and spray behavior are compared against the model's normal sound signature.
During maintenance, accessible metal surfaces can be inspected for corrosion, moisture exposure, or conditions that may warrant attention. Location alone does not establish the cause of a failure.
A better repair decision
There is no honest universal age or price threshold. Start with the exact model and a diagnosis.
Local notes · La Jolla
In a La Jolla condo tower, a dishwasher leak is not only your problem. Water that escapes the base pan can travel through the floor to the unit below, and HOA rules often decide who pays. That is why we treat an E4 code on a Bertazzoni here as urgent. The rest of the local picture adds up too: very hard city water that scales heaters and spray arms, damp marine air around the electronics, and Village parking that runs on a clock. We plan the visit around all of it and bring the right parts the first time when stock allows.
La Jolla is a mix of housing that rarely sits side by side elsewhere. Pre-1972 oceanfront high-rises such as 939 Coast Boulevard, built in 1966 with 164 units, sit a few blocks from rare surviving beach cottages and Irving Gill era buildings. Since Proposition D capped new coastal buildings west of I-5 at 30 feet, most other homes are low-rise, but those older towers hold many compact kitchens where a 24-inch Bertazzoni fits well. In a stacked building, the dishwasher's overflow protection is the last line of defense for the ceiling below. The City of San Diego's 2025 water report lists average hardness between 237 and 243 mg/L, about 14 grains per gallon, depending on the treatment plant. That is very hard, and it leaves calcium on the heating element, spray arms and inlet screen. Marine-layer months from May through August keep coastal air damp, and salt-laden air near the water is known to corrode electrical connectors over time. On a dishwasher, the exposed connections sit behind the kick plate near the floor. A connector that develops resistance there can interrupt the signals the control expects, which is one route to an Ed fault.
Symptom: E4 on the display, the drain pump running continuously, perhaps a damp kick plate or a neighbor reporting a ceiling stain. Cause: Water collecting in the base pan from a loose hose connection, a worn sump seal or a failing door gasket, enough to lift the overflow float. Fix: Close the supply valve right away. We find the leak source, replace the part, dry the pan and confirm the float resets before any test cycle.
Symptom: The cycle stops with Ed, sometimes only on damp mornings, then works again later. Cause: An abnormal signal lasting more than 20 seconds. Corroded or loose harness connectors, a failing sensor, or less often the control board itself. Fix: Clean and reseat connectors, test each sensor in the circuit, and replace the board only when measurements confirm it.
Symptom: Spotted glasses, gritty residue on plates, a white coating inside the tub. Cause: About 14 grains of hardness with too little rinse aid, cool water at the start of the cycle, or scale in the spray arm jets. Fix: Descale the tub, clear the arms, raise the rinse aid dose and make sure inlet water reaches roughly 120 degrees F as the manual advises.
Symptom: E1 shortly after starting, with little water in the tub. Cause: Mineral buildup on the inlet valve screen, a sticky shutoff, or reduced building pressure at upper floors. Fix: Measure pressure at the connection, clean the screen, and replace the inlet valve if it fails its test.
Two habits matter most here. First, fight scale steadily with rinse aid and a periodic descaling run. Second, watch for leaks, because in a condo the cost of a slow drip lands on more than one household. Part-time residents should take extra care: when a dishwasher sits idle for weeks, water in the sump evaporates, seals dry out and odors develop. Run a rinse cycle when you return and look under the sink before a full load.
Street parking in the Village is time-limited, from 30 minutes to three hours, and actively enforced, while La Jolla Shores streets often fill with beach overflow. If your building has a service entrance, loading zone or visitor spot, tell us when you book. High-rise buildings may require an elevator reservation or proof of insurance for contractors; ask your manager in advance. Have the model and serial number, the error code and a photo of the display ready. If water has reached a neighbor, note that too. The $99 diagnostic is credited toward the repair.
Leak and fill repairs usually make sense: the parts are simple and the machine is otherwise fine. A confirmed board failure is where the math shifts. Owners have reported long waits for some Bertazzoni parts coming from Italy, and a back-ordered board on an older machine can leave you without a dishwasher for weeks. Since 24-inch units share a standard opening, replacement is a real option in that case. We give you both answers.

We take requests across La Jolla - ZIP 92037, plus UC San Diego campus housing (92092, 92093). Share gate codes, elevators, parking or HOA rules when booking so the technician can plan the visit.
Yes. It is non-refundable and credited toward the total repair cost if you proceed. There are no residential exceptions.
A 90-day labor warranty and a 1-year parts warranty, both starting on the date the repair is completed.
No. A symptom narrows the search, but the diagnostic visit on the exact model confirms the actual fault before any repair is authorized.
The overflow float in the base pan tripped. It can be a real leak - or residual water after moving the machine, which drying resolves. The visit tells which honestly.
Publicly, yes - E1, E4, Ed, E9 per the official manual. Deeper faults are read from service data during the visit.
On the right side edge of the door - open it to see.
Midea, to Bertazzoni's design - stated openly; it informs parts sourcing and makes the platform well-understood.
Usually water or an object on the controls for over 30 seconds. Clean and dry first; persistent E9 means keypad service.
Turn off the water supply valve under the sink, then switch off the dishwasher at its breaker or unplug it if you can reach the plug safely. Check the floor and let your building manager know if water may have reached the unit below. Then call us to trace the leak.
Less than it affects outdoor equipment, but damp, salty air still reaches indoor connectors and stainless trim, especially in homes near the water that keep windows open. The effect is gradual. Loose or corroded connections can show up as intermittent codes such as Ed.
Yes. Many La Jolla HOAs and property managers ask for it before contractors work inside a unit. Tell us the building name and the manager's email when you book, and we will send it ahead so the visit is not held up at the front desk.
Detergent alone does not handle 14-grain water. Rinse aid lets water sheet off instead of drying in droplets that leave minerals behind. Also run the kitchen tap hot before starting, since cool inlet water weakens cleaning. If spots persist, the spray arms may be scaled.
