Bertazzoni dishwashers
Bertazzoni's DW24 dishwashers (built by Midea to the brand's design) publish a compact official code set: E1 fill, E4 overflow, Ed signal, E9 stuck key. Short lists are honest lists - and E4 after moving the machine is the classic false alarm we resolve without drama.
A photo of the model label and the complete installation helps the team understand the configuration before the visit.
24-inch tall-tub with the pro handle.
24-inch with panel variants - the documented code manual's model.
Designed to match Bertazzoni ranges and refrigeration.
Stated openly - the E1/E4/Ed/E9 dialect is platform-typical.
Start with the symptom
A symptom narrows the inspection; it does not identify the failed component. The $99 visit confirms the actual fault on the exact model before any repair is authorized.
Drain path and pump - with E4's float checked for the true story.
The E1 checklist: tap, hose, pressure, valve.
Rinse aid and heater performance on condensation drying.
San Diego hard water versus detergent dosing.
Latch and strike alignment on panel doors.
The Ed hint - sensor signals tested rather than shrugged at.
Series and model numbers
One platform, four codes, no folklore - the shortest honest dialect in our luxury lineup.
Model label
The serial label is on the right side edge of the dishwasher door - visible with the door open. Photograph the complete label — the full model and serial identify parts and production year better than the series name alone.
Indicators and alerts
For any message not shown, use the manual for the exact model rather than a generic list.
Bertazzoni diagnostics
All four codes verbatim from the official DW24XV use-and-care manual - the complete public dialect. Anything beyond these four is read from service data, not invented.
Preventive service and owner care
Alpha Pro provides preventive and general maintenance for Bertazzoni dishwashers. The appliance design determines which procedures are accessible and appropriate.
Owner maintenance
Professional maintenance
A professional visit can evaluate accessible systems without assuming every procedure applies to every model.
Diagnosis before parts
Call or book with the model label, exact behavior, any displayed codes, photos, and access notes.
The technician examines the reported condition in context: fill, wash, drain, drying, controls, leaks, and relevant components.
Findings and proposed work are explained before repair proceeds. The residential diagnostic is credited toward an approved repair.
Service area and operating context
Poway sits in the hills off I-15 - ranch properties of Old Poway, gated Green Valley, newer streets off Espola Road. Garage refrigerators fight summer heat, canyon dust clogs condensers, and hard water leaves scale in ice makers and washer valves.
Inland heat and hard water set the pattern here: garage refrigerators work hardest in summer, dust clogs condensers, and scale builds in ice makers, dishwashers and washer valves.
During maintenance, accessible metal surfaces can be inspected for corrosion, moisture exposure, or conditions that may warrant attention. Location alone does not establish the cause of a failure.
A better repair decision
There is no honest universal age or price threshold. Start with the exact model and a diagnosis.
Local notes · Poway
The City of Poway itself warns residents that calcium in the water causes white spots on dishes. When a Bertazzoni owner here calls about cloudy glasses, the machine is often fine and the problem is the combination of very hard water and lukewarm fill water. In large, spread-out family homes, the kitchen can sit a long pipe run from the water heater. We sort out which part of the problem is chemistry, which is plumbing and which is a real component failure, then fix what actually needs fixing.
Poway treats its own water at the Lester J. Berglund plant, mostly from imported supply with a small share from Lake Poway. The city's 2024 report shows a distribution average of 236 mg/L, about 13.8 grains per gallon, and a city FAQ cites an even higher figure. Either way it is very hard, and the city notes the white spotting that follows. Hardness is only half of it. Bertazzoni's manual references inlet water of about 120 degrees F for good results. Poway's housing is mostly single-family, built largely between 1970 and 1999, with many four- and five-bedroom homes. In a big floor plan, the first gallon or two reaching the dishwasher can be cold water that sat in the line, and the machine starts washing before hot water arrives. Cool water dissolves detergent poorly and leaves more mineral residue. Those larger households, averaging 2.9 people, also run more loads, so scale builds on the heater and inlet screen at a steady pace. Poway residents have also faced wildfire evacuations, including during the 2003 Cedar Fire and 2007 Witch Fire. A dishwasher left idle during any long absence can lose the water that seals its sump, drying seals and inviting odors.
Symptom: Cloudy glassware, residue on plates, a chalky coating inside the door. Cause: Very hard water, cool inlet water in homes with long pipe runs, empty rinse aid dispenser, or spray arm jets narrowed by scale. Fix: Descale the tub, clean the arms and filter, set rinse aid, and have the owner run the sink tap hot before each start. We check fill temperature as part of the diagnosis.
Symptom: The cycle aborts early with E1 and the tub stays mostly dry. Cause: Calcium on the inlet valve screen, a shutoff valve that has seized partly closed, or a failed inlet valve. Fix: Open and test the stop, clean the screen, then replace the valve if the coil or diaphragm fails testing.
Symptom: Grinding or humming during drain; an inch of water in the sump afterward. Cause: Heavy loads from a large household pack the filter, pushing debris toward the pump; a kinked drain hose or clogged disposer inlet adds restriction. Fix: Clean the drain path, correct the hose routing, and replace the pump if the impeller is damaged.
Symptom: E9 appears and the panel stops responding normally. Cause: A button pressed for more than 30 seconds, often by a pan leaning on the panel or a stuck key. Fix: Clear anything touching the controls. If E9 returns with nothing pressing, we test the keypad and control for a stuck contact.
Start every cycle with hot water already at the faucet; it costs nothing and fixes many complaints. Keep rinse aid full and use fresh automatic dishwasher detergent, since old powder clumps and dissolves poorly. Because the house water is so hard, descaling is part of normal care, not an emergency step. If you leave the house for weeks, run a rinse when you return before trusting the machine with a full load.
Most Poway homes have driveway parking and easy access, though some rural and equestrian properties sit on private or dirt roads; share directions or gate details if that applies. Please have the model and serial number, the code shown and a description of the wash results. If spotting is the complaint, keep a few affected glasses unwashed so we can see the residue. Clear the cabinet under the sink so we can reach the valves. The $99 diagnostic is credited toward the repair, and we confirm part availability before scheduling the return visit.
Spotting problems often need no parts at all, just setup and descaling. Valves, pumps and hoses are sensible repairs. An aging Bertazzoni with a failed control is the case to think through, since some parts come from Italy and owners have reported multi-week waits. Because 24-inch dishwashers fit a standard opening, replacement is simple if the wait is too long.

Yes. It is non-refundable and credited toward the total repair cost if you proceed. There are no residential exceptions.
A 90-day labor warranty and a 1-year parts warranty, both starting on the date the repair is completed.
No. A symptom narrows the search, but the diagnostic visit on the exact model confirms the actual fault before any repair is authorized.
The overflow float in the base pan tripped. It can be a real leak - or residual water after moving the machine, which drying resolves. The visit tells which honestly.
Publicly, yes - E1, E4, Ed, E9 per the official manual. Deeper faults are read from service data during the visit.
On the right side edge of the door - open it to see.
Midea, to Bertazzoni's design - stated openly; it informs parts sourcing and makes the platform well-understood.
Usually water or an object on the controls for over 30 seconds. Clean and dry first; persistent E9 means keypad service.
A whole-house softener reduces scale on every fixture and appliance, including the dishwasher heater and valves. It is a household decision beyond appliance repair. Without one, rinse aid and regular descaling do most of the work for the dishwasher itself.
Cold pipes mean the first water reaching the dishwasher is cooler for longer, especially in large homes with long runs from the water heater. Cooler water cleans less well and leaves more mineral residue. Run the tap hot before starting and the difference is usually clear.
The manual lists E9 as a button held for more than 30 seconds. Often something is leaning on the control panel. Remove it and restart. If the code returns with nothing touching the panel, a key may be stuck and the keypad or control needs testing.
Probably not. When a machine sits unused, water in the sump evaporates and odors from the drain can come back through. Clean the filter, run a hot rinse cycle, and check for leaks. If the smell persists after a few cycles, the drain path may be partly blocked.
