Bosch dishwashers
Bosch dishwashers dominate San Diego kitchens for a reason, and their E-code system is the industry's most transparent: E15 for water in the base, E24 and E25 for the drain path, E09 for heating. Most of these codes have official self-help steps - and the ones that don't get honest instrument diagnosis on a platform we service daily.
A photo of the model label and the complete installation helps the team understand the configuration before the visit.
Top-drawer flexibility, interior lighting and the quietest ratings in the line.
The sweet spot - CrystalDry on current models, bar-handle and pocket-handle styles.
The most-installed Bosch machines in the county - AutoAir drying on the 500s.
The accessible Bosch - same hydraulic DNA, simpler trim.
Start with the symptom
A symptom narrows the inspection; it does not identify the failed component. The $99 visit confirms the actual fault on the exact model before any repair is authorized.
Condensation drying needs rinse aid and a healthy heater - checked in that order.
The E22/E24/E25 family - filter, path, pump, in order.
San Diego hard water versus the built-in softener settings - a settings fix more often than a fault.
Heating faults stretch cycles - the E09 pattern even without a displayed code.
Latch and hinge tension on panel-heavy doors.
Heater and wiring diagnosis - handled with the respect electricity deserves.
Series and model numbers
Handle style is cosmetic; the E-Nr on the door jamb is the machine's real identity - and the E-code narrows the visit before it begins.
Model label
The rating plate with model (E-Nr), FD date code and serial is on the top or side edge of the inner door panel - open the door and check the jamb. Photograph the whole plate. Photograph the complete label — the full model and serial identify parts and production year better than the series name alone.
Indicators and alerts
For any message not shown, use the manual for the exact model rather than a generic list.
Bosch diagnostics
All five codes carry official Bosch US support pages with self-help steps. Bosch publishes more E-codes than these; anything outside the official set is read in service mode against Bosch data for the exact E-Nr rather than decoded from forums.
Preventive service and owner care
Alpha Pro provides preventive and general maintenance for Bosch dishwashers. The appliance design determines which procedures are accessible and appropriate.
Owner maintenance
Professional maintenance
A professional visit can evaluate accessible systems without assuming every procedure applies to every model.
Diagnosis before parts
Call or book with the model label, exact behavior, any displayed codes, photos, and access notes.
The technician examines the reported condition in context: fill, wash, drain, drying, controls, leaks, and relevant components.
Findings and proposed work are explained before repair proceeds. The residential diagnostic is credited toward an approved repair.
Service area and operating context
Alpha Pro serves dishwashers across La Jolla - the Village, La Jolla Shores, Bird Rock, Muirlands and the Torrey Pines corridor, plus UC San Diego campus housing. Coastal air, condo logistics and hard county water all shape how dishwashers age here.
La Jolla kitchens run heavily to integrated, panel-ready dishwashers - Bosch, Miele, Cove - installed flush into custom cabinetry from the Shores to the Village. Hard water leaves film on glassware and scale in spray arms, and open-plan coastal homes make new noises impossible to ignore. Service here means protecting the panels and the finish while fixing the machine underneath.
La Jolla kitchens carry a high share of panel-integrated dishwashers - Bosch, Miele, Cove. They are diagnosed and repaired in place, cabinetry untouched.
White film on glassware in 92037 usually traces to hard water and dosing; rinse-aid settings and scale are reviewed before parts are replaced.
In open-plan coastal homes a new noise matters. Pumps and spray behavior are compared against the model's normal sound signature.
During maintenance, accessible metal surfaces can be inspected for corrosion, moisture exposure, or conditions that may warrant attention. Location alone does not establish the cause of a failure.
A better repair decision
There is no honest universal age or price threshold. Start with the exact model and a diagnosis.
Local notes · La Jolla
In a La Jolla condo tower, a dishwasher leak is not just your problem; it can reach the unit below. That is one reason Bosch AquaStop matters here, and why an E15 code deserves a prompt call. La Jolla also has plenty of second homes and rentals where a dishwasher sits unused for weeks, and City of San Diego water that averages around 14 grains per gallon. We repair Bosch dishwashers in Village condos, oceanfront buildings and single-family homes from La Jolla Shores to Muirlands.
Bosch 300 series and higher use full AquaStop: a float in the base pan and an automatic shut-off valve at the inlet hose. When water reaches the base, the float lifts, the machine stops filling, and E15 appears. In a high-rise such as 939 Coast Boulevard, built in 1966 with 164 units, that shut-off protects cabinets and the ceiling downstairs. The 100 series has only basic overflow protection. Vacancy is the second La Jolla factor. Second homes and licensed short-term rentals can go weeks between loads. Pump seals can dry out, and standing water in the sump can turn sour and leave odor. Minerals also crust on a filter that dries in place. Then there is the water itself. The City of San Diego's 2025 report shows an average of 237 mg/L, about 13.8 gpg, from the Alvarado plant and 242 mg/L, about 14.1 gpg, from Miramar. The report does not say which plant serves La Jolla, but both are very hard. In a Bosch, that hardness settles on the heater built into the circulation pump. It also leaves spots unless the hardness setting and rinse aid are matched to the water.
Symptom: The dishwasher stops mid-cycle, the drain pump keeps running, and E15 shows. Cause: Water in the base pan from a door seal, loose hose, inlet valve that will not close, leaking pump or sump seal, or suds from hand-dish soap. Fix: Shut off the water. We locate and repair the leak, drain and dry the base pan, and reset the float.
Symptom: A musty or rotten odor when the door opens after vacancy. Cause: Stagnant water in the sump, food trapped in a dried filter, and seals that dried out. Fix: Clean the filter, run a hot rinse and machine clean. If seals leak afterward, we replace them.
Symptom: Cycles run long and dishes are only warm. Cause: Limescale on the flow-through heater from very hard city water. Fix: Descale on the hottest, longest cycle, correct the hardness setting in the menu, and replace the heat pump assembly if the heater is already damaged.
Symptom: The door pops open, will not start, or leaks at the bottom edge. Cause: A worn latch, stretched hinge springs or cables, or a door seal that has hardened and shrunk with age. Fix: We test the door sensor circuit, then replace the latch, springs, cables or seal as needed.
Dishwashers do best when they run regularly. For a home used only part of the year, the simplest protection is a weekly hot rinse by a housekeeper or property manager so seals stay wet. When you leave, clean and dry the filter and prop the door slightly open so the tub can air out. On arrival, run a hot empty cycle before loading dishes. Full-time residents have it easier: regular use keeps seals wet on its own. For them, the priorities are a hardness setting that matches city water, a full rinse aid dispenser and a filter rinse every few weeks.
Tell us the building rules when you book: elevator reservations, loading zones, HOA sign-in or hours when work is allowed. Village parking runs 30 minutes to 3 hours and is enforced, so we plan around it. If you are away, arrange access with a manager or neighbor. Have the model number, the code on the display and a note of any water on the floor ready. For E15, close the supply valve under the sink and avoid running the machine until it is checked.
Most leaks trace to a seal, hose, inlet valve or pump, and these are worth repairing. A dishwasher built into custom cabinetry is also more work to replace. The balance shifts if the tub itself is cracked, or a heat pump or board fails on a lower-series unit past about 8 to 10 years. Our $99 diagnostic credits toward whatever repair you choose.

No. A symptom narrows the search, but the diagnostic visit on the exact model confirms the actual fault before any repair is authorized.
Water reached the base pan and lifted the flood-protection float. Tilting the machine drains the pan and may clear the code - but the leak that caused it still exists and needs to be found.
The disposal's knockout plug is the classic cause - the drain line has nowhere to go. It is a five-minute fix once identified.
Bosch uses condensation drying: rinse aid is mandatory for good results. If rinse aid is dosed and dishes stay wet, the heating system gets tested - that is the E09 territory.
On the top or side edge of the inner door panel - the plate carries the E-Nr, FD date code and serial. Photograph all of it; Bosch parts need the E-Nr and FD together.
All of them - 100 through Benchmark, current and legacy. The hydraulic platform is consistent, and parts order by E-Nr.
Tilting drains the base pan and can reset the float, but it does not fix the leak. Bosch advises shutting the water off and calling service. In a condo, finding the source matters more than clearing the code, because the next leak may reach the unit below.
The City of San Diego's 2025 report does not list neighborhoods by plant, and service areas overlap. Alvarado averaged about 13.8 gpg and Miramar about 14.1 gpg, so set your Bosch for roughly 14 gpg. Either way, the water is very hard.
Usually not. Stagnant water in the sump and food in a dried filter are the common causes. Clean the filter, run a hot machine-clean cycle, and ask your cleaner to run a rinse weekly between guests. If the smell returns quickly, a drain issue may be holding water.
Bosch 300, 500, 800 and Benchmark series have full AquaStop with a leak sensor and automatic shut-off valve. The 100 series has basic overflow protection. Your model number tells us the series, and we can confirm during a visit. If you have a 100 series, a quick look under the sink for drips is worth doing now and then.
