Bosch dishwashers
Bosch dishwashers dominate San Diego kitchens for a reason, and their E-code system is the industry's most transparent: E15 for water in the base, E24 and E25 for the drain path, E09 for heating. Most of these codes have official self-help steps - and the ones that don't get honest instrument diagnosis on a platform we service daily.
A photo of the model label and the complete installation helps the team understand the configuration before the visit.
Top-drawer flexibility, interior lighting and the quietest ratings in the line.
The sweet spot - CrystalDry on current models, bar-handle and pocket-handle styles.
The most-installed Bosch machines in the county - AutoAir drying on the 500s.
The accessible Bosch - same hydraulic DNA, simpler trim.
Start with the symptom
A symptom narrows the inspection; it does not identify the failed component. The $99 visit confirms the actual fault on the exact model before any repair is authorized.
Condensation drying needs rinse aid and a healthy heater - checked in that order.
The E22/E24/E25 family - filter, path, pump, in order.
San Diego hard water versus the built-in softener settings - a settings fix more often than a fault.
Heating faults stretch cycles - the E09 pattern even without a displayed code.
Latch and hinge tension on panel-heavy doors.
Heater and wiring diagnosis - handled with the respect electricity deserves.
Series and model numbers
Handle style is cosmetic; the E-Nr on the door jamb is the machine's real identity - and the E-code narrows the visit before it begins.
Model label
The rating plate with model (E-Nr), FD date code and serial is on the top or side edge of the inner door panel - open the door and check the jamb. Photograph the whole plate. Photograph the complete label — the full model and serial identify parts and production year better than the series name alone.
Indicators and alerts
For any message not shown, use the manual for the exact model rather than a generic list.
Bosch diagnostics
All five codes carry official Bosch US support pages with self-help steps. Bosch publishes more E-codes than these; anything outside the official set is read in service mode against Bosch data for the exact E-Nr rather than decoded from forums.
Preventive service and owner care
Alpha Pro provides preventive and general maintenance for Bosch dishwashers. The appliance design determines which procedures are accessible and appropriate.
Owner maintenance
Professional maintenance
A professional visit can evaluate accessible systems without assuming every procedure applies to every model.
Diagnosis before parts
Call or book with the model label, exact behavior, any displayed codes, photos, and access notes.
The technician examines the reported condition in context: fill, wash, drain, drying, controls, leaks, and relevant components.
Findings and proposed work are explained before repair proceeds. The residential diagnostic is credited toward an approved repair.
Service area and operating context
Poway sits in the hills off I-15 - ranch properties of Old Poway, gated Green Valley, newer streets off Espola Road. Garage refrigerators fight summer heat, canyon dust clogs condensers, and hard water leaves scale in ice makers and washer valves.
Inland heat and hard water set the pattern here: garage refrigerators work hardest in summer, dust clogs condensers, and scale builds in ice makers, dishwashers and washer valves.
During maintenance, accessible metal surfaces can be inspected for corrosion, moisture exposure, or conditions that may warrant attention. Location alone does not establish the cause of a failure.
A better repair decision
There is no honest universal age or price threshold. Start with the exact model and a diagnosis.
Local notes · Poway
The City of Poway's own water FAQ mentions that calcium in the water causes white spots on dishes and buildup on fixtures. Inside a Bosch dishwasher, that same calcium collects on the heater built into the circulation pump. Poway homes also tend to be large: close to half have four or more bedrooms, and households average 2.9 people. That means full racks and frequent cycles. We repair Bosch dishwashers across Poway, including Green Valley, The Grove, Garden Road and Old Poway.
Poway treats its own water at the Lester J. Berglund plant, drawing up to 99.5 percent imported raw water through the San Diego County Water Authority, with the rest from Lake Poway. The city's 2024 water quality report lists a distribution system average of 236 mg/L as calcium carbonate, about 13.8 grains per gallon. Lake Poway water measured 242 mg/L. An undated city FAQ gives an average of 15.8 gpg. Every one of those numbers is very hard on the USGS scale. Bosch dishwashers do not have an exposed heating coil in the tub. Instead, a flow-through heater sits inside the circulation pump housing, and water must be moving for it to heat. Scale forms there first. As it thickens, heating slows, cycles run longer, and the machine can post E12 for limescale. Poway's big households make it worse, because a family of four or five may run a load every night. Most Poway homes were built between 1970 and 1999. In those kitchens a Bosch is often a replacement for an older unit, fitted to plumbing, air gaps and disposal connections from the original build, which can affect how well it drains.
Symptom: Glasses and dark plates come out spotted or dull. Cause: Very hard water with the hardness setting too low, no rinse aid, or a softener-equipped model that has run out of salt. Fix: Set hardness to match Poway's figure, refill and adjust rinse aid, add salt where the model uses it, and descale.
Symptom: Dirty water pools at the bottom, and the cycle stops with E22. Cause: A filter packed with food from full family loads, sometimes with scale hardening the mesh. Fix: Twist out the filter, rinse it under running water with mild soap and a soft brush, and reseat it firmly.
Symptom: Cycles stretch well past their usual length and dishes are warm at best. Cause: Limescale coating the flow-through heater in the heat pump, which slows every heating phase of the cycle. Fix: Descale on the hottest cycle. If heating does not recover, we test the heater and replace the heat pump.
Symptom: Water left after the cycle and a gurgle at the sink. Cause: A clogged air gap, a drain hose kinked behind the cabinet, or a blocked disposal inlet. Fix: We clear the air gap and disposal inlet, reroute or replace the hose, and confirm a clean drain.
With water this hard and loads this frequent, prevention is mostly about scale. Tell the dishwasher how hard the water is through its settings menu, and use rinse aid every time. Descale more often than an occasional user would. Clean the filter on a schedule rather than waiting for a code. If your model uses dishwasher salt, keep the reservoir filled; if it does not, the hardness setting and rinse aid do the work. Holiday weeks with two loads a day are a good time to check everything.
Poway's mostly single-family homes make access easy, with driveway parking at nearly every stop. Properties on private roads or with gates should share directions and codes. Clear the cabinet under the sink so we can reach the supply valve, drain hose and disposal. Have the model number, the code on the display and a note of when the problem began. Photos of spotted glassware help us see how hard-water symptoms are showing up. If the machine is leaking, close the supply valve under the sink and leave the dishwasher off until we arrive.
A scaled heater caught early often recovers after descaling, which costs little. Filters, drain pumps, hoses and door parts are also worth fixing. If the heat pump has failed from years of scale on a machine older than about 8 to 10 years, compare the repair to a new unit, particularly on a 100 or 300 series. We give you both options after the $99 diagnostic, which is credited if we do the repair.

No. A symptom narrows the search, but the diagnostic visit on the exact model confirms the actual fault before any repair is authorized.
Water reached the base pan and lifted the flood-protection float. Tilting the machine drains the pan and may clear the code - but the leak that caused it still exists and needs to be found.
The disposal's knockout plug is the classic cause - the drain line has nowhere to go. It is a five-minute fix once identified.
Bosch uses condensation drying: rinse aid is mandatory for good results. If rinse aid is dosed and dishes stay wet, the heating system gets tested - that is the E09 territory.
On the top or side edge of the inner door panel - the plate carries the E-Nr, FD date code and serial. Photograph all of it; Bosch parts need the E-Nr and FD together.
All of them - 100 through Benchmark, current and legacy. The hydraulic platform is consistent, and parts order by E-Nr.
The 2024 annual water quality report shows a distribution average of 236 mg/L, about 13.8 gpg. An undated city FAQ says 15.8 gpg. Both land in the very hard range. Use your manual's table; if the two numbers fall in different settings, choosing the higher one is the safer bet against scale.
Only if your model has a built-in water softener, which many US Bosch models do not. Look for a salt reservoir cap on the tub floor and check your manual. If there is no reservoir, rely on the hardness setting, rinse aid and regular descaling instead.
It helps. Softened water reduces scale on the heater and spotting, and testing by the Water Quality Research Foundation found softened water allowed up to about 70 percent less dish detergent. A softener is a whole-house decision, though, so weigh it against your other fixtures.
Dishwashers are commonly cited at 10 to 13 years. Hard water shortens that when scale is ignored, mostly by wearing out the heat pump. A correct hardness setting, rinse aid and regular descaling help a Bosch reach the full span.
