Bosch ranges
Bosch's 800 Series ranges come in gas, dual-fuel and induction - and their code story splits cleanly. The induction models speak the fully documented cooktop dialect: F-codes for overheating, U400 and E9000 for voltage. For everything else, Bosch's official line is 'an electronics fault has occurred' - which we treat as an instruction to measure, not to guess.
A photo of the model label and the complete installation helps the team understand the configuration before the visit.

HDS-family machines - gas burners over an electric oven, including the 18,000 BTU double-ring burner.
HII-family slide-ins - the documented induction code dialect on top, electric oven below.
Front-control slide-ins and industrial-style freestanding models share platforms.
Start with the symptom
A symptom narrows the inspection; it does not identify the failed component. The $99 visit confirms the actual fault on the exact model before any repair is authorized.
Igniter, spark module and valve on gas tops - moisture checked before parts.
The documented overheat family - and under-counter ventilation.
The dual-fuel split: oven-side element, igniter or control per fuel type.
Fan, element and sensor health - measured against a reference.
Power path and the E305-style communication check.
Thermal cutout and latch - the classic high-heat casualty, routinely repaired.
Series and model numbers
The prefix names the fuel, the fuel names the diagnosis - and on induction models the cooktop half arrives with a fully documented code table.
Model label
The rating plate with E-Nr, FD date code and serial is on the oven frame behind the door, or behind the storage drawer - open both to find it, and photograph it whole. Photograph the complete label — the full model and serial identify parts and production year better than the series name alone.
Indicators and alerts
For any message not shown, use the manual for the exact model rather than a generic list.
Bosch diagnostics
Induction-top codes and the voltage family are officially documented by Bosch for slide-in ranges; E305 carries double independent confirmation. Oven-side codes with conflicting public decodes - E115 aside on wall ovens, E118 among them - are excluded here and read against factory data on-site.
Preventive service and owner care
Alpha Pro provides preventive and general maintenance for Bosch ranges. The appliance design determines which procedures are accessible and appropriate.
Owner maintenance
Professional maintenance
A professional visit can evaluate accessible systems without assuming every procedure applies to every model.
Diagnosis before parts
Call or book with the model label, exact behavior, any displayed codes, photos, and access notes.
The technician examines the reported condition in context: ignition, flame quality, temperatures, elements, controls, door fit, and relevant components.
Findings and proposed work are explained before repair proceeds. The residential diagnostic is credited toward an approved repair.
Service area and operating context
Alpha Pro serves ranges across La Jolla - the Village, La Jolla Shores, Bird Rock, Muirlands and the Torrey Pines corridor, plus UC San Diego campus housing. Coastal air, condo logistics and hard county water all shape how ranges age here.
Professional-style ranges are a La Jolla signature: Wolf, Thermador and Viking anchor kitchens from Bird Rock to the estates above Torrey Pines. Near the water, salt air corrodes burner heads and igniters faster than inland, and outdoor kitchens age faster still. Burner, ignition and calibration work here follows each maker's service logic - and the coastal environment is part of the diagnosis.
Wolf, Thermador and Viking ranges are unusually common in La Jolla. Igniter, calibration and burner work follows each maker's service logic.
Salt air is hard on burner heads, igniters and exposed metal - corrosion findings are documented so you can plan prevention.
Equipment near open air weathers faster; access and installation are part of the evaluation.
During maintenance, accessible metal surfaces can be inspected for corrosion, moisture exposure, or conditions that may warrant attention. Location alone does not establish the cause of a failure.
A better repair decision
There is no honest universal age or price threshold. Start with the exact model and a diagnosis.
Local notes · La Jolla
La Jolla is an oceanfront, cliff-top community on a coastal headland. For a range, that means moist, salt-carrying air that settles on stainless steel, collects around gas igniters and finds its way to control connections. From Bird Rock and Windansea to the towers along Coast Boulevard, the same Bosch range ages differently than it would a few miles inland. We repair Bosch gas, induction and dual-fuel ranges throughout La Jolla and plan each visit around the neighborhood's parking and building rules.
From May through August, the May Gray and June Gloom marine layer often keeps La Jolla damp into the afternoon, and coastal relative humidity averages roughly 63 to 75 percent. That moisture is the concern for a Bosch range. On gas and dual-fuel models, salt film slowly corrodes the igniter and burner hardware, and a weakened igniter shows up as a long preheat. Stainless doors and handles pick up the same film. Bosch also asks owners to keep cooktop controls dry, which takes a bit more effort on a foggy morning in an open oceanfront kitchen. Then, on the roughly ten Santa Ana days a year, humidity can drop to single digits and the air turns hot. The September 2024 heat wave set a record SDG&E demand of 5,032 megawatts and left about 13,000 customers without power. Induction electronics are fan-cooled and shut down when they overheat, and outages and power sags are hard on control boards. Housing adds a twist: pre-1972 high-rises like 939 Coast Boulevard sit beside century-old cottages and Mount Soledad hillside homes.
Symptom: Clicking without a flame on top, or a gas oven that takes far too long to preheat. Cause: Corrosion and residue on the igniter or burner ports. In ovens, a weak igniter or a valve problem is typical. Fix: Clean the ports and let them dry. We test igniter current and replace the igniter or valve. Leave gas valves to a technician.
Symptom: The range shows a connection or voltage code after an outage or will not start. Cause: Supply out of range, or corrosion or looseness at the terminal block connections. Fix: We check supply voltage and the terminal block wiring against the circuit diagram.
Symptom: Every zone cuts out on a hot, dry afternoon. Cause: Induction electronics overheated. Blocked airflow or a failing cooling fan makes it more likely. Fix: Allow cooling. If it repeats, we test the fan and power module.
Symptom: Keys ignore presses or register on their own, often on damp mornings. Cause: Moisture or residue on the glass over the controls, or a failing control board. Fix: Dry and clean the control area first and wait a few minutes. Persistent faults on a dry panel need a control board diagnosis.
The fight on the coast is against salt film and standing moisture. Neither causes a failure overnight, but both add up. Burner parts should go back on only when completely dry. Stainless benefits from a regular wipe with a damp cloth followed by a dry one. If you are away for weeks at a time, close the gas supply to the range only if you know how, and let a technician check ignition before a big dinner when you return.
La Jolla Village street parking is time-limited from 30 minutes to three hours and actively enforced, and La Jolla Shores streets fill quickly in summer. If you have a driveway spot or guest space, let us know. In high-rise buildings, tell us about elevator reservations, loading-zone limits and any building rule for contractors. Slide-in ranges often need to come forward for terminal block or gas work, so clear the area in front. Have the model and serial number handy, plus a photo of any code.
Corrosion-driven repairs, such as igniters, burner parts and connection fixes, are usually well worth doing on a Bosch range. Replacement is worth discussing when an older induction model needs its power electronics and a new glass top, or when corrosion has spread through the chassis. The $99 diagnostic is credited toward any repair we complete, so you get a clear answer before spending more.

Clear preparation makes a service request easier to evaluate.
Yes - same-day windows are offered across San Diego County subject to the day's schedule. Availability is confirmed for the exact address when you book.
We take requests across La Jolla - ZIP 92037, plus UC San Diego campus housing (92092, 92093). Share gate codes, elevators, parking or HOA rules when booking so the technician can plan the visit.
Yes. It is non-refundable and credited toward the total repair cost if you proceed. There are no residential exceptions.
A 90-day labor warranty and a 1-year parts warranty, both starting on the date the repair is completed.
No. A symptom narrows the search, but the diagnostic visit on the exact model confirms the actual fault before any repair is authorized.
The supply voltage is outside the normal operating range - officially an installation or supply issue. The connection gets measured and corrected; no range part is replaced for a wiring fault.
On gas 800 Series ranges it is a communication fault between the touch-control module and the main boards. Connections and boards are tested in order on-site.
The burners themselves do not - they are diagnosed directly: igniters, spark module, valves. The oven and display side reports the E-codes.
On the oven frame behind the door or behind the storage drawer - photograph the E-Nr and FD date code together; Bosch parts require both.
Yes - gas, dual-fuel and induction, each with its own diagnostic path and the right instruments for it.
Damp, salty air leaves residue in burner ports and slowly corrodes igniters. On top burners that shows up as extra clicking. In gas ovens, a weakened igniter can stretch preheat time. Clean and dry the burners first, then book a test if the delay continues.
Voltage and connection codes, like U400 or E9011 on Bosch slide-ins, can appear after outages or sags. Turn off the breaker for a minute and restore power. If the code comes back, the supply or terminal block connections need a check. Do not open the wiring cover yourself.
Yes. Let us know about elevator bookings, loading-zone limits and any contractor rules when you schedule. We plan our arrival around them so the appointment runs smoothly, and we bring what we need to diagnose the range in place. A photo of the model label sent ahead helps us bring the right parts.
There is no need to stop, but use lower settings and run the hood. Bosch induction zones and electronics shut down when they overheat, which is a protection feature. If shutdowns happen on mild days too, the cooling fan may be failing and should be tested.
