Frigidaire dishwashers
Frigidaire dishwashers speak in i-codes - i10 through i40 plus PF - and unlike many brands, Frigidaire documents the important ones on its own owner portal. That turns most calls into a known path: fill, drain, leak or sump, confirmed on the machine instead of argued from a blog.
A photo of the model label and the complete installation helps the team understand the configuration before the visit.

Start with the symptom
A symptom narrows the inspection; it does not identify the failed component. The $99 visit confirms the actual fault on the exact model before any repair is authorized.
The i20 path: trap, filter, hose height, pump - in the official order.
Rinse aid, vent and heater - EvenDry models add a fan path.
San Diego hard water versus detergent dosing - solvable without parts.
Latch and strike alignment - common after counter or panel work.
The i10 family: tap, valve, float - tested in minutes.
Photograph the code first - the display is the best witness.
Series and model numbers
Tubs and trim change by tier; the i-code dialect and the hydraulic layout stay recognizably Frigidaire across all of them.
Model label
The serial plate is on the left side of the door jamb or the tub rim - open the door and look along the frame edge. Photograph it before the visit. Photograph the complete label — the full model and serial identify parts and production year better than the series name alone.
Indicators and alerts
For any message not shown, use the manual for the exact model rather than a generic list.
Frigidaire diagnostics
i20, i40 and PF are documented on Frigidaire's official owner portal; i10 and i30 are confirmed consistently across multiple independent service sources. Codes beyond this set circulate online with conflicting meanings and are excluded.
Preventive service and owner care
Alpha Pro provides preventive and general maintenance for Frigidaire dishwashers. The appliance design determines which procedures are accessible and appropriate.
Owner maintenance
Professional maintenance
A professional visit can evaluate accessible systems without assuming every procedure applies to every model.
Diagnosis before parts
Call or book with the model label, exact behavior, any displayed codes, photos, and access notes.
The technician examines the reported condition in context: fill, wash, drain, drying, controls, leaks, and relevant components.
Findings and proposed work are explained before repair proceeds. The residential diagnostic is credited toward an approved repair.
Service area and operating context
Poway sits in the hills off I-15 - ranch properties of Old Poway, gated Green Valley, newer streets off Espola Road. Garage refrigerators fight summer heat, canyon dust clogs condensers, and hard water leaves scale in ice makers and washer valves.
Inland heat and hard water set the pattern here: garage refrigerators work hardest in summer, dust clogs condensers, and scale builds in ice makers, dishwashers and washer valves.
During maintenance, accessible metal surfaces can be inspected for corrosion, moisture exposure, or conditions that may warrant attention. Location alone does not establish the cause of a failure.
A better repair decision
There is no honest universal age or price threshold. Start with the exact model and a diagnosis.
Local notes · Poway
Most Poway homes went up between 1970 and 1999, and many kitchens have been remodeled since. When a new Frigidaire dishwasher goes into an older cabinet, the plumbing behind it is where trouble starts: a drain hose without a proper high loop, a disposer connection left plugged, a supply line from another era. Combine that with water the city itself says causes white spots on dishes, and you have the two themes behind most of our calls here. Below is how each plays out.
The City of Poway treats its own water at the Berglund plant, most of it imported through the County Water Authority with a small share from Lake Poway. The 2024 report puts distribution-system hardness at 236 mg/L, about 13.8 grains per gallon, and the city's own FAQ notes that calcium leaves white spots on dishes and builds up on fixtures. Inside a Frigidaire, that same calcium settles on the heating element, spray arm jets and inlet valve screen. The plumbing side is just as important. About 69 percent of Poway's homes date from 1970 to 1999, and remodels often reuse old drain and supply connections. Frigidaire calls for the drain hose to loop at least 32 inches high. Without that loop, dirty sink water can siphon back into the tub, and a kinked or sagging hose causes i20 drain faults. Families are also larger than average here, near 2.9 people per home, so the machine runs often and the filter collects more food debris between cleanings.
Symptom: Standing water after the cycle, a sour smell, i20 on the display. Cause: Drain hose missing its high loop or kinked behind the unit, a disposer inlet still plugged after installation, or a clogged glass trap. Fix: We re-route and secure the hose, clear the disposer inlet, clean the trap and sump, and test the drain pump.
Symptom: Chalky spots on glasses and cutlery, film on the tub walls. Cause: Very hard water drying on the dishes, often with the rinse aid dispenser empty or set too low. Fix: We clean the spray arms and inlet screen, set rinse aid higher, and descale the tub and element area.
Symptom: The machine pauses early with i10 or runs with very little water. Cause: An aging supply valve under the sink, scale in the inlet valve screen, or a failed pressure sensor. Fix: We check supply flow, replace the valve or sensor as needed, and recommend a new shutoff if the old one is failing.
Symptom: Silence or a hum where the wash should be; i50 appears. Cause: A worn wash motor in a busy family kitchen, or debris jamming the pump. Fix: We clear debris, test the motor windings and replace the motor if it has failed. We also check the pump housing for chipped glass or bone fragments.
Rinse aid is the single best fix for the white spots the city warns about. Keep the dispenser full and bump the setting up if spots persist. Clean the glass trap often in a large household. Look behind the kick plate or under the sink once in a while to confirm the drain hose still has its high loop, especially after any cabinet or disposer work. Descaling a few times a year keeps the element and jets clear, and it protects the inlet valve screen too.
Poway is mostly single-family homes, many on larger lots, including rural and horse properties in areas like Old Coach Estates and along the trail network. If your driveway is long or gated, or the house is hard to spot from the road, give us directions when you book. Have the model and serial number from the tub edge, the i-code if shown, and note any recent plumbing or disposer work. Clear the sink cabinet. We diagnose, explain, and quote before repairs. The $99 diagnostic fee is credited toward the repair.
Most i20, i10 and i50 repairs on a Frigidaire involve a hose, valve, sensor or pump, and those are usually sensible. When the problem is only a missing drain loop, the fix is labor, not parts. An older unit with a failing control board, or a tub that is rusting through, is a different story, and replacement is usually better value. We will show you what failed before you decide.

No. A symptom narrows the search, but the diagnostic visit on the exact model confirms the actual fault before any repair is authorized.
Officially: the unit did not drain properly. Check the glass trap and filter for soils and the drain hose for kinks; a persisting i20 is a pump and drain-path visit.
Leak protection - water reached the base pan. The code holds until the actual leak is found and dried, which is the point of the feature.
PF just records a power interruption. Restart the cycle; repeated PF on stable power merits a look at the junction connection.
On the left side of the door jamb or tub rim - open the door and photograph the plate.
Yes - the FFBD park is enormous in San Diego and parts remain available; the full model from the jamb plate drives the order.
Poway's water averages 236 mg/L, and the city notes that calcium causes white spots on dishes. The minerals dry on the glass. Keep the rinse aid dispenser full, raise its setting, and descale the machine every couple of months. If spots remain after that, the spray arms may be partly clogged and need cleaning.
New disposers ship with a knockout plug in the dishwasher inlet. If it was not removed, the dishwasher cannot drain and will often show i20. Unplug the disposer before checking. If the plug is out and it still will not drain, call us.
Frigidaire specifies that the drain hose loop up to at least 32 inches from the floor. That high point keeps sink water from siphoning back into the dishwasher. Older kitchens are sometimes remodeled without it, which causes odors and drain problems.
Yes. We cover all of Poway, including horse properties and homes on longer private drives. Just give us access details and a good landmark when you book so the technician finds you on the first try. Tell us about dogs or livestock on the property as well.
