Kenmore dryers
Kenmore dryers split cleanly by prefix: 110. means Whirlpool built it and it speaks F-codes - F01 for the control board, F70 for lost communication. 796. means LG built it and it speaks LG - including the d80, d90 and d95 duct-blockage codes that measure how choked your vent actually is. The decode comes first; the diagnosis follows the dialect.
A photo of the model label and the complete installation helps the team understand the configuration before the visit.
The classic Kenmore laundry prefix - including the Elite HE3/HE4/HE5 dryers.
Later Kenmore Elite dryers on LG platforms - steam cycles and duct-sensing.
The upper tier across both makers - the prefix, not the badge, decides the parts.
Both fuels across both platforms - the model's digits encode which.
Start with the symptom
A symptom narrows the inspection; it does not identify the failed component. The $99 visit confirms the actual fault on the exact model before any repair is authorized.
Vent run, moisture sensors and heat source - the vented trio, in order.
Gas coils or heater element and thermostats - split by fuel and platform.
Door switch, thermal fuse and belt switch - the documented no-start path.
Rollers, idler and glides - mechanical, audible and fixable.
Thermistor and airflow territory - the tE1/d80 axis.
Water valve and nozzle on LG-built steam models.
Series and model numbers
Same badge, two languages: the prefix tells the visit which code table, which parts book and which known failures apply.
Model label
The model and serial label is inside the door opening on the front panel - visible with the door open; some models repeat it on the rear panel. Photograph the complete label — the full model and serial identify parts and production year better than the series name alone.
Indicators and alerts
For any message not shown, use the manual for the exact model rather than a generic list.
Kenmore diagnostics
F01 and F70 meanings are consistent across Sears parts literature and Whirlpool-platform documentation; d80/d90/d95 are documented LG-platform airflow codes. Kenmore code tables that ignore the prefix are guesswork by construction - and excluded.
Preventive service and owner care
Alpha Pro provides preventive and general maintenance for Kenmore dryers. The appliance design determines which procedures are accessible and appropriate.
Owner maintenance
Professional maintenance
A professional visit can evaluate accessible systems without assuming every procedure applies to every model.
Diagnosis before parts
Call or book with the model label, exact behavior, any displayed codes, photos, and access notes.
The technician examines the reported condition in context: airflow, heat, cycle behavior, drum condition, controls, and relevant components.
Findings and proposed work are explained before repair proceeds. The residential diagnostic is credited toward an approved repair.
Service area and operating context
From established west-side streets to Otay Ranch's new communities, Chula Vista runs every appliance generation - big families, big laundry loads and builder suites hitting their first repairs.
South Bay and East County bring summer heat, hard water and hard-working family appliances - practical repairs with strong parts availability are the local priority.
During maintenance, accessible metal surfaces can be inspected for corrosion, moisture exposure, or conditions that may warrant attention. Location alone does not establish the cause of a failure.
A better repair decision
There is no honest universal age or price threshold. Start with the exact model and a diagnosis.
Local notes · Chula Vista
Chula Vista homes hold about 3.1 people on average, and that means laundry every day. Many of the tract and master-planned houses in Eastlake, Otay Ranch and Rancho del Rey put the washer and dryer in an attached garage, and some of those dryers run on natural gas. A Kenmore gas dryer that tumbles cold, or an electronic model flashing a code, stops a household fast. We sort out which platform you own, check the fuel and power side safely, and fix the part that actually failed.
Chula Vista splits into two housing eras. West of Hilltop Drive and north of L Street lies the original city, where older homes often have laundry hookups added wherever they fit. East of I-805, Eastlake started in 1986, Rancho del Rey in 1989 and Otay Ranch in 1999, and roughly a third of the city's homes were built in 2000 or later. Those newer houses often have a garage laundry area with a gas stub and a short vent to an outside wall. The climate is milder than El Cajon, with an August mean high near 77°F, but September averages a monthly peak around 92°F and the record is 103°F. A dryer in a closed garage on those days starts warm and runs close to its high-limit thermostat. Bayside neighborhoods get humid, salty air that works on vent hoods. The biggest factor, though, is volume: large households run back-to-back loads, and the dryer rarely gets a rest. That pace is when a weak gas valve coil or a tired sensor shows itself.
Symptom: Drum turns, you may see the igniter glow orange through the burner window, then it goes dark and the air stays cool. Cause: Weak gas valve coils, the secondary and booster coils, are a typical failure point on Whirlpool-built 110 gas dryers. They stop opening the valve once warm. Fix: We replace the coil set and verify the flame sensor so the burner lights and cycles normally through a full load.
Symptom: No glow, no heat, drum turns normally. Cause: An open thermal fuse from a restricted vent, a failed igniter, or a flame sensor stuck open. Garage vents clogged with lint are a frequent trigger. Fix: We test each part in the circuit, clear the vent and replace what failed. No one should open the gas valve or burner assembly without training.
Symptom: A tE code on the display, cycles ending early or clothes staying damp. Cause: The thermistor or its wiring is bad. A healthy one reads about 10,000 ohms at room temperature. Fix: We measure the sensor and harness, then replace the thermistor and confirm normal cycle times.
Symptom: PF after a power flicker, or E3 and a dryer that won't start. Cause: PF records a power interruption. E3 indicates a mismatch between the main control and the user interface. Fix: We check outlet power and connections, reset the control and replace a board only after confirming the fault.
Big families feel dryer problems first, so a few habits pay off. Clean the lint screen after every load. Keep the garage floor around the dryer clear so the cabinet breathes and nothing blocks the burner area. Pet hair gets past the screen and packs the vent; homes with dogs should clean it more often. If you ever smell gas, leave the house and call SDG&E before calling us.
Many eastern Chula Vista neighborhoods are gated or HOA-managed, so share the gate code or call-box name. Garage laundry makes access easy; clear a few feet in front of the dryer and make sure the gas shutoff is reachable. Have the model number from the door frame or back panel ready, and note whether the dryer is gas or electric, any code shown and whether the igniter glows. Renters should confirm the landlord has approved the repair.
Gas valve coils, igniters, thermal fuses and thermistors are among the most affordable dryer repairs, and they return a Kenmore to full heat. That is why repair usually wins. The exceptions are older machines where a drum bearing and a control board fail at the same time, or where the cabinet has rusted through. A dryer from a 2000s east-side build may be near that line. Our $99 diagnostic is credited toward the repair.

Yes. It is non-refundable and credited toward the total repair cost if you proceed. There are no residential exceptions.
A 90-day labor warranty and a 1-year parts warranty, both starting on the date the repair is completed.
No. A symptom narrows the search, but the diagnostic visit on the exact model confirms the actual fault before any repair is authorized.
On 110.-prefix machines: the main control board faulted. Ten minutes unplugged is the documented reset; a returning F01 means the board needs replacement.
On 796.-prefix (LG-built) machines: the exhaust duct is measured about 80 percent blocked. It is a real fire-safety warning - the vent run gets cleared, not ignored.
The prefix says: 110. is Whirlpool, 796. is LG. That decode picks the code table and the parts book before the visit starts.
Inside the door opening on the front panel - photograph every digit including the prefix.
Yes - the decode unlocks the real maker's parts system, and both Whirlpool and LG platforms remain well stocked.
That pattern points to weak gas valve coils. They open the valve when cold, then fail as they warm up, so the burner lights briefly and stops. It is a typical repair on Whirlpool-built Kenmore gas dryers. Don't take the valve apart yourself; a technician should replace the coils and check the flame sensor.
Leave the house right away, don't operate switches, and call SDG&E from outside. After the utility has made the area safe, we can inspect the dryer, valve and connector. Keep children and pets out, and leave the door open behind you if it is safe to do so. Never try to tighten a gas fitting or relight anything yourself.
In most cases it isn't practical. Gas and electric versions use different heat sources, a burner and valve versus a heating element, plus different wiring. If your garage has a gas stub and you want gas drying, it's usually a new-appliance decision, and the gas hookup itself should be done by a licensed installer.
Only on the hottest days. The west side stays mild most of the summer, but September can bring low-90s afternoons and higher peaks. A dryer in a closed garage then starts warmer and trips thermostats more easily if the vent is partly blocked.
