KitchenAid dryers
KitchenAid dryers left production when Whirlpool repositioned its laundry brands after the 2006 Maytag purchase - but the KEYE and KGYE electric and gas machines, and the Superba line above them, are Whirlpool-built platforms whose parts and procedures never went away. No code tables, no boards to argue with: heat, airflow and drive, tested directly.
A photo of the model label and the complete installation helps the team understand the configuration before the visit.

The matching gas machines - igniter, coils and flame sensor instead of elements.

Production ended in the mid-2000s; the Whirlpool parts system still carries the platform.
Start with the symptom
A symptom narrows the inspection; it does not identify the failed component. The $99 visit confirms the actual fault on the exact model before any repair is authorized.
Breaker leg or element on electric; valve coils on gas - measured, not assumed.
Door switch, thermal fuse and start switch - the documented chain.
Airflow: lint path and the San Diego wall vent before any part.
Rollers, idler and belt - the platform's known wear kit.
Cycling thermostat and airflow - tested together.
Taken seriously: the visit checks the valve, connections and combustion path.
Series and model numbers
The third letter tells the fuel - E electric, G gas - and the Whirlpool platform underneath means every wear part still has a number.
Model label
The model and serial label is inside the door opening, on the front panel below the drum mouth - open the door and photograph the full label. It is the key to a discontinued brand's very-much-alive parts book. Photograph the complete label — the full model and serial identify parts and production year better than the series name alone.
Indicators and alerts
For any message not shown, use the manual for the exact model rather than a generic list.
KitchenAid diagnostics
No fault-code table exists for KitchenAid's dryer generations - they are electromechanical Whirlpool platforms, and the honest diagnosis order is power, thermal safeties, heat source, airflow, drive. All wear parts remain orderable through the Whirlpool system.
Preventive service and owner care
Alpha Pro provides preventive and general maintenance for KitchenAid dryers. The appliance design determines which procedures are accessible and appropriate.
Owner maintenance
Professional maintenance
A professional visit can evaluate accessible systems without assuming every procedure applies to every model.
Diagnosis before parts
Call or book with the model label, exact behavior, any displayed codes, photos, and access notes.
The technician examines the reported condition in context: airflow, heat, cycle behavior, drum condition, controls, and relevant components.
Findings and proposed work are explained before repair proceeds. The residential diagnostic is credited toward an approved repair.
Service area and operating context
From established west-side streets to Otay Ranch's new communities, Chula Vista runs every appliance generation - big families, big laundry loads and builder suites hitting their first repairs.
South Bay and East County bring summer heat, hard water and hard-working family appliances - practical repairs with strong parts availability are the local priority.
During maintenance, accessible metal surfaces can be inspected for corrosion, moisture exposure, or conditions that may warrant attention. Location alone does not establish the cause of a failure.
A better repair decision
There is no honest universal age or price threshold. Start with the exact model and a diagnosis.
Local notes · Chula Vista
Chula Vista households average a little over three people each, well above the county figure of 2.7. A dryer in Eastlake or Otay Ranch may run close to daily, cycling rollers, idler pulley, belt and heat source far more than it would in a smaller home. Many east-side houses date from the 2000s, and the dryers bought for them are old enough to need wear parts. We repair KitchenAid gas and electric dryers here, starting with the parts most likely to wear under heavy use.
Two facts drive most dryer calls in Chula Vista. Household size is the first. At about 3.1 to 3.25 persons per home, laundry here is a steady flow of school clothes, work uniforms, sports gear and bedding. Every load turns the drum on its support rollers, loads the idler pulley and flexes the belt, so those parts wear out on a schedule set by use, not age. Housing age is the second. About a third of Chula Vista's homes were built in 2000 or later, mostly in master-planned neighborhoods like Eastlake, Otay Ranch, Millenia and Rolling Hills Ranch. Dryers from that era have many years of heavy use behind them. Laundry in these tract homes often sits in the garage or near it. On the west side, near the bay, damp salty air works on exterior vent hoods, and every September brings hot, dry days, with a mean monthly maximum of about 92°F citywide. Both put extra pressure on a restricted vent.
Symptom: A high squeal as the drum spins, thumping on each rotation, or a motor that runs while the drum stays still. Cause: A worn idler pulley squeals. Flattened support rollers thump. A worn belt eventually breaks. All of them wear faster with daily loads. Fix: We replace the rollers, idler and belt together as a kit so the parts wear evenly, and clean the blower wheel while the cabinet is open.
Symptom: The igniter glows and then goes out with no flame, or a flame lights and then drops out, leaving loads damp. Cause: On Whirlpool-platform gas valves, a weak secondary coil is the classic cause of intermittent heat. A flame sensor stuck closed keeps the igniter glowing without gas. Fix: We ohm-test the igniter, valve coils and flame sensor, and replace the coil kit, igniter or sensor as needed.
Symptom: The cycle stops, heat quits, or the display shows F3E1. Cause: The exhaust thermistor circuit reads open or shorted, often after overheating caused by a restricted vent. Fix: We reset power at the breaker, test the thermistor and harness, and replace the thermistor. Then we check exhaust airflow.
Symptom: The drum turns but the air stays cold. Cause: Sears Home Services data on KitchenAid no-heat calls ranks the element first, then the thermal cut-off and the thermal fuse. Blown fuses point back to airflow. Fix: We replace the failed component and verify vent flow so it doesn't happen again.
In a house that runs several loads a week, lint builds fast. Clean the screen before or after every load. Several times a year, run your hand along the duct behind the dryer to check for crushing, especially where a garage dryer sits close to the wall. NFPA recommends cleaning the vent yearly, and Whirlpool recommends every one to two years or whenever drying slows. With a large family, the one-year interval is the safe choice.
Many Chula Vista laundry setups are in the garage or a small interior closet. Clear enough room for us to pull the dryer out, and leave the garage door or side gate accessible. In gated east-side communities, send the gate code. Tell us whether the dryer is gas or electric, and send the model and serial number from the label near the door opening, along with any code showing. Describe any noise as well. A squeal, a thump or a grind each point to a different part.
Dryers are commonly expected to last 10 to 13 years, so an original dryer from an early-2000s Eastlake build is past that mark. Age alone doesn't decide it, though. A roller kit, igniter or thermistor is an inexpensive repair that can return a sound machine to service. When the drum is rusted, or the motor and control both fail, replacement is the better call. The $99 diagnostic is credited toward any repair.

No. A symptom narrows the search, but the diagnostic visit on the exact model confirms the actual fault before any repair is authorized.
Yes - the machines are Whirlpool-built and the platform's belts, rollers, elements, coils and fuses remain in the parts system. The full model number from the door label is what makes ordering exact.
Often one leg of the 240V supply: a half-tripped double breaker keeps the motor alive and the element dead. It is the first check, before any part.
Production ended in the mid-2000s after Whirlpool's laundry-brand realignment. Service and parts did not end with it.
Inside the door opening on the front panel - open the door and photograph the label.
Frequently yes - the failures are inexpensive wear parts on a simple platform. The diagnostic visit gives you a real number to decide with, and the $99 credits toward the repair.
It's most often the idler pulley, which keeps tension on the belt. Its bearing wears and squeals, then gets louder over weeks. Running it too long can let the belt slip or break. We usually replace the idler, rollers and belt together, since they wear at a similar rate.
Intermittent heat usually comes from worn gas-valve coils rather than a gas leak, but have it checked soon. If you ever smell gas, stop using it, don't touch switches, leave the house and call SDG&E. We never recommend DIY work on gas valves.
F3E1 means an exhaust thermistor problem. Whirlpool suggests turning off the breaker for a minute, then trying again. If the code comes back, the thermistor or its wiring has likely failed, often because a restricted vent caused overheating. We replace the part and check the vent.
The garage isn't the problem, but the setup can be. Dryers pushed tight against the wall often crush the transition duct. Long runs to an exterior wall add resistance, and sun-heated air raises exhaust temperatures. Confirm that the duct is rigid metal and not kinked.
