LG refrigeration
LG refrigerators pair Linear and Smart Inverter compressors with one of the most explicit fault languages in the market: Er codes name the failed circuit outright. InstaView, Craft Ice and Door-in-Door add features - and their own service topics.
A photo of the model label and the complete installation helps the team understand the configuration before the visit.
Knock-twice glass panel French door - see inside without opening the door.
Dual ice makers producing slow-melt spheres on upper French-door models.
Outer-door compartment for grab-and-go items.
Counter-depth footprint with standard-depth capacity.
Start with the symptom
A symptom narrows the inspection; it does not identify the failed component. The $99 visit confirms the actual fault on the exact model before any repair is authorized.
Er rF territory - the fresh-food fan or its icing. Photograph any code before it clears.
Linear-compressor wear is a known conversation - diagnosis separates compressor, board and charge honestly.
Dual ice systems have separate fills and fans - the model number decides which assembly is involved.
Er dH before it shows: heater and sensor testing beats chipping ice.
Display and door harness diagnostics - a PC-board conversation, not a glass problem.
Compressor start behavior and fan bearings first; video with sound helps.
Series and model numbers
LG model numbers encode platform and ice system; the compressor generation matters for both parts and warranty.
Model label
Inside the fresh-food compartment, on the side wall of the liner: left side on newer models, right side on older ones. Photograph the complete label — the full model and serial identify parts and production year better than the series name alone.
Indicators and alerts
For any message not shown, use the manual for the exact model rather than a generic list.
LG error codes
Codes cross-checked against LG's official help library and independent repair references; LG-only codes without independent confirmation (Er IS, SS, FU) are deliberately excluded.
Preventive service and owner care
Alpha Pro provides preventive and general maintenance for LG refrigeration systems. The appliance design determines which procedures are accessible and appropriate.
Owner maintenance
Professional maintenance
A professional visit can evaluate accessible systems without assuming every procedure applies to every model.
Diagnosis before parts
Call or book with the model label, exact behavior, temperature information, photos, and access notes.
The technician examines the reported condition in context: operation, airflow, water, controls, doors, installation, and relevant components.
Findings and proposed work are explained before repair proceeds. The residential diagnostic is credited toward an approved repair.
Service area and operating context
Poway sits in the hills off I-15 - ranch properties of Old Poway, gated Green Valley, newer streets off Espola Road. Garage refrigerators fight summer heat, canyon dust clogs condensers, and hard water leaves scale in ice makers and washer valves.
Inland heat and hard water set the pattern here: garage refrigerators work hardest in summer, dust clogs condensers, and scale builds in ice makers, dishwashers and washer valves.
During maintenance, accessible metal surfaces can be inspected for corrosion, moisture exposure, or conditions that may warrant attention. Location alone does not establish the cause of a failure.
A better repair decision
There is no honest universal age or price threshold. Start with the exact model and a diagnosis.
Local notes · Poway
In Poway, the condenser coil is where most LG refrigerator trouble starts. Trail and arena dust, hay chaff, dog hair and Santa Ana grit all end up drawn across that coil by the condenser fan. Once it's matted, the refrigerator can't shed heat, the compressor runs longer, and warm-fridge symptoms appear, usually on the hottest days of summer. Garages and large family homes add second refrigerators that work even harder. We clean up the cause, then repair whatever the heat and dust have already damaged.
An LG refrigerator cools by pumping heat from the cabinet into the condenser, where a small fan pushes room air across the coil. That fan pulls in whatever floats near the floor. Poway has more of it than most places: more than 78 miles of city trails where horses have priority, equestrian properties, barns and plenty of shedding pets. Santa Ana winds, strongest inland between September and April, drive dry dust into homes, and wildfire smoke has reached the city before; much of Poway was evacuated during both the 2003 Cedar Fire and the 2007 Witch Creek Fire. Fine ash and dust form a felt on the coil. Heat makes that felt costly. The hot season runs from about July to late September, with August highs averaging 84°F. Many homes here are large, single-family houses from the 1970s through the 1990s with attached garages, a natural place for a second refrigerator. Standard models aren't intended for garages, and garage-ready ones are rated to about 110°F. Poway's own water averaged 236 mg/L in 2024, very hard, so ice makers and dispensers also collect scale.
Symptom: Temperatures creep up every afternoon in summer and recover overnight; the unit runs almost nonstop. Cause: A condenser coil packed with dust, hair or ash, or a condenser fan slowed by debris. Fix: We clean the coil and fan thoroughly, test fan speed and check the compressor relay and inverter board for heat stress.
Symptom: Both sections warm; codes 22 or 33, or CH / CL, on models that show them. Cause: Long hours of high-load running can expose a weak relay or inverter board, or a failing linear compressor. Fix: We confirm the fault before any sealed-system work, which is done by EPA-certified technicians.
Symptom: The garage fridge shows FF, frost builds up, or the freezer thaws. Cause: Extreme garage temperatures push the defrost and fan systems outside their design range, or a fan motor fails. Fix: We defrost, test the fan, heater and sensors, and discuss whether the location is right for the model.
Symptom: Small or few cubes, slow water, maybe a gF code. Cause: Scale from very hard water in the inlet valve or tubing, or an overdue filter. Fix: We replace the filter and test the valve and flow sensor, replacing whichever is restricted.
Coil cleaning is the single most valuable habit here. Pull the lower grille and vacuum the condenser and fan area on a regular schedule, and add an extra cleaning after wind events or nearby fires. Keep pet beds and hay storage away from the fridge. For a garage unit, open the garage door or add ventilation on the hottest afternoons if you can. Wear a mask when cleaning a heavily loaded coil, and unplug the refrigerator first.
Let us know about gates, long driveways, loose dogs and where to park, especially on horse properties. Tell us whether the unit is in the kitchen, garage or a barn or outbuilding, and clear a path so it can be pulled out. Have the model and serial number, any code and a note of when the problem started. Mention recent heat, wind or smoke, since those point us toward the condenser and fans first. For barn units, make sure there's a working outlet and light nearby.
Coil cleaning, fans, relays, sensors and ice maker valves are modest repairs. If heat has already worn out a linear compressor, check whether LG's compressor parts coverage applies, then weigh labor against the unit's age and how clean its environment can be kept. For a garage refrigerator, a garage-ready replacement can be the smarter long-term choice. The $99 diagnostic is credited toward the repair.

Yes - same-day windows are offered across San Diego County subject to the day's schedule. Availability is confirmed for the exact address when you book.
We take requests across Poway (ZIP 92064, 92074). Share gate codes, parking or building access when booking so the technician can plan the visit.
Yes. It is non-refundable and credited toward the total repair cost if you proceed. There are no residential exceptions.
A 90-day labor warranty and a 1-year parts warranty, both starting on the date the repair is completed.
No. A symptom narrows the search, but the diagnostic visit on the exact model confirms the actual fault before any repair is authorized.
The freezer evaporator fan gave no feedback - usually iced up or failed. A full defrost may quiet it; a returning FF means the fan motor or the defrost system behind the icing needs repair.
That is demo mode: cooling is off on purpose while lights work. Hold Refrigerator + Ice Plus about five seconds (model-dependent) to exit.
Coverage depends on model and purchase date. Bring the full model and serial label - the diagnostic visit sorts warranty path versus paid repair honestly.
Inside the fresh-food compartment on the liner side wall - left on newer models, right on older ones. Photograph the whole label.
High-side and low-side sealed-system codes - refrigerant-circuit faults that require EPA-certified service, not a DIY topic.
The usual guideline is every 6 to 12 months, but homes with shedding pets, horses or dusty lots should aim for every 3 months. Clean again after Santa Ana wind events and smoke. A clean coil is the best protection for the compressor.
Smoke itself won't break it, but fine ash settles on the condenser coil and fan and reduces cooling efficiency. After a smoke event, unplug the fridge, vacuum the coil gently and restore power. If cooling doesn't recover, call for a check.
Only with care. Standard refrigerators aren't designed for unconditioned spaces, and barns add heavy dust. If you use one there, keep the coil clean, give it airflow, and use a temperature alarm so you know if it can't keep up.
Afternoon heat raises the room temperature the condenser has to reject heat into. If the coil or fan is dirty, it can't keep up until evening cools things down. Cleaning usually helps; if it doesn't, we check the fans, relay and compressor.
