Maytag dryers
Maytag dryers - MED electric, MGD gas - trade on heavy-duty motors and 10-year limited drive parts warranties, with a small, well-documented code set: F01, F02, AF and PF cover most of what the display will ever tell you. The rest is airflow physics, and San Diego lint proves it daily.
A photo of the model label and the complete installation helps the team understand the configuration before the visit.
7.0 and 7.3 cu ft dryers with Extra Power boost and Wrinkle Prevent.
Steam-enhanced cycles and advanced moisture sensing.
The XL lint trap system built for pet hair - paired with the Pet Pro washer.
Earlier platforms still drying across the county, serviced by their own code sets.
Start with the symptom
A symptom narrows the inspection; it does not identify the failed component. The $99 visit confirms the actual fault on the exact model before any repair is authorized.
Electric: element and thermal fuse. Gas: igniter, flame sensor, valve coils - split by the model prefix.
Airflow first - vent run, lint screen seating, moisture sensor after.
Door switch, thermal fuse and start circuit - in documented order.
Drum rollers, idler and belt - the mechanical trio, all stocked parts.
Overheating protection - usually the vent, occasionally the cycling thermostat.
The Pet Pro XL trap needs its own cleaning routine - shown during the visit.
Series and model numbers
Electric or gas is the first fork in every no-heat call - the third letter of the model number answers it before the visit.
Model label
The model and serial plate is inside the door opening on the front panel - open the door and look at the recess edge. Photograph the full plate. Photograph the complete label — the full model and serial identify parts and production year better than the series name alone.
Indicators and alerts
For any message not shown, use the manual for the exact model rather than a generic list.
Maytag diagnostics
F01, F02, AF and PF all carry official Maytag product-help documentation. Legacy Bravos-era dryers use their own two-character codes - identified from the model before any decoding.
Preventive service and owner care
Alpha Pro provides preventive and general maintenance for Maytag dryers. The appliance design determines which procedures are accessible and appropriate.
Owner maintenance
Professional maintenance
A professional visit can evaluate accessible systems without assuming every procedure applies to every model.
Diagnosis before parts
Call or book with the model label, exact behavior, any displayed codes, photos, and access notes.
The technician examines the reported condition in context: airflow, heat, cycle behavior, drum condition, controls, and relevant components.
Findings and proposed work are explained before repair proceeds. The residential diagnostic is credited toward an approved repair.
Service area and operating context
From established west-side streets to Otay Ranch's new communities, Chula Vista runs every appliance generation - big families, big laundry loads and builder suites hitting their first repairs.
South Bay and East County bring summer heat, hard water and hard-working family appliances - practical repairs with strong parts availability are the local priority.
During maintenance, accessible metal surfaces can be inspected for corrosion, moisture exposure, or conditions that may warrant attention. Location alone does not establish the cause of a failure.
A better repair decision
There is no honest universal age or price threshold. Start with the exact model and a diagnosis.
Local notes · Chula Vista
About a third of Chula Vista's homes were built in 2000 or later, much of it in Eastlake, Otay Ranch, Millenia and Rolling Hills Ranch. Plenty of those houses still have the laundry pair that came with them or one bought soon after. Those Maytag dryers are electronic: sensor-driven auto-dry cycles, an exhaust thermistor and a control that reports fault codes. As they age, the calls we get here often begin with a code on the display rather than a broken belt. With households averaging over three people, the dryer rarely gets a day off.
Tract and master-planned homes on the east side often put the washer and dryer in the attached garage. That location matters for a Maytag. An exhaust thermistor reads outlet air temperature and the control uses it to manage heat, so a garage that is already warm on a September afternoon leaves less headroom before the dryer runs hot. Chula Vista's NOAA station averages a monthly maximum of about 92°F in September and has recorded 103°F, even though August highs in the bayside west average under 77°F. A restricted vent on one of those days is the usual setup for a blown thermal fuse or an F3E1 code. Household size adds cycles: census figures put the city at about 3.1 people per home, so towels, school clothes and work uniforms keep the drum turning daily. On the western side, closer to the bay, humid salty air is harder on exterior vent hoods and exposed metal than the drier east. Many of the 2000s-era homes now carry dryers well out of warranty, in the range where the 10 to 13 year lifespan often cited for dryers comes into view.
Symptom: Cycle stops or runs without heat and the display shows F3E1. Cause: The exhaust thermistor circuit reads open or shorted. It often fails after the dryer overheated behind a clogged or crushed vent, and a loose harness connector can mimic it. Fix: We start with a power reset, then test the thermistor and its wiring, replace the failed part, and clear the vent that caused the heat.
Symptom: Auto cycles end with damp clothes or keep running; F3E2 after several loads. Cause: The control got no moisture-sensor data over consecutive loads. Coated sensor bars from dryer sheets, very small loads, an unlevel cabinet on a sloped garage slab, or a harness fault. Fix: We clean the bars, level the dryer on the slab, check the harness and replace the sensor or control only if testing points there.
Symptom: The igniter glows and the flame starts, then drops out and the load stays cool. Cause: On this Whirlpool-platform gas valve, a weak secondary coil lets the flame sensor open but fails to hold the main valve. If the igniter glows nonstop with no flame, the sensor may be stuck closed. Fix: We ohm-test the igniter, coils and flame sensor and replace the coil kit, igniter or sensor. If you smell gas, leave the house and call SDG&E first.
Symptom: The motor runs or hums but the drum stays still. Cause: A broken belt, often after worn rollers or a failing idler put extra drag on it during years of daily family loads. Fix: We install a new belt with rollers and idler as a set so the new belt is not chewed up by worn supports.
Late summer is the hardest stretch for a garage dryer here, so plan the vent cleaning before it arrives. A clear vent keeps outlet temperatures down, which protects the thermistor, thermal cut-off and fuse. Pets add a lot of lint: dog and cat hair fills the screen faster and can pack the cabinet if the screen tears. Check the leveling feet if the garage floor slopes toward the door.
East-side communities such as Eastlake and Otay Ranch are mostly HOA neighborhoods with driveway parking, so access is usually simple. In apartment complexes and townhome rows on the west side, tell us which building and where the laundry closet sits. Clear a path in the garage so the dryer can be pulled out from the wall. Have the model and serial numbers ready from the label inside the door frame, note any code that appears and how often, and send a photo of the display if you can.
Most code-driven repairs are sensors, thermistors and wiring, which are modest parts. The expensive one is the main control. On a newer dryer we replace it; on a unit already near the 10 to 13 year range with worn drum supports as well, replacement can make more sense. Gas ignition parts and belts are nearly always worth fixing. The $99 diagnostic is applied to the repair if you go ahead.

Yes. It is non-refundable and credited toward the total repair cost if you proceed. There are no residential exceptions.
A 90-day labor warranty and a 1-year parts warranty, both starting on the date the repair is completed.
No. A symptom narrows the search, but the diagnostic visit on the exact model confirms the actual fault before any repair is authorized.
Restricted airflow - officially. The vent run is the usual cause: lint screen, duct, outside flap. If the code survives a clean vent path, the blower and sensor get tested.
Electric models: heating element or thermal cutoff. Gas models: igniter, flame sensor or gas valve coils. The model prefix tells us which kit to bring.
Inside the door opening on the front panel - visible when the door is open.
Not by itself - it records a power interruption. Repeated PF codes with stable house power merit a look at the cord and connections.
Yes - including the XL lint trap system, which has its own cleaning and airflow service points.
Whirlpool's published guidance for F3E1, which applies to these Whirlpool-platform Maytags, starts with turning the breaker off for about a minute and restarting. If the code returns, the thermistor or its wiring needs testing. Because the fault often follows overheating, check that the vent hood outside is blowing air strongly while the dryer runs.
Do not try to troubleshoot it. Leave the home, avoid switches and flames, and call SDG&E or 9-1-1 from outside. Once the utility has cleared the home, we can inspect the dryer's gas valve, coils and igniter and the connection behind the unit.
Warm intake air plus a partly blocked vent pushes exhaust temperatures up, which trips the safety devices and ages the thermistor. A clean vent run and good clearance behind the dryer usually solve it. The heat alone rarely damages a dryer that vents well.
Yes. We service stacked and side-by-side Maytag dryers in apartments and townhomes as well as east-side houses. If a landlord or manager needs to approve the work, have their contact ready so we can confirm the repair on the spot.
