Wolf cooktops
Wolf cooktops divide neatly: gas CG tops with dual-stacked sealed burners and no fault codes at all, and CI induction tops whose E-codes each have an official Wolf support page - with the same published first step for every one of them: a 30-second breaker reset before anyone touches a part.
A photo of the model label and the complete installation helps the team understand the configuration before the visit.
30 and 36-inch sealed-burner tops with dual-stacked burners and true simmer.
24 to 36-inch contemporary and framed induction tops - the coded platform.
Radiant glass tops with their own officially documented E-code pages.
Steamer, fryer and grill modules from the integrated era - each its own small appliance.
Start with the symptom
A symptom narrows the inspection; it does not identify the failed component. The $99 visit confirms the actual fault on the exact model before any repair is authorized.
Cookware first - flat, magnetic, sized - then zone electronics.
Spark, cap seating and valve - after the moisture check.
Wolf's dual-stacked burners are built for true simmer - a lost simmer is a valve story.
Ventilation and electronics temperature - the E-code confirms it.
Stop using the top; glass is quoted honestly against replacement value.
Integrated-era modules are their own appliances with their own service points.
Series and model numbers
CG means flame diagnosis, CI and CE mean code-first diagnosis - and Wolf documents its cooktop codes on official per-code support pages, reset procedure included.
Model label
The rating plate is on the underside of the cooktop, reached from the cabinet below; gas tops carry it under the burner box. Photograph the full model and serial. Photograph the complete label — the full model and serial identify parts and production year better than the series name alone.
Indicators and alerts
For any message not shown, use the manual for the exact model rather than a generic list.
Wolf diagnostics
Wolf documents cooktop E-codes on official per-code support pages without publishing internal meanings - the honest reading happens against service data on-site. Gas tops have no codes, and invented decodes circulating online are excluded.
Preventive service and owner care
Alpha Pro provides preventive and general maintenance for Wolf cooktops. The appliance design determines which procedures are accessible and appropriate.
Owner maintenance
Professional maintenance
A professional visit can evaluate accessible systems without assuming every procedure applies to every model.
Diagnosis before parts
Call or book with the model label, exact behavior, any displayed codes, photos, and access notes.
The technician examines the reported condition in context: ignition or zone behavior, controls, surfaces, installation, and relevant components.
Findings and proposed work are explained before repair proceeds. The residential diagnostic is credited toward an approved repair.
Service areas and operating context
Alpha Pro serves Wolf cooktops in communities including La Jolla, Del Mar, Rancho Santa Fe, Carmel Valley, Poway, and the full San Diego County footprint below — ZIP by ZIP. Installation and room conditions vary from the coast to inland homes.
Recurring condensation, marine exposure, ventilation limits, and visible corrosion can be useful details during repair or maintenance.
Share room conditions, recent heat events, ventilation restrictions, and when the symptom appears.
During maintenance, accessible metal surfaces can be inspected for corrosion, moisture exposure, or conditions that may warrant attention. Location alone does not establish the cause of a failure.
A better repair decision
There is no honest universal age or price threshold. Start with the exact model and a diagnosis.
Local notes · San Diego County
Wolf builds three kinds of cooktop, and each fails in its own way. Gas CG models rely on spark electrodes, ignition switches and a spark module. CI induction tops, and the legacy CT series before them, depend on power boards, a cooling fan and capacitive touch controls. CE radiant electric tops share the touch controls but use heating elements under the glass. San Diego County adds a second variable: a cooktop by the ocean and one in an inland valley face very different air. We repair all three platforms county-wide.
The county runs from the Pacific over the mountains to the desert, and the conditions that matter to a cooktop change within a few miles. Along the coast, the May Gray and June Gloom marine layer keeps air cool and damp from May into August before burning off 5 to 15 miles inland. Salt and moisture there wear the small metal parts of gas ignition, and damp films on glass can confuse induction touch controls. Inland is the opposite. El Cajon averages an 88.6°F daily high in August against 77.3°F at Lindbergh Field, and Santa Ana winds from September through April bring dust and humidity in the single digits. That is where induction electronics run hottest and fan intakes clog fastest. Water hardness, which ranges from roughly 9 to 16 grains per gallon at the tap across local utilities, matters little to a cooktop, unlike a dishwasher or steam oven. The grid does matter: during the September 2024 heat wave, SDG&E set a record 5,032 MW peak and about 13,000 customers lost power, and sags and outages are hard on control boards. Our city pages go deeper on each setting, from salt air in La Jolla and rental kitchens in Oceanside to busy family cooktops in Chula Vista and dusty inland heat in Poway.
Symptom: F7: zones cut out mid-cook. SHR, 5HR or SHOW: display lights but nothing heats. Cause: F7 means the electronics passed 158°F, usually from poor ventilation below the cooktop or a failed fan. The SHR family means Showroom mode is on. Fix: For F7, cool, reset, then check fan and clearances. For Showroom mode, exit it per the manual or have us clear it.
Symptom: Error 3: steady tone, stuck segments. Error 47: zones stop and the code shows. Cause: Error 3 is moisture or an object on the control area. Error 47 is a LIN communication fault between internal boards. Fix: Dry and clear the controls, then power cycle for 30 seconds. A recurring 47 needs harness and board diagnosis.
Symptom: Keys unresponsive or one key acting as though it is held down. Cause: Wolf defines it as a pad error or stuck key, often from residue or moisture on the glass. Fix: Clean and dry, reset power. A persistent code means replacing the touch control.
Symptom: Constant sparking, sparking with no flame, or no spark. Cause: Wet or dirty burners, misplaced caps, foil in the burner pan, oversized pans, poor ground or polarity, or a failed switch, electrode, spark module or regulator. Fix: Dry, reseat and clean first, then power cycle. We test and replace ignition parts; regulator and gas supply checks are for a technician.
Wolf's own guidance is short: keep burner caps seated and ports clean, let burners dry fully after cleaning, clean igniters, never line burner pans with foil, and keep induction and electric control areas dry and clear. Where you live changes how often. Coastal owners should focus on drying and corrosion checks. Inland owners should focus on airflow and dust under induction units.
We cover the whole county, from oceanfront condos with elevator rules to inland properties with long driveways and gates, so tell us about access when you book. Send the model and serial numbers, a photo of the cooktop and any code, and when the fault occurs: after cleaning, on hot afternoons, on damp mornings. That context points us toward the right parts before we arrive. Any smell of gas means leaving the home and calling SDG&E first; ignition clicking without a gas smell can wait for us.
On gas CG and SRT units, nearly every failure is a small part: electrode, switch, spark module or regulator. Repair is almost always the answer. CI and CE touch-control failures are also routine. The real decision point is legacy CT induction, where a failed power board can approach the price of a new top, and a new unit may not match your countertop cutout. The $99 diagnostic, credited toward the repair, settles which way to go.

Yes. It is non-refundable and credited toward the total repair cost if you proceed. There are no residential exceptions.
A 90-day labor warranty and a 1-year parts warranty, both starting on the date the repair is completed.
No. A symptom narrows the search, but the diagnostic visit on the exact model confirms the actual fault before any repair is authorized.
Wolf's own published step: breaker off for 30 seconds, then retest. If the code returns, photograph it and book - it is read against service data on-site.
The reignition system senses a flame problem - or moisture after cleaning. Dry and reseat first; persistent clicking is electrode or module work.
No - they are mechanical with spark reignition. Only the induction and electric glass tops speak in codes.
On the underside of the cooktop from the cabinet below - under the burner box on gas tops.
Yes - steamer, fryer and grill modules are each diagnosed as their own appliance.
We found no CPSC recall for Wolf cooktops. Wolf's recalls on record involve ranges, most recently Dual Fuel ranges with infrared griddles announced in November 2024. If you own a Wolf range, check the recall on cpsc.gov or the manufacturer site using your model and serial numbers.
Wolf is part of Sub-Zero Group, based in Madison, Wisconsin. Sub-Zero acquired Wolf's residential line in 2000. We are an independent service company, not affiliated with the manufacturer, and we repair Wolf gas, induction and electric cooktops throughout San Diego County.
CI is the current induction series and CT is the legacy one. Your model number, found on the data label or in the owner's paperwork, starts with the series letters. It matters because Wolf publishes separate error codes for each: F7 is a CT overheating code, while 3 and 47 are CI codes.
Not in any meaningful way. San Diego's hard water scales dishwashers, ice makers and steam ovens, but a cooktop does not use a water supply. Mineral spots from boil-overs are a cleaning issue only. For cooktops, moisture, salt air, heat and dust matter much more.

“Viktor made multiple trips to complete our cooktop installation, as the 1st unit did not fit the counter. He was very thorough and provided recommendations for our project. Although we still need electrical work, he advised us that he was unable to do it himself before starting the installation.” — Ryan Rooker, Google review
