Bosch ranges
Bosch's 800 Series ranges come in gas, dual-fuel and induction - and their code story splits cleanly. The induction models speak the fully documented cooktop dialect: F-codes for overheating, U400 and E9000 for voltage. For everything else, Bosch's official line is 'an electronics fault has occurred' - which we treat as an instruction to measure, not to guess.
A photo of the model label and the complete installation helps the team understand the configuration before the visit.

HDS-family machines - gas burners over an electric oven, including the 18,000 BTU double-ring burner.
HII-family slide-ins - the documented induction code dialect on top, electric oven below.
Front-control slide-ins and industrial-style freestanding models share platforms.
Start with the symptom
A symptom narrows the inspection; it does not identify the failed component. The $99 visit confirms the actual fault on the exact model before any repair is authorized.
Igniter, spark module and valve on gas tops - moisture checked before parts.
The documented overheat family - and under-counter ventilation.
The dual-fuel split: oven-side element, igniter or control per fuel type.
Fan, element and sensor health - measured against a reference.
Power path and the E305-style communication check.
Thermal cutout and latch - the classic high-heat casualty, routinely repaired.
Series and model numbers
The prefix names the fuel, the fuel names the diagnosis - and on induction models the cooktop half arrives with a fully documented code table.
Model label
The rating plate with E-Nr, FD date code and serial is on the oven frame behind the door, or behind the storage drawer - open both to find it, and photograph it whole. Photograph the complete label — the full model and serial identify parts and production year better than the series name alone.
Indicators and alerts
For any message not shown, use the manual for the exact model rather than a generic list.
Bosch diagnostics
Induction-top codes and the voltage family are officially documented by Bosch for slide-in ranges; E305 carries double independent confirmation. Oven-side codes with conflicting public decodes - E115 aside on wall ovens, E118 among them - are excluded here and read against factory data on-site.
Preventive service and owner care
Alpha Pro provides preventive and general maintenance for Bosch ranges. The appliance design determines which procedures are accessible and appropriate.
Owner maintenance
Professional maintenance
A professional visit can evaluate accessible systems without assuming every procedure applies to every model.
Diagnosis before parts
Call or book with the model label, exact behavior, any displayed codes, photos, and access notes.
The technician examines the reported condition in context: ignition, flame quality, temperatures, elements, controls, door fit, and relevant components.
Findings and proposed work are explained before repair proceeds. The residential diagnostic is credited toward an approved repair.
Service area and operating context
Poway sits in the hills off I-15 - ranch properties of Old Poway, gated Green Valley, newer streets off Espola Road. Garage refrigerators fight summer heat, canyon dust clogs condensers, and hard water leaves scale in ice makers and washer valves.
Inland heat and hard water set the pattern here: garage refrigerators work hardest in summer, dust clogs condensers, and scale builds in ice makers, dishwashers and washer valves.
During maintenance, accessible metal surfaces can be inspected for corrosion, moisture exposure, or conditions that may warrant attention. Location alone does not establish the cause of a failure.
A better repair decision
There is no honest universal age or price threshold. Start with the exact model and a diagnosis.
Local notes · Poway
Poway calls itself the City in the Country, and its kitchens live with that. Horse trails, dirt roads and barn dust drift indoors, summers run hot, and most houses date from 1970 to 1999. A Bosch range in a Green Valley or Old Coach Estates kitchen has to pull cooling air through that dust and run on wiring that may be decades older than the appliance. Those three factors, dust, heat and older circuits, shape our work on these ranges in Poway more than anything else.
Every Bosch induction range relies on a cooling fan to keep its electronics and cooking zones within limits. The fan pulls room air, and in Poway that air often carries fine dust from 78-plus miles of trails where horses have priority, from arenas and from dirt roads. Over time the intake and fan blades load up and airflow drops. Summer heat then finishes the job. Poway's August average high is about 84 degrees, and the hot season runs from roughly July 1 through late September. A warm kitchen and a partly clogged fan are the classic setup for overheat codes. Large parts of Poway were evacuated in 2003 and again in 2007, and wildfire smoke leaves fine particles on everything, including the grille around a range. Housing is the third factor. About 69 percent of homes were built between 1970 and 1999, and many large four-bedroom kitchens have been remodeled around a new slide-in. Older circuits and reused connections can trigger Bosch voltage checks.
Symptom: F2, F4 or E7015 on an induction model, often late in a long cooking session in summer. Cause: The cooling fan is clogged with dust or failing, so the electronics overheat. Fix: We clean the air path, test the fan and replace it if it is weak or noisy, then check the power module.
Symptom: Freestanding oven door will not unlock, or e126 appears after a clean cycle. Cause: The lock motor or its switch failed after repeated exposure to self-clean heat, or a wire at the lock loosened. Fix: Reset per Bosch instructions. If it persists, we replace the lock motor or switch.
Symptom: The range will not start and shows a voltage code. Cause: Supply out of range or a loose connection at the terminal block, often where older kitchen wiring was reused. Fix: We measure the supply and verify the terminal block against the wiring diagram.
Symptom: Gas models take a long time to heat or do not heat at all. Cause: A tired igniter or gas valve problem, typical on gas ovens as they age. Fix: Igniter current is measured; the igniter or valve is replaced. Do not attempt valve work yourself.
The single most useful habit in Poway is keeping dust away from the range's air paths. Wipe the areas around the vents and toe space, and after a smoke or ash event, clean surrounding surfaces before cooking. In summer, run lower settings and the hood fan during long sessions. Because self-clean runs very hot, schedule it for a cool morning rather than a 90-degree afternoon, and clear the cooktop before you start. Pet owners should add a quick vacuum under the range, since hair collects there with the dust.
Most Poway homes are single-family with driveways, so parking is rarely a problem. On rural or equestrian properties, give us gate instructions and tell us if animals will be loose near the house. Leave a clear path so the slide-in can be pulled forward for fan, wiring or gas work. Tell us the model and serial, the displayed code and the moment it tends to appear, especially if it follows long cooking or self-clean. If you ever smell gas, leave the house and call SDG&E first.
Cooling fans, door locks, sensors and igniters are the kind of repairs that make sense on a Bosch range. The decision gets closer when an older induction unit needs both power electronics and glass. In a large Poway kitchen with a custom cutout, keeping the existing slide-in often avoids cabinet work as well. A $99 diagnostic, which we apply to the repair bill, tells you which way the numbers point.

Yes. It is non-refundable and credited toward the total repair cost if you proceed. There are no residential exceptions.
A 90-day labor warranty and a 1-year parts warranty, both starting on the date the repair is completed.
No. A symptom narrows the search, but the diagnostic visit on the exact model confirms the actual fault before any repair is authorized.
The supply voltage is outside the normal operating range - officially an installation or supply issue. The connection gets measured and corrected; no range part is replaced for a wiring fault.
On gas 800 Series ranges it is a communication fault between the touch-control module and the main boards. Connections and boards are tested in order on-site.
The burners themselves do not - they are diagnosed directly: igniters, spark module, valves. The oven and display side reports the E-codes.
On the oven frame behind the door or behind the storage drawer - photograph the E-Nr and FD date code together; Bosch parts require both.
Yes - gas, dual-fuel and induction, each with its own diagnostic path and the right instruments for it.
Bosch induction electronics depend on a cooling fan. When the kitchen is warm and the fan intake is dusty, there is less margin, so overheat codes like F2 or F4 show up late in a long session. Cleaning the air path often helps. If it continues, the fan may be failing.
It is better to avoid it. Self-clean pushes the oven to very high temperatures, and on a hot day the electronics and door lock work harder. Run it on a cool morning with the cooktop off, and call us if the door stays locked afterward.
Usually the range is fine. Bosch slide-ins check the supply before starting, and codes like U400 or E9000 point to voltage or a connection issue. In older homes, reused wiring is a common cause. Have the circuit and terminal block checked by a qualified person.
Fine ash settles on surfaces and can be pulled into fan intakes. One smoky week will not kill a range, but it adds to the dust load. Wipe the cooktop and surrounding areas after smoke events and keep the vent areas clean.
