Fisher & Paykel dishwashers
Fisher & Paykel invented the DishDrawer, and San Diego kitchens are full of them - Series 7 doubles and singles, Series 9 integrated models, and tall legacy drawers. The platform reports honest fault codes: F1 for the flood switch, U1 for fill, A1 for temperature. One caveat the factory itself makes: meanings shift between generations, so the model comes first.
A photo of the model label and the complete installation helps the team understand the configuration before the visit.
Double DD24DAX9-N and single DD24SAX9-N Contemporary drawers with Knock to Pause.
DD24DI9-N and DD24SI9-N fully integrated drawers behind cabinetry.
DD24DCTX7, DD24STI7 and earlier DD603-era machines - decades of installs.
Each drawer is its own wash system - doubles are genuinely two machines.
Start with the symptom
A symptom narrows the inspection; it does not identify the failed component. The $99 visit confirms the actual fault on the exact model before any repair is authorized.
The F1 pattern - lid seals, tub seals and hoses inspected before any reset.
The U1 path - tap, valve, and the spray arm seated on its impeller.
The A1 heater territory - testable to a number.
Rails, bumpers and the lid mechanism - honest mechanics.
Doubles are two machines - each diagnosed on its own.
Sensing calibration on Series 7 fronts - a documented adjustment.
Series and model numbers
Every drawer is a complete wash system, and the code table follows the generation - which is why the model plate is read before the code is.
Model label
The model and serial label is inside the drawer, on the tub wall - open the drawer fully to read it. On doubles, note which drawer shows the fault. Photograph the complete label — the full model and serial identify parts and production year better than the series name alone.
Indicators and alerts
For any message not shown, use the manual for the exact model rather than a generic list.
Fisher & Paykel diagnostics
F1, U1 and A1 are consistent across Fisher & Paykel's support literature and independent service references. Beyond them, the factory itself notes meanings vary by generation - so the long tail is read per-model, not copied from the internet.
Preventive service and owner care
Alpha Pro provides preventive and general maintenance for Fisher & Paykel dishwashers. The appliance design determines which procedures are accessible and appropriate.
Owner maintenance
Professional maintenance
A professional visit can evaluate accessible systems without assuming every procedure applies to every model.
Diagnosis before parts
Call or book with the model label, exact behavior, any displayed codes, photos, and access notes.
The technician examines the reported condition in context: fill, wash, drain, drying, controls, leaks, and relevant components.
Findings and proposed work are explained before repair proceeds. The residential diagnostic is credited toward an approved repair.
Service area and operating context
Poway sits in the hills off I-15 - ranch properties of Old Poway, gated Green Valley, newer streets off Espola Road. Garage refrigerators fight summer heat, canyon dust clogs condensers, and hard water leaves scale in ice makers and washer valves.
Inland heat and hard water set the pattern here: garage refrigerators work hardest in summer, dust clogs condensers, and scale builds in ice makers, dishwashers and washer valves.
During maintenance, accessible metal surfaces can be inspected for corrosion, moisture exposure, or conditions that may warrant attention. Location alone does not establish the cause of a failure.
A better repair decision
There is no honest universal age or price threshold. Start with the exact model and a diagnosis.
Local notes · Poway
Ask a Poway homeowner about white spots on glassware and you will usually get a knowing nod. The City of Poway even says so in its own water FAQ: calcium leaves spots on dishes and builds up on fixtures. Inside a Fisher & Paykel DishDrawer, that same calcium ends up on the heater plate, the inlet valve and the rotor jets. Over years it turns cloudy glasses into heating codes, slow fills and weak wash action. Most of our Poway calls on these drawers trace back to minerals.
Poway treats its own water at the Lester J. Berglund plant, and nearly all of the raw supply is imported through the San Diego County Water Authority, with the rest from Lake Poway. The city's 2024 report lists a distribution average of 236 mg/L, close to 13.8 grains per gallon, which is very hard on the USGS scale. A DishDrawer heats a small, fresh charge of water in each tub, and hot water is exactly where calcium carbonate comes out of solution. The mineral coats the heater plate, which then runs hotter to reach its target and cycles longer. It also crusts the fine screen at the inlet valve and the jets in the rotor, so fill slows and spray weakens. Household size speeds all of this up. Census figures show about 2.9 people per Poway home, with many four- and five-bedroom houses, so drawers often run every day. Most local housing dates from 1970 to 1999, so a DishDrawer here is more likely to have arrived with a kitchen remodel than with the original build. Those remodel units are now reaching the age when scale-related parts wear out.
Symptom: Glasses look etched or milky, and a chalky layer forms inside the tub. Cause: Hard water minerals left behind as the drawer dries, made worse by low rinse aid or too little detergent for the water. Fix: We descale the tub and rotor, set the detergent dose and rinse aid for very hard water, and clean the inlet screen.
Symptom: The drawer runs much longer than usual, dishes are lukewarm, and F4 appears. Cause: Scale insulates the heater plate until it cannot reach temperature in time, or the element or its relay has failed. Fix: We test the heater circuit, replace the element or control as needed, and descale so the new part is not choked.
Symptom: The drawer hums, takes a long time to fill, or stops with a water-supply or fill-valve fault. Cause: Mineral deposits clog the inlet valve's screen, or the valve coil has failed. Model code tables vary, so we confirm against yours. Fix: We clean or replace the inlet valve and check water pressure at the supply.
Symptom: Water enters but there is no wash sound, and F2 shows. Cause: Scale flakes, glass chips or seeds jam the rotor, or the wash motor or wiring has failed. Fix: We clear and descale the rotor and test the motor before replacing anything.
Descaling and dosing do more for a DishDrawer in Poway than any other habit. In testing by the Water Quality Research Foundation, softened water allowed up to about 70 percent less dishwasher detergent with equal or better results, so homes with a softener can often cut back. Homes without one should lean on rinse aid and regular descaling. Clean the filters often in a large household, because scale flakes collect there too. A drawer that is kept clean also shows its faults earlier, which keeps a small repair from becoming a large one.
We serve Green Valley, Old Coach Estates, Rancho Arbolitos, The Grove, Garden Road and Old Poway. Some properties sit on long private drives or equestrian lots, so tell us about gates, dogs or where to park. Have the model and serial number, the code and which drawer shows it, and a photo of any film or spotting on glasses. We check the heater, inlet valve and rotor on both drawers and walk you through what we find. If a part is not on the truck, we order it and return to finish the job.
Most scale-related failures are repairable: heater elements, inlet valves, rotors and pumps are individual parts. A remodel-era DishDrawer that fits your cabinetry is also costly to replace. Replacement makes more sense when the control has failed along with a heater and pump on an older unit. Our $99 diagnostic is credited toward the repair, so you see the real repair cost before choosing.

Yes. It is non-refundable and credited toward the total repair cost if you proceed. There are no residential exceptions.
A 90-day labor warranty and a 1-year parts warranty, both starting on the date the repair is completed.
No. A symptom narrows the search, but the diagnostic visit on the exact model confirms the actual fault before any repair is authorized.
The flood switch found water in the base pan - a real leak somewhere in the drawer. Turn off water and power and book; the code holds until the source is repaired.
A fill fault: the drawer could not take on water. Check the tap and hose; the visit tests the valve and confirms the spray arm rotates freely.
Yes - each drawer is a complete wash system with its own pump, valve and controls. A fault in one says nothing about the other.
Inside the drawer on the tub wall - open the drawer fully. On doubles, note which drawer faulted.
Yes - from DD603-era machines forward. Code meanings shift by generation, which is exactly why the plate is read first.
Poway's water averages about 236 mg/L, which is very hard. Minerals dry onto glass when rinse aid is low or detergent is underdosed. Topping up rinse aid, adjusting the dose and descaling the drawer usually help. If cloudiness persists, we check the heater and rotor.
It helps with scale on the heater, inlet valve and rotor. Softened water also needs less detergent, and industry testing found up to about 70 percent less can work as well. Cut the dose after installing a softener, or extra suds can trigger an F1 code.
A cleaning cycle with a dishwasher descaler runs about as long as a normal wash. Do each drawer separately with the filters cleaned first. Heavy crusts on the rotor or heater plate may need more than one pass or a manual clean during a service visit.
Slow filling usually points to the water inlet side, not the drain pump. A mineral-clogged inlet screen or a weak inlet valve is the typical cause in hard water. We check supply pressure, clean the screen and replace the valve if it tests weak.
