Frigidaire ice machines
Frigidaire ice lives in two places: the EFIC-series countertop machines that made the brand a nugget-ice household name, and the ice makers built into Frigidaire refrigerators and freezers. Neither publishes fault codes - the countertops speak through indicator lights, and honest service starts from that fact.
A photo of the model label and the complete installation helps the team understand the configuration before the visit.

Start with the symptom
A symptom narrows the inspection; it does not identify the failed component. The $99 visit confirms the actual fault on the exact model before any repair is authorized.
Pump delivery and the sealed system - the honest countertop split.
Auger and refrigeration balance on EFIC235/255 - plus water quality.
Sensor, baffle seating and scale - solved with cleaning more often than parts.
Fill valve flow and the new filter's seating - checked first.
San Diego hard water: a descale routine that actually matches the manual.
Auger wear - a real part with a real replacement path.
Series and model numbers
Countertop machines are self-contained appliances; built-in makers are subsystems of the refrigerator - the model plate that matters is different in each case.
Model label
On EFIC countertops the rating label is on the bottom or lower back panel of the unit. For built-in ice makers, use the refrigerator's plate inside the fresh-food compartment - that is what orders parts. Photograph the complete label — the full model and serial identify parts and production year better than the series name alone.
Indicators and alerts
For any message not shown, use the manual for the exact model rather than a generic list.
Frigidaire diagnostics
Verified: no Frigidaire ice maker publishes a fault-code table - countertops signal with lights, built-ins fail silently through the refrigerator. Any 'EFIC error code list' circulating online is invented, and none of it is repeated here.
Preventive service and owner care
Alpha Pro provides preventive and general maintenance for Frigidaire ice machines. The appliance design determines which procedures are accessible and appropriate.
Owner maintenance
Professional maintenance
A professional visit can evaluate accessible systems without assuming every procedure applies to every model.
Diagnosis before parts
Call or book with the model label, exact behavior, any displayed codes, photos, and access notes.
The technician examines the reported condition in context: production rate, water flow, harvest behavior, drainage, controls, and relevant components.
Findings and proposed work are explained before repair proceeds. The residential diagnostic is credited toward an approved repair.
Service area and operating context
From established west-side streets to Otay Ranch's new communities, Chula Vista runs every appliance generation - big families, big laundry loads and builder suites hitting their first repairs.
South Bay and East County bring summer heat, hard water and hard-working family appliances - practical repairs with strong parts availability are the local priority.
During maintenance, accessible metal surfaces can be inspected for corrosion, moisture exposure, or conditions that may warrant attention. Location alone does not establish the cause of a failure.
A better repair decision
There is no honest universal age or price threshold. Start with the exact model and a diagnosis.
Local notes · Chula Vista
In a Chula Vista household of three or four people, the ice dispenser gets used all day. On Frigidaire French-door and side-by-side refrigerators, that traffic leads to jammed chutes, clumped ice in the bucket and valves that wear sooner. Water plays a part too, and here it depends on which side of town you live on, because east and west Chula Vista are served by different utilities with different mineral levels. We repair Frigidaire ice makers citywide and set up each fix for the way your household actually uses ice.
Chula Vista is split between two water suppliers. Otay Water District serves the eastern master-planned areas, including Eastlake, Otay Ranch and Rolling Hills Ranch, and reported a system average of 9.4 grains per gallon in 2025, which is hard. Sweetwater Authority serves western and central Chula Vista and reported an average of 193 mg/L, about 11.3 grains, which is very hard. Otay buys treated water from several plants, so its hardness shifts with the blend. Either way, calcium builds up in the refrigerator's water filter and on the inlet valve seat. Household size is the other factor. The city averages about 3.1 people per home, so ice makers cycle constantly and dispensers take a beating. Many east-side homes were built after 2000 and came with French-door or side-by-side refrigerators that are now out of warranty. Bay humidity on the west side does little to ice output, but on hot September days, when the city's mean monthly maximum reaches about 92°F, the freezer still has to stay cold enough for the ice maker to keep working.
Symptom: The dispenser won't deliver ice and a French-door model shows DI SP. Cause: Ice has clumped in the chute, often after cubes partly melted during heavy dispensing and refroze. Fix: We clear the chute and bucket and check the auger and bucket fit. If jams keep returning, we look at freezer temperature and door sealing.
Symptom: Cubes stick together in large chunks and the dispenser grinds or stalls. Cause: Cubes soften slightly during frequent door openings and refreeze, or a dripping inlet valve adds water to the bucket. Fix: We empty and dry the bucket, test the valve for leakage and confirm the freezer holds temperature between openings.
Symptom: Small cubes, a slow ice harvest and weak water flow from the dispenser. Cause: A filter clogged by hard water, or supply pressure below the roughly 20 psi a Frigidaire ice maker needs. Fix: We change the filter, measure line pressure and inspect the valve screen for scale before running a test fill.
Symptom: No harvest at all even though the freezer is at temperature and water is connected. Cause: A failed ice maker module, or an inlet valve coil that no longer opens. Fix: We check voltage at the valve and module, replace the part that failed and run a full cycle to confirm.
Heavy use is fine as long as the basics keep pace. Change the water filter when the indicator asks, because it traps particles that would otherwise reach the valve. Empty the ice bucket now and then, especially if some cubes sit at the bottom for weeks. Don't force the dispenser paddle when it hesitates; clear the chute instead. If your home is on the west side's harder water, check for crust on the fill cup a little more often.
We'll ask which part of the city you're in, since it tells us which water to expect. At the house, we read the display for codes, check freezer temperature, and test water pressure and valve operation before replacing anything. Room to roll the refrigerator forward helps, and knowing where the shutoff is saves time. Gated communities in Eastlake and Otay Ranch should share access details when booking. Have the model and serial number and a photo of any display message ready. Renters should have the landlord's approval handy.
An ice maker fault alone is rarely a reason to replace a Frigidaire refrigerator. Valves, modules and chute parts are low-cost. A fridge from the east side's 2000s building boom may have other issues, though, such as a warm freezer, a failing fan or control faults. We check the whole appliance during the diagnosis so the ice maker repair isn't spent on a refrigerator that's about to need a bigger fix.

Yes. It is non-refundable and credited toward the total repair cost if you proceed. There are no residential exceptions.
A 90-day labor warranty and a 1-year parts warranty, both starting on the date the repair is completed.
No. A symptom narrows the search, but the diagnostic visit on the exact model confirms the actual fault before any repair is authorized.
The water-level sensor is misreading - scale, dirt or a misseated internal baffle. Clean and reseat first; a persistent light is a sensor repair.
No - indicator lights are the entire vocabulary. Honest diagnosis works from behavior: pump sound, water movement and ice quality.
Built-in makers are diagnosed through the refrigerator; this visit covers the fill valve, maker assembly and control from that side.
Yes - local hard water scales sensors and molds quickly, and half of all 'broken' countertop calls end at a proper cleaning.
On the bottom or lower back panel of countertop units; for built-ins, on the refrigerator's plate inside the fresh-food section.
Sweetwater's 2025 average of 193 mg/L is a bit harder than Otay's 9.4 grains per gallon, which works out to about 161 mg/L. Both are hard enough to scale an inlet valve over time. On either side of town, regular filter changes and an occasional look at the fill cup are the best protection.
DI SP on French-door models signals an ice chute jam. Ice has clumped in the chute and the dispenser can't push it through. Empty the bucket, break up the clump and clear the chute. If the code keeps coming back, call us so we can check freezer temperature and door sealing.
Cubes fuse when they partly melt and refreeze, which happens with frequent door openings, a freezer that runs a little warm or a valve that drips into the bucket. Emptying the bucket fixes it for a while. If clumping returns quickly, a valve or temperature problem is likely.
Yes. Frigidaire ice makers need steady water pressure to fill the mold properly. A filter packed with minerals and sediment restricts flow, so cubes come out small and the bin fills slowly. Replacing the filter is the first thing we check because it's the cheapest fix.
