GE Profile dishwashers
GE Profile dishwashers - the PDP and PDT lines with UltraFresh System and Dry Boost - keep their displays quiet by design. The messages they do show are the ones worth taking seriously: H2O for a fill problem and Leak Detected from the flood sensor in the base. Everything else is diagnosed by symptom, which suits a machine this well instrumented.
A photo of the model label and the complete installation helps the team understand the configuration before the visit.
PDP715 and PDP755-class machines - UltraFresh System with Microban, third rack, down to 42 dBA.
PDT715 and PDT785-class stainless-tub machines with Dry Boost with Fan Assist.
The base-pan flood sensor behind the Leak Detected message.
Earlier Profile machines still installed and serviced across the county.
Start with the symptom
A symptom narrows the inspection; it does not identify the failed component. The $99 visit confirms the actual fault on the exact model before any repair is authorized.
Drain path, check valve and pump - plus the disposer knockout on fresh installs.
Fan-assist drying needs a healthy vent, fan and rinse aid - tested in order.
San Diego hard water versus the dispenser and rinse-aid settings.
Supply valve, line and inlet valve - the documented fill path.
Latch and strike alignment - panel weight matters on integrated installs.
Heater and thermistor territory - measured directly, no code needed.
Series and model numbers
PDP versus PDT is control location; the tier digits decide racks, jets and drying hardware - the plate answers all of it.
Model label
The model and serial label is on the left side of the tub opening, visible when the door is open - GE also prints it on the tub's front lip on some models. Photograph the complete label — the full model and serial identify parts and production year better than the series name alone.
Indicators and alerts
For any message not shown, use the manual for the exact model rather than a generic list.
GE Profile diagnostics
H2O and Leak Detected meanings are consistent across GE's support material and independent service sources. The 888-style display behaviors circulating online carry conflicting explanations and are excluded - the visit reads the machine, not the forum.
Preventive service and owner care
Alpha Pro provides preventive and general maintenance for GE Profile dishwashers. The appliance design determines which procedures are accessible and appropriate.
Owner maintenance
Professional maintenance
A professional visit can evaluate accessible systems without assuming every procedure applies to every model.
Diagnosis before parts
Call or book with the model label, exact behavior, any displayed codes, photos, and access notes.
The technician examines the reported condition in context: fill, wash, drain, drying, controls, leaks, and relevant components.
Findings and proposed work are explained before repair proceeds. The residential diagnostic is credited toward an approved repair.
Service area and operating context
Poway sits in the hills off I-15 - ranch properties of Old Poway, gated Green Valley, newer streets off Espola Road. Garage refrigerators fight summer heat, canyon dust clogs condensers, and hard water leaves scale in ice makers and washer valves.
Inland heat and hard water set the pattern here: garage refrigerators work hardest in summer, dust clogs condensers, and scale builds in ice makers, dishwashers and washer valves.
During maintenance, accessible metal surfaces can be inspected for corrosion, moisture exposure, or conditions that may warrant attention. Location alone does not establish the cause of a failure.
A better repair decision
There is no honest universal age or price threshold. Start with the exact model and a diagnosis.
Local notes · Poway
The City of Poway treats its own water at the Berglund plant, drawing almost entirely on imported supply with a small share from Lake Poway. Its 2024 report puts the distribution average at 236 mg/L, about 13.8 grains per gallon, and the city's own FAQ warns that calcium leaves white spots on dishes. In a GE Profile dishwasher, that same calcium narrows inlet screens and coats the float and heater. Poway homes are also large, with about 2.9 people per household, so the machine runs often. We repair GE Profile dishwashers across Poway, from Garden Road to The Grove and Old Coach Estates.
Up to 99.5 percent of Poway's raw water is imported through the San Diego County Water Authority, with the rest from Lake Poway, and both are hard. The 2024 report lists 236 mg/L in the distribution system and 242 mg/L for Lake Poway, both very hard on the USGS scale. For a dishwasher, the fill path suffers first. Scale collects on the fine screen inside the inlet valve, so each fill takes longer or comes up short, and the control flags H2O. The float that tells the control the tub is full can get sticky with mineral too, which matters when the power flickers mid-cycle. Poway's housing adds volume. Most homes were built between 1970 and 1999, about 39 percent have four bedrooms, and households average 2.9 people. Busy family kitchens run a dishwasher once or twice a day, and all that hot water leaves more scale on the heater and spray arms. Inland summers matter less for a dishwasher than for a refrigerator, though dry air lets droplets evaporate faster on glassware, leaving their minerals behind as spots.
Symptom: H2O on the display and a tub that barely has water after the fill. Cause: A supply valve under the sink partly closed, low house pressure, a unit that isn't level, or an inlet valve screen choked with scale. Fix: We confirm the valve and pressure, level the machine, clean the inlet screen, and replace the inlet valve if it no longer opens fully.
Symptom: C4 on the display, often after a brief outage or breaker trip during a cycle. Cause: The machine filled twice after power returned. A float switch stuck with mineral or debris, or a clogged drain and sump, keeps the control from reading the water level correctly. Fix: We clean the float and sump, test the float switch, and clear the drain path so the level reads correctly again.
Symptom: Glasses and dark plates come out spotted even though they are clean. Cause: Calcium left behind as water evaporates, made worse by an empty rinse aid dispenser or scaled spray-arm holes. Fix: Refill rinse aid, descale the tub and arms, and use a hard-water detergent. If spotting persists with a clean machine, we check heater and wash temperatures.
Symptom: PrS appears on the display and the cycle stops. Cause: The pressure sensor that reads water level is sending an invalid signal, due to a failed sensor, a debris-blocked tube or a wiring fault. Fix: We inspect the sensor, its tube and connections, and replace the sensor if it tests bad.
At 13.8 grains per gallon and daily use, a Poway dishwasher needs a steady descaling habit. Rinse aid is the single biggest fix for spotting. Clean the filter often in a big family, since a partly blocked filter also weakens rinsing. If you already have a whole-house softener, check the salt level; if not, raise the detergent or hardness setting where your model allows it, and use a detergent labeled for hard water. Glassware will show the difference within a week or two.
Poway visits are usually easy on parking, with driveways at most single-family homes. On rural or horse properties, tell us about gates, loose dogs or animals, and any tricky road access. Clear the sink cabinet so we can reach the supply valve and drain connection. Have the model and serial number, a photo of the code, and a note on whether it followed a power blip. If you have a softener or a filter on the kitchen line, mention it, since it changes how we read the scale we find.
Inlet valves, float switches, pressure sensors and heaters are the typical Poway repairs, and they are well worth doing on a GE Profile. Heavy scale throughout the tub, pump and arms on an older machine is a different story; new parts will still be sitting in mineral. If a board and pump are also due, replacement plus better water treatment may be the smarter spend. Our $99 diagnostic is credited toward any repair.

No. A symptom narrows the search, but the diagnostic visit on the exact model confirms the actual fault before any repair is authorized.
A fill problem: the machine is not getting enough water or cannot read the level. Check the supply valve first; if it persists, the inlet valve and pressure sensor are tested on-site.
Treat it as real: the base-pan sensor found water. Close the supply valve and book - the message returns until the leak source is repaired.
On the left side of the tub opening with the door open - photograph the full label including the serial.
GE keeps deeper diagnostics technician-facing. The two messages it does show - H2O and Leak Detected - are the ones that protect your kitchen.
Yes - filters, vents and door seals behind UltraFresh are normal service items; Microban is in the materials and needs no maintenance.
The City of Poway's 2024 water quality report lists an average of 236 mg/L in the distribution system, about 13.8 grains per gallon, and Lake Poway at 242 mg/L. The city's FAQ gives an undated average of 15.8 grains. Either way, it is very hard and leaves spots on dishes.
C4 means the dishwasher filled twice after a power failure. Usually the float switch is stuck or the drain and sump are clogged, so the control can't read the water level. Cleaning the float area and filter often clears it; if not, the float switch or drain needs service.
H2O means low or no water during fill. Check that the valve under the sink is fully open. If it is, the inlet valve screen may be clogged with scale, which is common in Poway, or the valve itself may be failing. The unit also needs to sit level.
It usually helps a great deal. Softer water leaves fewer mineral spots and protects the heater and inlet valve. It also lets you cut back on detergent. Without a softener, rinse aid, hard-water detergent and regular descaling are your best tools.
