GE Profile dishwashers
GE Profile dishwashers - the PDP and PDT lines with UltraFresh System and Dry Boost - keep their displays quiet by design. The messages they do show are the ones worth taking seriously: H2O for a fill problem and Leak Detected from the flood sensor in the base. Everything else is diagnosed by symptom, which suits a machine this well instrumented.
A photo of the model label and the complete installation helps the team understand the configuration before the visit.

PDT715 and PDT785-class stainless-tub machines with Dry Boost with Fan Assist.

Start with the symptom
A symptom narrows the inspection; it does not identify the failed component. The $99 visit confirms the actual fault on the exact model before any repair is authorized.
Drain path, check valve and pump - plus the disposer knockout on fresh installs.
Fan-assist drying needs a healthy vent, fan and rinse aid - tested in order.
San Diego hard water versus the dispenser and rinse-aid settings.
Supply valve, line and inlet valve - the documented fill path.
Latch and strike alignment - panel weight matters on integrated installs.
Heater and thermistor territory - measured directly, no code needed.
Series and model numbers
PDP versus PDT is control location; the tier digits decide racks, jets and drying hardware - the plate answers all of it.
Model label
The model and serial label is on the left side of the tub opening, visible when the door is open - GE also prints it on the tub's front lip on some models. Photograph the complete label — the full model and serial identify parts and production year better than the series name alone.
Indicators and alerts
For any message not shown, use the manual for the exact model rather than a generic list.
GE Profile diagnostics
H2O and Leak Detected meanings are consistent across GE's support material and independent service sources. The 888-style display behaviors circulating online carry conflicting explanations and are excluded - the visit reads the machine, not the forum.
Preventive service and owner care
Alpha Pro provides preventive and general maintenance for GE Profile dishwashers. The appliance design determines which procedures are accessible and appropriate.
Owner maintenance
Professional maintenance
A professional visit can evaluate accessible systems without assuming every procedure applies to every model.
Diagnosis before parts
Call or book with the model label, exact behavior, any displayed codes, photos, and access notes.
The technician examines the reported condition in context: fill, wash, drain, drying, controls, leaks, and relevant components.
Findings and proposed work are explained before repair proceeds. The residential diagnostic is credited toward an approved repair.
Service areas and operating context
Alpha Pro serves GE Profile dishwashers in communities including La Jolla, Del Mar, Rancho Santa Fe, Carmel Valley, Poway, and the full San Diego County footprint below — ZIP by ZIP. Installation and room conditions vary from the coast to inland homes.
Recurring condensation, marine exposure, ventilation limits, and visible corrosion can be useful details during repair or maintenance.
Share room conditions, recent heat events, ventilation restrictions, and when the symptom appears.
During maintenance, accessible metal surfaces can be inspected for corrosion, moisture exposure, or conditions that may warrant attention. Location alone does not establish the cause of a failure.
A better repair decision
There is no honest universal age or price threshold. Start with the exact model and a diagnosis.
Local notes · San Diego County
GE Profile dishwashers are built in Louisville, Kentucky, by GE Appliances, which Haier Smart Home has owned since 2016. The line sits above standard GE models, with top-control PDT designs, stainless tubs, a hidden heater on some models, and Leak Defense on some hidden-heater units. The platform reports faults with a clear set of codes, and San Diego County's water gives those codes plenty to report. This page covers the whole platform, and our city pages add local detail for Chula Vista, La Jolla and Poway.
Almost all tap water in San Diego County is hard to very hard, but the degree depends on your retail water agency. The County Water Authority wholesales to 22 of them. In 2025 reports, the City of San Diego measured 237 to 243 mg/L by treatment plant, Helix Water District 206 mg/L, Sweetwater Authority 193 mg/L, Cal Am in Coronado 236 mg/L, and the Otay system about 9.4 grains per gallon. Santa Fe Irrigation District reported 275 mg/L in 2024, roughly 16 grains. The softest supply is the region's desalinated seawater at about 60 mg/L, but it is blended into other water before it reaches most taps. In practice, homes see roughly 9 to 16 grains per gallon. For a GE Profile dishwasher, harder water means faster scale on the heater, temperature sensor, inlet valve screen and spray arms. The rest of the county picture adds wear patterns. Coastal second homes sit idle and dry out pump seals. Large inland families run two cycles a day. With roughly 46 percent of households renting and a big military population moving on PCS orders, many dishwashers also change hands with the lease.
Symptom: Water left in the tub or a cycle that stops with a drain code. Cause: C1 is a pump-out over two minutes, C2 a total pump-out over seven minutes, C3 no drain, and C5 a pump-out that ended too soon. Clogged filter or sump, a disposer knockout left in, a kinked hose or a weak drain pump. Fix: Clear the filter, sump and hose path; replace the drain pump if it tests weak.
Symptom: Short fills, a stopped cycle, or a code right after a power outage. Cause: C4 means it filled twice after a power failure, pointing to a stuck float switch or clogged drain. H2O is low or no water at fill. PrS is an invalid signal from the pressure sensor. Fix: Check the supply valve and leveling, then test the inlet valve, float switch or pressure sensor.
Symptom: Cool, wet dishes and long cycles. Cause: C6 is water temperature too low; C7 means the temperature-sensor circuit is not working. Scale on the heater or sensor, or a failed part. Fix: Test the heater and sensor circuit; descale or replace as needed.
Symptom: Detergent left in the cup, a leak message, or a code that looks alarming but isn't. Cause: C8 is a blocked detergent cup. LEAK DETECTED appears on leak-sensing models; on others, 999 means the control needs a reset. #H is a Delay Start countdown, not a fault. Fix: Reload away from the cup, trace and repair leaks, or reset at the breaker.
The core routine is the same everywhere: run the dishwasher at least weekly, as GE advises, clean the filter, and keep rinse aid topped up. What changes across the county is descaling frequency. Match it to your water: harder supplies in the City of San Diego, Coronado and Santa Fe Irrigation District areas need it more often than Otay's. Landlords and military families on short leases should add a quick dishwasher check to every move-in and move-out. Each takes only a few minutes.
We work throughout the county, including condo towers, gated communities, military-family rentals off base and rural lots. When you call, give us the model and serial number, the exact code, the name of your water agency and whether the home has a softener. The technician checks the code history and water supply, tests the suspect part, and gives you a written quote before any parts are ordered. Clear the sink cabinet beforehand. For rentals, tell us who approves the repair. On-base housing has its own maintenance providers, so check with them first.
Most GE Profile dishwasher repairs are modest. Drain pumps, inlet valves, float switches, sensors, dispensers and seals rarely justify a new machine. Heaters and circulation pumps sit in the middle. A control board plus a pump together on an older unit is the usual tipping point, especially with heavy scale throughout. Owners of Profile dishwashers sold between 2006 and 2009, including some PDW7 models, should also check the 2012 heating-element recall on cpsc.gov or the manufacturer's site. Our $99 diagnostic is credited to the repair.

Yes. It is non-refundable and credited toward the total repair cost if you proceed. There are no residential exceptions.
A 90-day labor warranty and a 1-year parts warranty, both starting on the date the repair is completed.
No. A symptom narrows the search, but the diagnostic visit on the exact model confirms the actual fault before any repair is authorized.
A fill problem: the machine is not getting enough water or cannot read the level. Check the supply valve first; if it persists, the inlet valve and pressure sensor are tested on-site.
Treat it as real: the base-pan sensor found water. Close the supply valve and book - the message returns until the leak source is repaired.
On the left side of the tub opening with the door open - photograph the full label including the serial.
GE keeps deeper diagnostics technician-facing. The two messages it does show - H2O and Leak Detected - are the ones that protect your kitchen.
Yes - filters, vents and door seals behind UltraFresh are normal service items; Microban is in the materials and needs no maintenance.
No. #H shows the hours left on a Delay Start countdown. The dishwasher is waiting to begin. Cancel the delay, or let the countdown finish. If the cycle never begins after the countdown ends, that is a separate issue worth a service call.
Your water agency publishes a yearly water quality report listing hardness in mg/L or grains per gallon. Across San Diego County, figures range from about 9 grains on Otay's system to about 16 in the Santa Fe Irrigation District. Your bill names your agency.
In 2012, GE recalled about 1.3 million dishwashers sold from March 2006 to August 2009 under several brands, including some GE Profile PDW7 models, over a heating-element fire hazard. Check your model number against the recall notice on cpsc.gov or the manufacturer's site.
