KitchenAid dryers
KitchenAid dryers left production when Whirlpool repositioned its laundry brands after the 2006 Maytag purchase - but the KEYE and KGYE electric and gas machines, and the Superba line above them, are Whirlpool-built platforms whose parts and procedures never went away. No code tables, no boards to argue with: heat, airflow and drive, tested directly.
A photo of the model label and the complete installation helps the team understand the configuration before the visit.

The matching gas machines - igniter, coils and flame sensor instead of elements.
The upper KitchenAid laundry trim with electronic consoles and larger cycle sets.
Production ended in the mid-2000s; the Whirlpool parts system still carries the platform.
Start with the symptom
A symptom narrows the inspection; it does not identify the failed component. The $99 visit confirms the actual fault on the exact model before any repair is authorized.
Breaker leg or element on electric; valve coils on gas - measured, not assumed.
Door switch, thermal fuse and start switch - the documented chain.
Airflow: lint path and the San Diego wall vent before any part.
Rollers, idler and belt - the platform's known wear kit.
Cycling thermostat and airflow - tested together.
Taken seriously: the visit checks the valve, connections and combustion path.
Series and model numbers
The third letter tells the fuel - E electric, G gas - and the Whirlpool platform underneath means every wear part still has a number.
Model label
The model and serial label is inside the door opening, on the front panel below the drum mouth - open the door and photograph the full label. It is the key to a discontinued brand's very-much-alive parts book. Photograph the complete label — the full model and serial identify parts and production year better than the series name alone.
Indicators and alerts
For any message not shown, use the manual for the exact model rather than a generic list.
KitchenAid diagnostics
No fault-code table exists for KitchenAid's dryer generations - they are electromechanical Whirlpool platforms, and the honest diagnosis order is power, thermal safeties, heat source, airflow, drive. All wear parts remain orderable through the Whirlpool system.
Preventive service and owner care
Alpha Pro provides preventive and general maintenance for KitchenAid dryers. The appliance design determines which procedures are accessible and appropriate.
Owner maintenance
Professional maintenance
A professional visit can evaluate accessible systems without assuming every procedure applies to every model.
Diagnosis before parts
Call or book with the model label, exact behavior, any displayed codes, photos, and access notes.
The technician examines the reported condition in context: airflow, heat, cycle behavior, drum condition, controls, and relevant components.
Findings and proposed work are explained before repair proceeds. The residential diagnostic is credited toward an approved repair.
Service area and operating context
Poway sits in the hills off I-15 - ranch properties of Old Poway, gated Green Valley, newer streets off Espola Road. Garage refrigerators fight summer heat, canyon dust clogs condensers, and hard water leaves scale in ice makers and washer valves.
Inland heat and hard water set the pattern here: garage refrigerators work hardest in summer, dust clogs condensers, and scale builds in ice makers, dishwashers and washer valves.
During maintenance, accessible metal surfaces can be inspected for corrosion, moisture exposure, or conditions that may warrant attention. Location alone does not establish the cause of a failure.
A better repair decision
There is no honest universal age or price threshold. Start with the exact model and a diagnosis.
Local notes · Poway
Poway calls itself the City in the Country, and its laundry rooms prove it. Arena dust, hay chaff and trail dirt ride home on jeans and saddle pads, then end up in the dryer. That debris loads the lint screen faster than ordinary laundry and slips into the cabinet around the heater or burner. Add a garage laundry area on a hot inland afternoon and a KitchenAid dryer can run hot. A burning smell is a warning sign. We clean, test and repair these dryers across Poway.
Poway has more than 78 miles of city trails where horses have priority, plus the Poway Equestrian Center and many horse properties. Riding clothes, barn towels and saddle pads carry fine dust and hay fragments that a normal lint screen can't fully catch, especially one with a small tear or a worn seal. Debris that gets past it builds up inside the cabinet near the motor and the element or gas burner. Nationally, failure to clean is the leading contributing factor in home clothes dryer fires, according to U.S. Fire Administration data. Heat is the second factor. Poway's hot season runs from about July through late September, with August highs averaging around 84°F, and Santa Ana winds bring very dry, dusty air inland. Many homes are large family houses with garages, a common place for laundry. When the dryer draws hot garage air and pushes it through a long or dusty vent, exhaust temperatures climb and the safety devices trip sooner. Smoke and ash from wildfires, such as the 2003 Cedar and 2007 Witch fires that forced evacuations here, can also foul exterior vent hoods.
Symptom: A hot or scorched smell, lint or hay visible around the door seal, and repeated fuse failures. Cause: Dust and chaff get past a damaged screen or leaking duct seal and pile up near the heater or burner and the motor. Fix: We open the cabinet, vacuum the interior, replace the damaged screen or seals, and check the thermal fuse and high-limit thermostat.
Symptom: The igniter glows and goes out, or loads come out damp after a full cycle. Cause: On Whirlpool-built gas valves, a weakening secondary coil stops gas after the flame sensor opens. A blown thermal fuse can also cut power to the whole ignition circuit. Fix: We test the igniter, coils, flame sensor and fuse, then replace the coil kit or the failed part and confirm airflow.
Symptom: The AF code or Check Vent light appears in summer, and drying times stretch. Cause: Lint and dust in a long duct run, a crushed hose behind the machine, or a clogged exterior hood. Hot garage air leaves less margin before the dryer overheats. Fix: We clean the full vent run, replace flexible duct with 4-inch rigid metal, and shorten the route where we can.
Symptom: A gritty grind or a rhythmic thump that gets worse with heavy loads. Cause: Grit wears the drum rollers and glides, and a lint-caked blower wheel throws the balance off. Heavy horse blankets and bedding add stress. Fix: We replace the roller, idler and belt kit and clean or replace the blower wheel.
Shake out barn clothes and saddle pads outdoors, and brush off hay before anything goes in the dryer. Clean the lint screen every load, and wash it with detergent and a soft brush when it looks clogged. NFPA recommends a yearly vent cleaning. In a horse household, or with dogs and cats shedding, every six months is safer. After Santa Ana winds or smoke events, check the exterior hood for ash and debris.
Most Poway homes have driveway parking. On larger or rural lots, give clear directions, and tell us about gates, dogs or livestock near the laundry area. Garage laundry is easier when we have room to slide the dryer out and reach the exterior vent hood. Have the model and serial number and any code ready, and tell us whether the dryer is gas or electric. If you notice a burning smell, stop using the dryer until we inspect it. If you smell gas, leave the house and call SDG&E first.
Dirt and dust shorten a dryer's life only when they're left in place. Once cleaned, most KitchenAid dryers need low to mid-tier parts: fuses, thermostats, coils, igniters, rollers and belts. Repair usually makes sense. If the drum is rusted through, or the motor and control have failed together on a machine past the typical 10- to 13-year lifespan, we'll recommend replacing it. The $99 diagnostic is credited toward any repair.

A 90-day labor warranty and a 1-year parts warranty, both starting on the date the repair is completed.
No. A symptom narrows the search, but the diagnostic visit on the exact model confirms the actual fault before any repair is authorized.
Yes - the machines are Whirlpool-built and the platform's belts, rollers, elements, coils and fuses remain in the parts system. The full model number from the door label is what makes ordering exact.
Often one leg of the 240V supply: a half-tripped double breaker keeps the motor alive and the element dead. It is the first check, before any part.
Production ended in the mid-2000s after Whirlpool's laundry-brand realignment. Service and parts did not end with it.
Inside the door opening on the front panel - open the door and photograph the label.
Frequently yes - the failures are inexpensive wear parts on a simple platform. The diagnostic visit gives you a real number to decide with, and the $99 credits toward the repair.
Check the care label and the dryer's capacity first. Heavy, bulky items strain the drum rollers and belt, and hair and chaff overload the lint path. Brush them clean outside, dry smaller loads, and clean the screen right after. Air-drying the heaviest pieces is easier on the machine.
Debris may be trapped inside the cabinet rather than the vent. Dust and hay that slip past a torn screen or a leaking duct seal gather near the heater and motor. Stop using the dryer and have the cabinet opened and cleaned. That's a job for a technician, not a DIY fix.
Indirectly, yes. A garage dryer pulls in warm air and pushes it through the vent, so any restriction pushes temperatures toward the safety limits faster. A vent that copes in winter can trip a thermal fuse on a hot afternoon. Keeping the vent clean gives the dryer more margin on hot days.
Check it. Ash and debris can collect on exterior hood louvers and flaps and keep them from opening fully. Run the dryer and watch the hood from outside. If the flap barely moves or airflow feels weak, clean the hood and have the full run inspected.
