Poway coverage
Poway sits in the hills off I-15 - ranch properties of Old Poway, gated Green Valley, newer streets off Espola Road. Garage refrigerators fight summer heat, canyon dust clogs condensers, and hard water leaves scale in ice makers and washer valves.
Inland heat and hard water set the pattern here: garage refrigerators work hardest in summer, dust clogs condensers, and scale builds in ice makers, dishwashers and washer valves.
Typical repair pricing
Estimated dryer repair pricing for common work in standard installations. The exact scope and total are confirmed after diagnosis and before authorized repair work begins.
$99 residential diagnostic fee: non-refundable and credited toward the total repair cost when you proceed. Parts, model, installation, access and the confirmed repair scope can change the final total.

This parent page helps route a dryer request. A symptom, feature name or brand link does not by itself identify a failed part or confirm support for every model and installation.
Describe the earlier cycle, load and whether heat was expected. Long drying or wet clothes alone does not establish the failed component.
Note the earlier button, display and drum response. Do not repeat a cycle, reach into the drum or bypass a door switch to demonstrate the concern.
Describe whether the door closed, latched and stayed closed, and at what point the earlier cycle stopped or changed.
Note when the sound occurs and where it seems to come from. A sound alone does not establish the failed component.
Photograph the complete display and share the exact model. Do not include account passwords or assume a code has the same meaning across models.
Use existing paperwork or a safely visible label to identify the dryer. Do not move stacked equipment or touch power, gas or exhaust connections.
San Diego installations
San Diego homes mix three dryer configurations, and the configuration changes both the likely service scope and the parts involved. Identify yours from paperwork or a safely visible label before the visit.
The most common configuration in San Diego condos and newer homes. Heating elements and thermal fuses are the usual heat-related repair path.
Dries faster per cycle and is common in older single-family homes. Igniters, gas valve coils and thermocouples are brand- and model-specific parts.
Frequent in coastal condos and ADUs without an exterior vent. Sealed-system work on these models is quoted separately after diagnosis.
The U.S. Fire Administration reports about 2,900 home clothes-dryer fires each year, and failure to clean the dryer is the leading contributing factor. Long vent runs common in multi-story San Diego buildings make full exhaust-path cleaning part of the service conversation.
Safe owner checks
Leave the area immediately. From a safe location, call 911 or SDG&E at 1-800-411-7343. Do not use the dryer, operate switches or return to demonstrate the concern.
Stop using the dryer. If there is a fire, get out, stay out and call 911 from a safe location. Do not run another cycle to reproduce the problem.
Models and maintenance
A model-family name alone does not establish parts, code meanings or repair eligibility. Share the complete label and installation details before model-specific guidance is used.
Photograph the complete model and serial label only when it is visible without moving the dryer, removing panels or reaching near wiring, gas or exhaust connections.
Follow the matching owner guide for routine lint-filter and approved exterior care. Cleaning does not prove a dryer is safe after a fault.
Do not disconnect exhaust, move stacked equipment or change a gas or electrical connection. Share known access and installation details when scheduling.
Our Work
Share the appliance, installation, model label and observed concern when requesting service.
The visit establishes the proposed repair scope. Review the estimate before authorizing work.
Work proceeds after approval. Any new scope requires separate approval before it is added.
Display messages
No verified production dryer error-code library is linked from this parent page. Keep the complete message with the model label; do not transfer a definition or reset instruction between brands or models.
Visit, pricing and warranty wording
The residential service visit / diagnostic fee is $99. It always applies, is non-refundable and is credited toward the total repair cost if you proceed. No exceptions.
The commercial service visit / diagnostic fee is $150 and is separate from residential pricing.
After diagnosis, review the proposed scope and estimate before authorizing repair work.

1-year parts warranty.
Both terms begin on the date the repair is completed.
An online request starts scheduling; it does not by itself confirm an appointment or a model-specific repair outcome.

The most common cause is restricted airflow: a full lint screen, lint packed in the vent, a crushed duct or a stuck hood flap. Heating faults come second. Feel the air at the outdoor hood while the dryer runs. Weak airflow means a vent cleaning comes before any part replacement.
A clean, properly vented dryer is safe to run. Stay home while it runs, clean the lint screen first and don't leave it going overnight. If your vent exits near dry vegetation, clear plants and debris around the hood. Also keep the laundry area free of stored rags or paper.
Yes. Hair adds to the lint in every load and slips past the screen into the cabinet and vent. Homes with shedding dogs, cats or horses should clean the screen every load and have the vent cleaned at least once a year.
Leave the house now. From a safe spot, call SDG&E at 1-800-411-7343 or 911. Don't flip switches, use a phone indoors or unplug the dryer. After the gas company clears the home, we can diagnose the valve, connector or ignition system.
Local notes · Poway
Poway knows fire risk. Large parts of the city were evacuated in the 2003 Cedar Fire and again in the 2007 Witch Creek Fire, and Santa Ana winds still dry out the valley every fall. Inside the house, the appliance most tied to fire is the clothes dryer, and the leading factor in dryer fires is simply lint that nobody cleaned out. Poway laundry, heavy with barn dust, hay and pet hair, makes more of it. We repair gas and electric dryers from Whirlpool, LG, Samsung, GE and Maytag.
A dryer is a heater and a fan. The blower pulls room air across an electric element or gas burner, through the tumbling clothes, past the lint screen and out the exhaust vent. When that path narrows, heat has nowhere to go. Cycle-limiting thermostats trip, the high-limit safety cuts in, and eventually a thermal fuse blows. Loads from horse properties and multi-pet homes shed far more fiber per cycle than office clothes, so screens and vents fill faster. The house matters as much as the laundry. Most Poway homes were built between 1970 and 1999, and many laundry rooms sit on an interior wall or off the garage, with a vent that snakes through a wall cavity or attic to reach outside. Every foot and elbow adds resistance, and a flexible foil transition crushed behind the machine chokes airflow. National fire data puts failure to clean as the top contributing factor in home dryer fires, at 31% in the most recent USFA figures. Santa Ana conditions don't change the dryer, but they raise the stakes of any fire that starts.
Symptom: The drum turns but air is cold, often after a stretch of slow drying and a hot laundry room. Cause: Lint in the vent, a crushed foil duct or a stuck vent hood flap overheats the exhaust until the fuse opens. Fix: We replace the fuse and find the restriction, then recommend rigid or semi-rigid metal duct.
Symptom: The igniter glows or clicks, but no flame, or flame starts then drops out. Cause: A weak igniter, failed gas valve coils or a bad flame sensor. Fix: We test and replace the ignition parts. If you ever smell gas, leave the house and call SDG&E before anything else.
Symptom: A rhythmic thump or a high squeal as the drum turns. Noise usually grows louder over a few weeks. Cause: Worn drum rollers, idler pulley, belt or front glides, which wear faster with heavy loads and grit. Fix: Replace the worn support parts as a set.
Symptom: Auto-dry ends with damp towels, or runs until clothes are scorched. Cause: Fabric softener residue coating the moisture sensor bars. Dryer sheets leave the same waxy film on the lint screen. Fix: Clean the sensor bars and lint screen with warm soapy water; replace the sensor if needed.
Clean the lint screen before or after every load, with no exceptions for small loads. NFPA advises cleaning the exhaust vent every year; Whirlpool says every one to two years, sooner if drying slows. In a Poway home that washes barn clothes or lives with shedding dogs, treat yearly as the minimum. Replace any plastic or foil duct with metal. Check the outdoor hood so its flap opens freely; after a long trip, look for nests. Never run the dryer overnight or while nobody is home.
We start by confirming the complaint, then check airflow at the outside hood before opening the cabinet, because a vent problem can mimic a failed part. Please clear the area around the dryer and point us to where the vent exits: a wall, the roof or the garage. For gas models, make sure the shutoff valve behind the dryer is reachable. Have the model and serial number, found inside the door frame, and tell us whether the problem is no heat, slow drying or noise.
Dryers are simple machines, and most repairs, such as fuses, elements, igniters, belts and rollers, fall in the low to middle cost range. Dryers are generally cited at 10 to 13 years of life, so a control board failure near the end of that range is the main case for replacing. Fixing a vent problem often restores performance without any part at all. Repairs we complete carry 90 days on labor.
