LG dryers
LG dryers carry the Flow Sense system - d80, d90 and d95 codes that measure how blocked the exhaust duct actually is, in percent. It is a fire-prevention feature as much as a diagnostic, and it makes LG dryers unusually honest about the number-one cause of drying problems: the vent, not the machine.
A photo of the model label and the complete installation helps the team understand the configuration before the visit.
27-inch electric dryers with sensor dry and TurboSteam on upper trims (DLEX4000 class and up).
The matching gas machines - igniter, valve coils and flame sensor replace the element.
24-inch ventless heat-pump dryers for closets and condos - condensate path instead of a duct.
Steam models add a water feed and steam generator to the service map.
Start with the symptom
A symptom narrows the inspection; it does not identify the failed component. The $99 visit confirms the actual fault on the exact model before any repair is authorized.
The d80 story even without the code: vent restriction is measured before any part.
Supply leg or element on electric, coils on gas - measured directly.
Moisture sensing and airflow - tested together.
Filters, condenser and condensate path - the DLHC trio.
Rollers, idler and belt - the platform wear kit.
Water feed and steam generator on TurboSteam trims.
Series and model numbers
The suffix letters carry color and steam; the platform letter carries fuel - and on every vented model, Flow Sense watches the duct.
Model label
The model and serial label is inside the door opening, on the front panel below the drum mouth. Open the door and photograph it with any code showing. Photograph the complete label — the full model and serial identify parts and production year better than the series name alone.
Indicators and alerts
For any message not shown, use the manual for the exact model rather than a generic list.
LG diagnostics
All meanings verified against LG USA's official dryer error-code documentation, including the Flow Sense percentage codes. Vent-side codes are treated as the safety information they are - the duct gets cleared, not argued with.
Preventive service and owner care
Alpha Pro provides preventive and general maintenance for LG dryers. The appliance design determines which procedures are accessible and appropriate.
Owner maintenance
Professional maintenance
A professional visit can evaluate accessible systems without assuming every procedure applies to every model.
Diagnosis before parts
Call or book with the model label, exact behavior, any displayed codes, photos, and access notes.
The technician examines the reported condition in context: airflow, heat, cycle behavior, drum condition, controls, and relevant components.
Findings and proposed work are explained before repair proceeds. The residential diagnostic is credited toward an approved repair.
Service area and operating context
From established west-side streets to Otay Ranch's new communities, Chula Vista runs every appliance generation - big families, big laundry loads and builder suites hitting their first repairs.
South Bay and East County bring summer heat, hard water and hard-working family appliances - practical repairs with strong parts availability are the local priority.
During maintenance, accessible metal surfaces can be inspected for corrosion, moisture exposure, or conditions that may warrant attention. Location alone does not establish the cause of a failure.
A better repair decision
There is no honest universal age or price threshold. Start with the exact model and a diagnosis.
Local notes · Chula Vista
Chula Vista households average about 3.1 people, and a family that size can keep a dryer turning most of the day. Much of the east side was built in the 2000s, so plenty of LG dryers here have been through at least one move, a remodel or a new outlet. That is why power and wiring codes such as PS and nP come up so often. When a dryer tumbles but won't heat, the answer is frequently at the terminal block or the breaker, not inside the drum.
Roughly a third of Chula Vista's homes were built in 2000 or later, mainly in the master-planned east side: Eastlake, Otay Ranch, Millenia and Rolling Hills Ranch. In tract homes like these the laundry often sits in an attached garage or a hallway closet, and in a lot of houses the dryer was installed by whoever delivered it. A cord reconnected in a hurry, with white and red conductors swapped at the terminal block, is what LG's PS code flags. Load count is the other factor. With more than three people per household on average, drum rollers, the idler pulley and the belt reach their wear point sooner than in a smaller home. Summer here is milder than East County; the August mean daily high is about 77°F versus close to 89°F in El Cajon. But September averages a monthly maximum near 92°F, and the city's record is 103°F. A garage laundry on those days sends warmer intake air through the dryer, and a thermistor that is already drifting can trip a tE code. On the west side near the bay, humid salty air is harder on the metal vent hood than the dry inland air is.
Symptom: The dryer shows PS at startup and may refuse to run or heat. Cause: Improper voltage at the outlet, or the white and red wires reversed where the power cord meets the terminal block. This often follows a move or a new dryer being hooked to an old cord. Fix: We correct the cord connections, confirm a grounded 240 V outlet, and tighten any loose terminal screws. We don't recommend opening live terminals yourself.
Symptom: Normal tumbling, no heat, sometimes an nP code. Cause: No current reaching the heater: one breaker leg tripped, an open element, a blown thermal fuse or high-limit, or wiring damage at the terminal. Fix: We test voltage and each component in the heat circuit, replace what failed, and look for the airflow problem that tends to open fuses.
Symptom: A tE code, then no heat or a cycle that ends early. Cause: A failing thermistor or a loose connection to it. Poor airflow can also trigger these, and LG notes tE2 can appear with cold conditions or a steam cycle. Fix: LG's reset is to unplug, then hold Start for 5 seconds. If the code comes back we test and replace the thermistor and clear the vent.
Symptom: Thumping, squealing or a drum that stops while the motor hums. Cause: Rollers, the idler pulley, the belt and the front glides wear out with high cycle counts, and a family running several loads a day reaches that point sooner. Fix: We replace the worn support parts as a set so the drum runs quietly and true.
Big households generate a lot of lint, and pet hair adds more. Dogs and cats shed into bedding and towels, and that fiber ends up packed in the filter and the vent run, which is where Flow Sense codes start. Don't stack storage boxes against the back of a garage dryer where the duct connects. If you have moved recently or had a new dryer hooked up, it is worth having the cord connection checked once.
Most calls here are in single-family homes and townhomes with a driveway or guest parking. In gated east-side communities, let us know the gate procedure in advance. In apartment complexes, tell us the unit and where visitors park. If the dryer is in the garage, leave the door open or give us a way in, and move bikes or boxes so the machine can come away from the wall. Have the model and serial number, the code shown, and when the problem began. If it's a gas dryer and you smell gas, leave the house and call SDG&E before calling us.
Wiring corrections, thermistors, thermal fuses, heating elements and roller kits are low-cost repairs on an LG dryer and usually well worth doing. A control board failure on an older unit is the common point where replacement becomes the better choice. For dryers from the east side's 2000s building boom, age matters, so we'll give you the diagnosis and the repair price after the $99 diagnostic, which is credited toward the work.

Yes. It is non-refundable and credited toward the total repair cost if you proceed. There are no residential exceptions.
A 90-day labor warranty and a 1-year parts warranty, both starting on the date the repair is completed.
No. A symptom narrows the search, but the diagnostic visit on the exact model confirms the actual fault before any repair is authorized.
No - it is telling you your vent is about 90% blocked, and stopping for safety. Vent clearing resolves it; ignoring it is how lint fires start.
Often one dead leg of the 240V supply, then the heater circuit - nP on the display points the same direction. Both are measured, not guessed.
A thermistor fault - the temperature sensor circuit. Official first step is a reset; a returning tE1 is a sensor-circuit repair.
Inside the door opening on the front panel - open the door and photograph the label.
Yes - DLHC heat-pump compacts, where filters and the condensate path replace the vent as the first diagnosis.
PS points to a voltage or wiring problem. The most common cause after a move is the power cord's white and red wires being reversed at the dryer's terminal block. It can also mean the outlet isn't delivering proper 240 V. Unplug the dryer and have the connection checked. Terminal block work involves live-circuit wiring, so we don't advise doing it yourself.
An intermittent thermistor, a loose wire at the heater or terminal block, or a high-limit thermostat cycling off because airflow is poor. LG's tE codes point to the thermistor. We test each part at operating temperature, because an intermittent fault can pass a cold resistance check.
Only for steam models. Eastern Chula Vista gets Otay water, reported at 9.4 grains per gallon on average in 2025, and the west side gets Sweetwater Authority water at 193 mg/L. Both are hard. On LG steam dryers, mineral scale can affect the steam supply parts over time, so we check them when steam cycles stop working.
At least once a year, and sooner if you see a D75 or higher code or cycles getting longer. A larger family runs more loads, so lint builds faster. Pet hair speeds it further. A clean vent also keeps the thermal fuse from tripping and the heater from running hot.
