LG washers
LG washers built their reputation on the inverter direct-drive motor - and on a code dialect that LG documents plainly: IE for fill, OE for drain, UE for balance, LE for a locked motor. Front-loaders, top-loaders and the all-in-one WashCombo all speak it, and most codes come with an official owner step before service.
A photo of the model label and the complete installation helps the team understand the configuration before the visit.

10-year motor warranty and no belt - the platform's signature.
Start with the symptom
A symptom narrows the inspection; it does not identify the failed component. The $99 visit confirms the actual fault on the exact model before any repair is authorized.
The OE order: hose, pump filter, pump - most drain calls end at the filter.
UE territory: load, leveling and suspension - checked as a system.
IE order: taps, hose, screens, valve.
Lock timing and drain state - never forced.
Gasket and tub-clean routine - maintenance before parts, honestly.
The heat-pump side's filters and condensate path - its own discipline.
Series and model numbers
One dialect from budget to SIGNATURE: the code names the subsystem, the model from the door label names the parts.
Model label
The model and serial label is inside the door opening on the cabinet rim on front-loaders, and under the lid or on the rear control panel on top-loaders. Photograph it with the code displayed. Photograph the complete label — the full model and serial identify parts and production year better than the series name alone.
Indicators and alerts
For any message not shown, use the manual for the exact model rather than a generic list.
LG diagnostics
All meanings verified against LG USA's official washer error-code lists for front- and top-load machines. CL is documented as a feature and treated as one. Codes vary slightly by generation - the door-label model settles any ambiguity.
Preventive service and owner care
Alpha Pro provides preventive and general maintenance for LG washers. The appliance design determines which procedures are accessible and appropriate.
Owner maintenance
Professional maintenance
A professional visit can evaluate accessible systems without assuming every procedure applies to every model.
Diagnosis before parts
Call or book with the model label, exact behavior, any displayed codes, photos, and access notes.
The technician examines the reported condition in context: fill, drain, spin, balance, leaks, controls, and relevant components.
Findings and proposed work are explained before repair proceeds. The residential diagnostic is credited toward an approved repair.
Service area and operating context
Poway sits in the hills off I-15 - ranch properties of Old Poway, gated Green Valley, newer streets off Espola Road. Garage refrigerators fight summer heat, canyon dust clogs condensers, and hard water leaves scale in ice makers and washer valves.
Inland heat and hard water set the pattern here: garage refrigerators work hardest in summer, dust clogs condensers, and scale builds in ice makers, dishwashers and washer valves.
During maintenance, accessible metal surfaces can be inspected for corrosion, moisture exposure, or conditions that may warrant attention. Location alone does not establish the cause of a failure.
A better repair decision
There is no honest universal age or price threshold. Start with the exact model and a diagnosis.
Local notes · Poway
Poway calls itself the City in the Country, and its laundry shows it. With more than 78 miles of city trails where horses have priority, washers here handle mud, hay and barn dust that coastal machines rarely see, on top of hair from any dog or cat in the house. Households average 2.9 people, most homes are single-family, and the water averages 236 mg/L of hardness. An LG front loader in a Poway garage works hard, and its drain pump filter is where much of that grime ends up.
About 76% of Poway's housing is single-family, and most of it was built between 1970 and 1999. Four-bedroom homes make up about 39% of the stock, and households average 2.9 people. That means big, frequent loads, and on equestrian properties they are dirty ones: barn clothes, saddle pads and muddy trail gear. Grit and hay fragments sink to the sump and gather in the LG drain pump filter along with ordinary lint. Pet fur behaves differently. It floats, wraps around debris and forms a felt-like plug, and it also lodges in the door gasket folds. The water adds scale. The City of Poway's 2024 report averaged 236 mg/L in the distribution system, about 13.8 grains per gallon, while the City's FAQ puts it at 15.8 grains. Either figure is very hard. Inlet screens slowly close up, and LG's IE code follows. Garages are a common laundry spot in homes of this size and age, and Poway's hot season runs roughly from July 1 to late September, with August highs averaging 84 F. A closed garage in that heat is hard on rubber supply hoses, so check them for bulges and cracks.
Symptom: OE code, murky water left in the drum and a sour smell from the sump. Cause: Hay, arena grit and pet hair collect in the drain pump filter and bind into a dense mat. The pump then starves for water, or its impeller wears. Fix: We clear the filter and sump, flush the hose and test the pump. Brushing barn clothes and dog blankets before washing cuts down on repeat clogs.
Symptom: UE code, spin stops and the washer thumps. Cause: A single heavy item such as a horse blanket or saddle pad can't be balanced. Recurring UE with ordinary loads points to worn dampers or a Hall-sensor fault. Fix: Wash bulky items with towels to balance them, level the washer on the garage slab, and replace the dampers if they have lost resistance.
Symptom: The motor hums, the drum jerks or sits still, and LE or CE appears. Cause: A failed Hall sensor, stator winding, loose rotor bolt or motor harness, with the main board as a less common cause. Fix: We test each part in turn. LG's 10-year warranty on the stator, rotor and Hall sensor covers parts only; labor is billable.
Symptom: The drum takes too long to fill and the cycle stops with IE. Cause: Scale on the inlet screens from 236 mg/L water, a kinked hose or a failing inlet valve. Fix: We descale the screens, check supply pressure and replace the inlet valve if it sticks or no longer opens fully.
LG's schedule is monthly for the drain pump filter and Tub Clean, and more often with heavy use. Barn laundry and pets both count as heavy use. Brush or shake dirt and hay off clothes outside, and use a lint roller or pet-hair brush on dog bedding before it goes in. Keep detergent at the HE dose, because extra soap binds with hair and holds it in the gasket. Washing barn clothes in their own load keeps grit away from everyday laundry.
Most visits are to single-family homes with garage or laundry-room installs, and some are on ranch properties reached by long driveways or unpaved roads. Tell us about gates, animals that need to be secured and where to park a service vehicle. Clear a few feet in front of the washer so it can be pulled out, and have the model and serial number and the error code ready. If the drum is full of dirty water, leave it; we drain it through the pump filter as part of the diagnosis.
Pumps, filters, dampers, inlet valves and door locks are routine fixes, and motor faults such as a failed Hall sensor or stator are routine as well. The harder call is a failed bearing on a washer eight or more years old, where tub labor can approach the price of a new machine. Washers are commonly cited to last 10 to 15 years. We start with a $99 diagnostic that is credited toward the repair.

Yes. It is non-refundable and credited toward the total repair cost if you proceed. There are no residential exceptions.
A 90-day labor warranty and a 1-year parts warranty, both starting on the date the repair is completed.
No. A symptom narrows the search, but the diagnostic visit on the exact model confirms the actual fault before any repair is authorized.
Officially a drain failure - the machine could not empty in its window. Check the hose and clean the pump filter first; a persisting OE is a pump diagnosis.
An unbalanced load - officially often the laundry itself. If UE recurs with reasonable loads, leveling and suspension get tested.
Not necessarily: LE means the motor cannot turn the drum, and overloads or trapped objects cause it too. The drum is checked before the motor is judged.
Inside the door opening on the cabinet rim - or under the lid on top-loaders.
Yes - the WM6998 heat-pump combo, where washer codes and the ventless drying path are diagnosed in one visit.
Check the washer's capacity and the blanket maker's care label first. Brush off hair, hay and mud outside, balance the blanket with towels, and clean the drain pump filter right afterward. A single heavy, wet item is a classic cause of UE unbalance codes and adds strain to the dampers.
Fur floats during the wash and is carried toward the door boot and drain as water pumps out. Some catches in the gasket folds and the rest reaches the pump filter. Remove loose hair from bedding before washing, wipe the folds after the last load, and clean the filter more often.
Both figures come from the City. The 2024 water quality report averaged 236 mg/L, about 13.8 grains, in the distribution system, and an undated City FAQ says 15.8. Either way it is very hard, so inlet screens and heater-equipped models need periodic descaling.
Yes. Tell us about gates, loose animals and the best place to park when you book. If the laundry is in a barn or outbuilding, describe the power and water setup so we arrive with the right parts and tools.
