Why a Miele dishwasher holds water
Standing water in a Miele usually starts at the filter combination in the bottom of the tub. Food, labels, glass or seeds collect there and in the drain pump area under it. A blocked filter or a jammed drain pump impeller is the most common reason the cycle stops with a drain fault message.
If the filters are clean, check for a kinked drain hose or a clogged air gap or sink connection; a new garbage disposal with its knock-out plug still in place is a classic cause. A drain pump that hums but does not move water, or a fault that returns after clearing, needs a technician. San Diego hard water and scale make pump and sensor problems more common.
