The front panel of the freezer column was running noticeably hot to the touch, the unit wasn't holding temperature, and the display was throwing an alarm error.
What we found
The condenser coils were completely clogged. With airflow blocked, the compressor was running overheated, the kind of stress that can burn out a compressor if it isn't caught in time. That overheating was also what made the front panel hot to the touch. Temperature checks at the compressor confirmed it was running well above normal.

Ice: low or no production
Symptom: Little ice, or none. Normal output is about 70 to 120 cubes per 24 hours. Cause: A jam in the measuring arm, the shovel in the bin, the bin detection switch, low pressure, a warm freezer, a clogged filter, or the ice maker switched off. Fix: Clear jams, seat the bin, replace the filter; then we test the water valve and ice maker module.
Water: slow dispenser or flashing filter light
Symptom: Weak flow, or the filter symbol keeps flashing. Cause: Filter cap marks not aligned, a partly closed shut-off, a kinked line, an old or counterfeit filter, or an incomplete reset. Fix: Use a genuine filter aligned correctly; some models reset with ICE held 3 seconds. We then check the inlet valve and line.
Power and odor: dark display or smell
Symptom: No display and no cooling, or a lasting odor. Cause: Main switch off, tripped breaker or dead outlet; unsealed food or a spent carbon filter. New units may smell for 24 hours. Fix: Check switch and breaker, then we test boards. Replace the carbon odor filter for smells.
