True freezers
True freezer columns and undercounter freezers carry the commercial DNA of the brand: stainless interiors, forced-air cooling and plain-language alarm statuses. The freezer alarm threshold is honest - one hour above 32°F and the control tells you.
A photo of the model label and the complete installation helps the team understand the configuration before the visit.
24, 30 and 36-inch built-in freezer columns matching the refrigerator columns.
24-inch undercounter freezer, solid or overlay panel door.
24-inch freezer drawers for island installs.
The freezer circuit of the 42/48-inch side-by-sides - its own compressor and evaporator.
Start with the symptom
A symptom narrows the inspection; it does not identify the failed component. The $99 visit confirms the actual fault on the exact model before any repair is authorized.
Condenser airflow and defrost first - the honest order before sealed-system work.
Defrost heater, probe or drain - the pattern tells which.
Freezer drawers carry weight; slides and gaskets are real service items.
Forced-air fans and condenser condition - commercial-style and fully serviceable.
Temperature cycling or door seal - diagnosed from the alarm history.
Alarms latch to tell the story - photograph before clearing.
Series and model numbers
The full model string from the gray serial tag - hinge, finish and revision letter included - decides the parts book.
Model label
The gray serial tag sits on the interior wall, top left; True's official serial-tag locator PDF maps every model. Photograph the complete label — the full model and serial identify parts and production year better than the series name alone.
Indicators and alerts
For any message not shown, use the manual for the exact model rather than a generic list.
True diagnostics
True freezers report plain-language statuses, not numeric codes - per True's official service manual. Commercial-line P1/E1 tables online do not apply to residential units.
Preventive service and owner care
Alpha Pro provides preventive and general maintenance for True freezers. The appliance design determines which procedures are accessible and appropriate.
Owner maintenance
Professional maintenance
A professional visit can evaluate accessible systems without assuming every procedure applies to every model.
Diagnosis before parts
Call or book with the model label, exact behavior, any displayed codes, photos, and access notes.
The technician examines the reported condition in context: temperatures, frost pattern, airflow, defrost behavior, controls, and relevant components.
Findings and proposed work are explained before repair proceeds. The residential diagnostic is credited toward an approved repair.
Service areas and operating context
Alpha Pro serves True freezers in communities including La Jolla, Del Mar, Rancho Santa Fe, Carmel Valley, Poway, and the full San Diego County footprint below — ZIP by ZIP. Installation and room conditions vary from the coast to inland homes.
Recurring condensation, marine exposure, ventilation limits, and visible corrosion can be useful details during repair or maintenance.
Share room conditions, recent heat events, ventilation restrictions, and when the symptom appears.
During maintenance, accessible metal surfaces can be inspected for corrosion, moisture exposure, or conditions that may warrant attention. Location alone does not establish the cause of a failure.
A better repair decision
There is no honest universal age or price threshold. Start with the exact model and a diagnosis.
Local notes · San Diego County
True Manufacturing has built refrigeration in America since 1945, and its residential division, now called True Caliber, brings that work to home kitchens: column freezers, undercounter units, and the freezer sections of bottom-freezer and side-by-side models. Those freezers cool the same way wherever they're installed, but San Diego County doesn't treat them the same way. Coastal salt air, inland heat, windblown dust and a grid that strains in September all show up at the condenser. As an independent company, we repair True freezers across the county and adjust each diagnosis to where the unit lives.
The county covers more than 4,500 square miles, from the coast over the mountains to Anza-Borrego. Near the ocean, May Gray and June Gloom keep kitchens cool and damp, and salt corrodes condenser fins and fan bearings in homes like those in La Jolla and Point Loma. Five to fifteen miles inland the marine layer burns off. El Cajon averages nearly 89°F for an August high, with the hottest days near 100°F, and a garage freezer there works at the edge of what standard units are designed for. Santa Ana winds blow from September through April, carrying dust inland and dropping humidity to single digits; both load condenser coils. Poway's horse properties and Chula Vista's garage second freezers see versions of the same problem. Then there's power. During the September 2024 heat wave, SDG&E set a record peak of 5,032 MW and thousands of customers lost service. Outages thaw freezers, and voltage sags stress compressors and controls. Water hardness, about 9 to 16 grains per gallon across local utilities, matters only if your True unit has an ice maker or dispenser; the freezer itself is an air-side machine.
Symptom: Soft food, hot air at the grille and long run times, worse on hot days or in garages. Cause: A fouled condenser (dust, pet hair, salt film, ash), blocked clearance or a slow condenser fan; occasionally low refrigerant. Fix: Clean the coil and fan, restore clearance and test the fan motor; if temperatures stay high, move on to sealed-system tests. Low cost for most causes.
Symptom: Frost behind the evaporator cover, weak airflow at the vents, water under the unit after a thaw. Cause: A defrost heater, termination thermostat, timer or control failure, a frozen drain, or a leaking gasket flooding the system with moisture. Fix: Full defrost, test each part in the circuit, replace what failed, clear the drain and check the gasket. Mid-range cost.
Symptom: The compressor clicks on and off every few minutes or hums without starting. Cause: A start relay or overload failure, low voltage from shared circuits or extension cords, or a failed compressor. Fix: Test relay, overload, windings and supply voltage. Relay and outlet fixes are low cost; a compressor is sealed-system work for an EPA-certified technician.
Symptom: A code, a flashing temperature or an alarm tone. Cause: We haven't verified a published True Caliber code table, so we don't guess from a list. The alarm usually traces to one of the causes above or to a sensor. Fix: Note the exact display and model number; we test sensors and control inputs against the service data for your unit.
The trade baseline for a True freezer is a condenser cleaning every six months. From there, adjust. Oceanfront homes shorten it for salt. Inland garages and dusty properties shorten it for heat and dust. Homes with pets add a monthly grille vacuum. Keep the freezer at 0°F, confirmed with an appliance thermometer, and never chip ice with a knife or screwdriver, since you can puncture tubing. Before Santa Ana season and the September heat, do a full cleaning, and check the gasket while you're there.
When you call, we'll ask where the unit is installed, since a high-rise condo, a gated estate or a backcountry property each changes the visit. Tell us about elevators, gate codes and parking. On site, the technician takes temperatures, checks airflow and the condenser, and works through defrost, electrical and control tests before any sealed-system work. Have the model and serial number and a note on symptoms and timing ready. City-specific details are on our La Jolla, Poway and Chula Vista pages.
Three factors decide it. First, the fit: True column and undercounter freezers are sized to cabinetry and often carry custom panels, so a replacement adds installation work. Second, the failure: fans, relays, gaskets, sensors and defrost parts are low to mid cost and almost always worth fixing. Third, the sealed system: a leak or compressor failure on an older unit is the one case where replacement may win, especially if heat or salt has worn the rest of the unit. The $99 diagnostic, credited toward the repair, settles it.

Yes - same-day windows are offered across San Diego County subject to the day's schedule. Availability is confirmed for the exact address when you book.
Yes. It is non-refundable and credited toward the total repair cost if you proceed. There are no residential exceptions.
A 90-day labor warranty and a 1-year parts warranty, both starting on the date the repair is completed.
No. A symptom narrows the search, but the diagnostic visit on the exact model confirms the actual fault before any repair is authorized.
The cabinet spent an hour above 32°F. Keep the door closed and book promptly - the alarm exists to protect inventory, and the visit finds why it tripped.
It shows plain-language statuses - Refrigeration Error, probe failures, Door Ajar - rather than numbers. That is by design and verified against True's service manual.
On the gray tag on the interior wall, top left. Photograph the whole tag - hinge and revision letters route the parts.
No - it just requires the proper hydrocarbon procedure, which is part of the service standard for these units.
Yes - slides, gaskets and the cooling system are all diagnosable; drawer units get the same per-circuit approach.
No. We are independent and not authorized by True. Warranty repairs usually have to be done by the manufacturer's authorized servicer, so check your coverage first. Out of warranty, we repair True freezers anywhere in the county, and our work carries 90 days on labor and 1 year on parts.
We haven't verified a published code list for True Caliber freezers, so we don't post one. Your owner's manual or the manufacturer's site is the best source. Write down exactly what the display shows and send it with the model number; that helps us narrow the fault before the visit.
Only the parts that handle water. The refrigeration system is sealed and air-cooled. If your True unit has an ice maker or dispenser, local hard water, roughly 9 to 16 grains per gallon depending on your utility, scales inlet valves and fill tubes. Our True ice maker page covers that side.
FoodSafety.gov says a full freezer holds a safe temperature for about 48 hours with the door closed, and a half-full one about 24. Food that still has ice crystals or is at 40°F or below can be refrozen. If the freezer doesn't recover after power returns, call us.
