True wine cabinets
True wine cabinets run the same forced-air, stainless-interior platform as the brand's refrigerators - with wine-specific alarm thresholds. The control flags an hour above 70°F, and dual-zone models watch each zone separately.
A photo of the model label and the complete installation helps the team understand the configuration before the visit.
15 and 24-inch undercounter wine cabinets.
24-inch dual-zone cabinet - independent zone probes and alarms.
24, 30 and 36-inch dual-zone wine columns.
Undercounter wine units share the outdoor rating of the platform.
Start with the symptom
A symptom narrows the inspection; it does not identify the failed component. The $99 visit confirms the actual fault on the exact model before any repair is authorized.
The 70°F alarm pattern - condenser dust and door seal before anything expensive.
Zone probe or damper territory - documented and repairable.
Humidity versus door heater; persistent sweating risks labels.
Compressor mounts and shelf contact - sediment-sensitive collections deserve quiet.
Forced-air systems breathe through the front - kickplate airflow is checked first.
A large warm load can legitimately trip the alarm - the history tells the difference.
Series and model numbers
Wine models share the True control platform - dual-zone units simply duplicate the probes and alarms per zone.
Model label
The gray serial tag is on the interior wall, top left - photograph it whole; revision letters route parts. Photograph the complete label — the full model and serial identify parts and production year better than the series name alone.
Indicators and alerts
For any message not shown, use the manual for the exact model rather than a generic list.
True diagnostics
True wine cabinets use the same plain-language status dialect as the rest of True Residential - no numeric codes exist, per the official service manual. Wine-specific thresholds (70°F alarm) are built into the same control.
Preventive service and owner care
Alpha Pro provides preventive and general maintenance for True wine cabinets. The appliance design determines which procedures are accessible and appropriate.
Owner maintenance
Professional maintenance
A professional visit can evaluate accessible systems without assuming every procedure applies to every model.
Diagnosis before parts
Call or book with the model label, exact behavior, any displayed codes, photos, and access notes.
The technician examines the reported condition in context: zone temperatures, cooling behavior, humidity, door seal, controls, and relevant components.
Findings and proposed work are explained before repair proceeds. The residential diagnostic is credited toward an approved repair.
Service area and operating context
Poway sits in the hills off I-15 - ranch properties of Old Poway, gated Green Valley, newer streets off Espola Road. Garage refrigerators fight summer heat, canyon dust clogs condensers, and hard water leaves scale in ice makers and washer valves.
Inland heat and hard water set the pattern here: garage refrigerators work hardest in summer, dust clogs condensers, and scale builds in ice makers, dishwashers and washer valves.
During maintenance, accessible metal surfaces can be inspected for corrosion, moisture exposure, or conditions that may warrant attention. Location alone does not establish the cause of a failure.
A better repair decision
There is no honest universal age or price threshold. Start with the exact model and a diagnosis.
Local notes · Poway
Wine does not forgive heat. Bottles kept warm age faster and lose freshness, and Poway's hot season runs from about July into late September. Many homes here are large four-bedroom houses, and a wine cabinet may end up in a bonus room, game room or patio bar. Those spots are often warmer and dustier than the kitchen. A True wine unit is built to hold steady, but it depends on clean airflow and a room it can shed heat into. When either one is missing, the bottles pay for it.
Poway sits in an inland valley. August highs average 84 degrees, and the hot season lasts about three months. A wine cabinet has to move heat from inside the cabinet into the room around it. If that room is a sun-facing bonus room or a covered patio bar, the unit starts every cycle at a disadvantage. The compressor runs longer, the condenser runs hotter, and zone temperatures can wander by afternoon. Dust is the second pressure. Horse properties, arenas and dirt trails put fine grit and hay dust in the air, and pet hair adds to it. A built-in True wine unit breathes through its front grille near the floor, which is exactly where dust settles. Santa Ana winds, strongest inland and blowing from fall into spring, bring very dry air and more dust. Wildfire smoke is a real risk here too. Large parts of Poway were evacuated during the 2003 Cedar Fire and the 2007 Witch Creek Fire, and ash from any nearby fire settles on condenser fins. Salt air is not a factor this far inland, so the wear pattern is heat and grit rather than corrosion.
Symptom: The unit runs almost constantly and still can't hold its setpoint on warm afternoons. Cause: Dust, pet hair, trail grit or ash packed into the front grille and condenser. Fix: We remove the grille, clean the coil and fan thoroughly, and watch the unit through a full cycle to confirm it recovers.
Symptom: Reds too warm by late afternoon, or one zone several degrees off its setting. Cause: A zone fan wearing out under long run times, or a temperature sensor drifting. Fix: We check each zone with a reference probe, test the fans and sensors, and replace the part that is out of range.
Symptom: The compressor shuts off and restarts, or runs without cooling as both zones warm. Cause: Years of heat stress, a failed start relay, or a refrigerant leak. Fix: We test start components and compressor windings. Sealed-system repair is done only by EPA-certified technicians.
Symptom: Frost or droplets near the door edge, or the door that doesn't pull shut on its own. Cause: A worn or stiff gasket, or hinge alignment off from years of use. Fix: We adjust the hinge and door, then replace the gasket if it no longer seals evenly.
Plan maintenance around the seasons. Before July, clean the grille and condenser so the unit starts the hot season with full airflow. After any Santa Ana wind event or smoke week, check the grille again. If the cabinet sits in a room that gets afternoon sun, add shade to that window. For a patio bar, confirm the unit is rated for outdoor use; many wine cabinets are designed only for indoor rooms. A thermometer on the middle rack is the simplest early warning.
Many Poway homes sit on large lots, some with gates or private roads. Send directions and access details when you book, and let us know about loose dogs or horses near the driveway. If the cabinet is warm, move the most valuable bottles to the coolest interior room. Have the model and serial number from the rating label, the setpoints, what a thermometer reads, and the room temperature where the unit sits. That last detail helps us separate a heat problem from a parts problem.
For a compressor-based built-in wine cabinet, repair is usually the better value. True's build supports that, and most heat-and-dust failures, like fans, sensors, gaskets and dirty coils, are low-to-moderate fixes. A failed compressor on an older unit is the harder call. We'll lay out the options after the $99 diagnostic, which is credited to the repair if you go ahead.

We take requests across Poway (ZIP 92064, 92074). Share gate codes, parking or building access when booking so the technician can plan the visit.
Yes. It is non-refundable and credited toward the total repair cost if you proceed. There are no residential exceptions.
A 90-day labor warranty and a 1-year parts warranty, both starting on the date the repair is completed.
No. A symptom narrows the search, but the diagnostic visit on the exact model confirms the actual fault before any repair is authorized.
Short excursions rarely harm wine, but track the display and book promptly - the alarm means the zone spent an hour above 70°F.
Plain-language statuses only - zone probe failures, Refrigeration Error, Door Ajar. Numeric code lists online belong to True's commercial line.
Yes - each zone has its own probe and alarm, and the diagnosis is per-zone.
On the gray serial tag inside the cabinet, top left wall.
Undercounter models are UL outdoor-rated; the visit still verifies power, GFCI and ventilation - the usual outdoor failure points.
Only if the model is rated for outdoor use. Check the installation guide first. Indoor wine cabinets are not designed for outdoor heat and dust, and they struggle when the air around them is hot. If you already have one outside and it can't keep up, we can diagnose it.
It can. Ash is fine and sticky, and it settles on the condenser behind the grille. That cuts airflow and makes the compressor work harder. After a smoke event, unplug the unit, remove the grille and vacuum gently with a brush attachment, or have us clean it.
It depends on the model, and the installation guide lists the allowed range. As a rule, the warmer the room, the harder the unit works and the more its zones drift. Keep it in the coolest room that suits you, away from sun and heat sources.
Longer run times on hot days are normal. Nonstop running with temperatures still climbing is not. The usual causes are a dusty condenser, a weak fan or a sealed-system problem. Start by cleaning the grille. If that doesn't help within a day, call us.
