Dacor refrigeration
Modern Dacor refrigeration - DRF French doors, DRR and DRZ columns - speaks a Samsung-derived code dialect, while legacy Epicure built-ins used silent button-driven service tests. Knowing which generation is in the kitchen is half the diagnosis.
A photo of the model label and the complete installation helps the team understand the configuration before the visit.
36-48 inch built-in and counter-depth French door, panel-ready or stainless.
30 and 36-inch all-refrigerator and all-freezer panel-ready columns.
24-inch three-zone wine column and undercounter wine cellar.
Pre-Samsung 42 and 48-inch built-ins - service-test diagnostics, still repairable.
Start with the symptom
A symptom narrows the inspection; it does not identify the failed component. The $99 visit confirms the actual fault on the exact model before any repair is authorized.
The classic Cooling Off signature - showroom mode first, compressor conversation only after.
22E territory on the current platform - the fresh-food fan or its icing.
5E: an unmanaged defrost cycle. The sensor repair beats chipping ice.
Three-zone DRW units have independent circuits - inventory-priority scheduling.
Legacy units can wake inside service-test mode - a known quirk with a clean exit procedure.
Columns carry custom panels; hinge service is planned with the cabinetry in mind.
Series and model numbers
Dacor's current platform shares Samsung diagnostics; the legacy Epicure line hides everything behind service tests. The model prefix says which world the visit enters.
Model label
The model and serial numbers are on a label inside the refrigerator, on the interior wall of the compartment - per Dacor's own use-and-care manual for the current French-door line. Photograph the complete label — the full model and serial identify parts and production year better than the series name alone.
Indicators and alerts
For any message not shown, use the manual for the exact model rather than a generic list.
Dacor error codes
Dacor's official manuals document indicators rather than numeric codes; the codes above are confirmed on Dacor units by two independent repair references each. Conflicting or single-source codes (41E, 40E, 84E, 85E, and generic F0-F19 lists) are deliberately excluded. Legacy Epicure units have no public codes at all - they diagnose through built-in service tests.
Preventive service and owner care
Alpha Pro provides preventive and general maintenance for Dacor refrigeration systems. The appliance design determines which procedures are accessible and appropriate.
Owner maintenance
Professional maintenance
A professional visit can evaluate accessible systems without assuming every procedure applies to every model.
Diagnosis before parts
Call or book with the model label, exact behavior, temperature information, photos, and access notes.
The technician examines the reported condition in context: operation, airflow, water, controls, doors, installation, and relevant components.
Findings and proposed work are explained before repair proceeds. The residential diagnostic is credited toward an approved repair.
Service areas and operating context
Alpha Pro serves Dacor refrigeration in communities including La Jolla, Del Mar, Rancho Santa Fe, Carmel Valley, Poway, and the full San Diego County footprint below — ZIP by ZIP. Installation and room conditions vary from the coast to inland homes.
Recurring condensation, marine exposure, ventilation limits, and visible corrosion can be useful details during repair or maintenance.
Share room conditions, recent heat events, ventilation restrictions, and when the symptom appears.
During maintenance, accessible metal surfaces can be inspected for corrosion, moisture exposure, or conditions that may warrant attention. Location alone does not establish the cause of a failure.
A better repair decision
There is no honest universal age or price threshold. Start with the exact model and a diagnosis.
Local notes · San Diego County
Dacor refrigeration covers several formats: integrated column units built into cabinetry, French door models and side-by-side designs, along with wine and undercounter units. Since Samsung Electronics America acquired Dacor under a 2016 agreement, newer Dacor refrigerators are Samsung-developed, with inverter compressors and electronic controls. Older units follow different designs. This county page explains how those platforms fail, how coastal and inland conditions change the picture, what the warranty covers and when repair makes sense. Our city pages go deeper on each local climate.
A refrigerator responds to the room it sits in and the water it receives, and both vary widely across San Diego County. On the coast, the marine layer keeps air cool and damp from May into August, and salt in that air corrodes condenser fins and fan connectors; our La Jolla page covers the coastal pattern. Inland, the hottest days reach about 100 degrees, and El Cajon's August average high is 88.6 degrees versus 77.3 at Lindbergh Field. Hot kitchens raise run time, and Santa Ana winds from September to April add dust to condenser coils; see our Poway page. Water is hard nearly everywhere. The 2025 reports show 237 to 243 mg/L for the City of San Diego, 206 mg/L for Helix, 193 mg/L for Sweetwater and 9.4 grains per gallon for Otay, with a practical county range of about 9 to 16 grains at the tap. That hardness scales ice maker valves and shortens filter life. Heat waves also stress the grid; SDG&E hit a record 5,032 MW peak on Sept 8, 2024, and power problems can upset electronic controls and thaw freezers.
Symptom: Warm compartments with the unit running, or a silent compressor on a newer model. Cause: An evaporator fan failure, a defrost failure blocking airflow, or on Samsung-era units the inverter compressor or its drive board. Fix: We test the fan, defrost system and inverter board before condemning the compressor. Display codes vary by model and we verify them in service mode.
Symptom: No ice, ice buildup around the maker or a frozen fill tube. Cause: A frozen fill tube, a failed ice maker or a defrost issue; hard water scale restricts the valve. Fix: We clear the tube, test the valve and ice maker and correct any defrost problem.
Symptom: Frost on the evaporator panel and gradually rising temperatures. Cause: An open heater, a failed sensor or a control board that no longer starts defrost. A clogged defrost drain can also let meltwater refreeze. Fix: We manually defrost, test each component and replace the failed one.
Symptom: An integrated door does not seal; condensation or frost at the edge. Cause: Hinge or panel adjustment has shifted under the weight of the panel. Heavy daily use and loaded door bins add strain over the years. Fix: We realign the hinges and panel and replace the gasket if damaged.
Every Dacor refrigerator benefits from the same two tasks: a clean condenser and a fresh filter. Clean the condenser every six to twelve months, more often with pets or dust, and replace the water filter about every six months. Keep vent clearances as the installation manual requires. Never chip ice off the evaporator with a sharp tool, which is a common cause of punctured evaporators. Coastal owners should also wipe salt film from hinges and trim. Check the ice maker after any outage.
We cover coastal towns, inland valleys and the South Bay. Integrated models are repaired in place, so we need access to the grille and toe kick rather than the whole cabinet. Mention HOA gates, condo elevator bookings or long drives when you call. Have the model and serial number from the interior label ready, along with the symptom, when it began and any display message. If the unit is warm, move perishables to a cooler before we arrive.
Dacor lists a two-year full warranty on units bought on or after November 1, 2020. The sealed system carries six years of parts and labor, and purchases after April 1, 2026 get ten years of parts including the compressor. Check coverage before paying for sealed-system work. Out of warranty, fans, defrost parts, valves and ice makers are routine repairs. For older units with a failed compressor, weigh repair against a built-in replacement and the cabinetry it requires. The $99 diagnostic is credited toward the repair.
Helpful answers
Clear preparation makes a service request easier to evaluate.
Yes - same-day windows are offered across San Diego County subject to the day's schedule. Availability is confirmed for the exact address when you book.
Yes. It is non-refundable and credited toward the total repair cost if you proceed. There are no residential exceptions.
A 90-day labor warranty and a 1-year parts warranty, both starting on the date the repair is completed.
No. A symptom narrows the search, but the diagnostic visit on the exact model confirms the actual fault before any repair is authorized.
That is Cooling Off (showroom) mode - fans and lights run, compressors are disabled by design. The documented button hold exits it; if cooling still does not return, book the visit.
A freezer fan fault - iced over, failed, or a damaged harness. Ice removal quiets it briefly; the motor test at the visit settles it.
It has powered up in its service-test mode (showroom display). Do not press buttons at random - the technician exits the mode properly and checks why it engaged.
On a label inside the refrigerator on the interior wall of the compartment - photograph it in full; the L/R in column numbers is the hinge side.
Yes - EF/IF built-ins and DTF freestanding units are serviced through their button-driven service tests, exactly as Dacor's service literature specifies.
Yes. Post-2016 Dacor refrigerators are Samsung-developed, following Samsung Electronics America's acquisition of Dacor. That means inverter compressors and electronic controls on many models, which change how we diagnose cooling problems. Older Dacor refrigerators use earlier designs, so the model number tells us which approach applies.
Not one we can rely on across all models. Samsung-era units may share Samsung-style codes, but that is not confirmed for every Dacor model. We read the display, run the service diagnostics and test parts rather than relying on a code alone.
Dacor lists six years of parts and labor on the sealed system. For purchases after April 1, 2026, parts coverage including the compressor extends to ten years. Check your purchase date and registration before paying for sealed-system work. We can help you read the label and paperwork.
Often, yes. Coastal units see more corrosion on condenser fins and connectors from salt air. Inland units face longer run times in hot kitchens and dust on the condenser. Hard water affects ice makers almost everywhere in the county. Our city pages explain each pattern in more detail.
