Fisher & Paykel cooktops
Fisher & Paykel's induction cooktops publish a real fault-code table in their own user guides: E2 for an overheated zone, the Er-series for electronics, U400 for a wrong connection. The gas CG cooktops stay mechanical and code-free. Two dialects, both honest - and both serviced by the book.
A photo of the model label and the complete installation helps the team understand the configuration before the visit.
30 and 36-inch induction tops (CI304DTB4, CI365DTB4) with SmartZone and Touch&Slide.
The 12-inch domino induction top for paired installs.
CG-series gas-on-glass and pro cooktops - sealed burners, no codes.
The induction sections of OR- and RIV-series ranges speak the same dialect.
Start with the symptom
A symptom narrows the inspection; it does not identify the failed component. The $99 visit confirms the actual fault on the exact model before any repair is authorized.
Ferromagnetic base and size first, zone electronics second - the honest order.
Surges upset the electronics - restart per the guide, then diagnosis if it returns.
Under-counter ventilation matters - the code documents overheat honestly.
Moisture and cap seating - dry and reseat before assuming parts.
Clean, dry glass first; the touch circuit second.
Stop using the top; replacement is quoted honestly against unit value.
Series and model numbers
The CI machines speak the documented code table; the CG machines speak through burners. The model prefix routes the visit.
Model label
The data plate is on the underside of the cooktop, reached from the cabinet below; the user guide's cover sheet usually repeats the model. Photograph the complete label — the full model and serial identify parts and production year better than the series name alone.
Indicators and alerts
For any message not shown, use the manual for the exact model rather than a generic list.
Fisher & Paykel diagnostics
The induction table comes from Fisher & Paykel's own user guides and support articles, and matches the European induction-module dialect used across the industry. Gas tops have no codes - stated plainly.
Preventive service and owner care
Alpha Pro provides preventive and general maintenance for Fisher & Paykel cooktops. The appliance design determines which procedures are accessible and appropriate.
Owner maintenance
Professional maintenance
A professional visit can evaluate accessible systems without assuming every procedure applies to every model.
Diagnosis before parts
Call or book with the model label, exact behavior, any displayed codes, photos, and access notes.
The technician examines the reported condition in context: ignition or zone behavior, controls, surfaces, installation, and relevant components.
Findings and proposed work are explained before repair proceeds. The residential diagnostic is credited toward an approved repair.
Service areas and operating context
Alpha Pro serves Fisher & Paykel cooktops in communities including La Jolla, Del Mar, Rancho Santa Fe, Carmel Valley, Poway, and the full San Diego County footprint below — ZIP by ZIP. Installation and room conditions vary from the coast to inland homes.
Recurring condensation, marine exposure, ventilation limits, and visible corrosion can be useful details during repair or maintenance.
Share room conditions, recent heat events, ventilation restrictions, and when the symptom appears.
During maintenance, accessible metal surfaces can be inspected for corrosion, moisture exposure, or conditions that may warrant attention. Location alone does not establish the cause of a failure.
A better repair decision
There is no honest universal age or price threshold. Start with the exact model and a diagnosis.
Local notes · San Diego County
Fisher & Paykel cooktops come in several forms: sealed-burner gas tops, many with professional-style burners that trace back to the brand's purchase of DCS, induction models with touch controls, and professional rangetops. In San Diego County we see all of them, in coastal condos, inland family homes and hillside estates. Each type fails in its own way, and the county's climate decides which weak point shows up first. This page covers the brand, the platform differences, the faults we fix most and the local conditions behind them. City pages for Chula Vista, La Jolla and Poway go further.
San Diego County stretches across roughly 4,526 square miles and several climates, and a cooktop's two main weak points, ignition on gas and cooling on induction, respond to them differently. Along the coast, the May Gray and June Gloom marine layer keeps air cool and damp for much of the summer, and salt air reaches kitchens nearest the ocean. Damp electrodes leak spark and cause clicking, and salt slowly corrodes electrodes and spark terminals. Five to fifteen miles inland the marine layer gives way to sun. El Cajon's August mean daily high is 88.6 F, with the hottest days typically near 100 F, and September heat waves have pushed SDG&E to record demand, including a 5,032 MW peak on September 8, 2024. Hot kitchens shrink the cooling margin for induction power boards, and power sags during heat events are hard on electronics. Santa Ana winds, about ten days a year between September and April, bring very dry air and dust inland, which clogs induction cooling fans. Wildfire smoke can leave ash in burner ports. Housing varies just as much, from coastal high-rise condos to 2000s master-planned homes and estate properties, and that affects how much cabinet space an induction unit has to breathe.
Symptom: Burners click with the flame on or with all knobs off, or they do not spark at all. Cause: A wet or dirty electrode, a misaligned burner cap, moisture in an igniter switch, or a failed spark module. Salt air corrodes electrodes and terminals near the coast. Fix: Dry and reseat burner parts first. We replace failed switches, electrodes or the spark module.
Symptom: The pan symbol flashes and the zone stays cold. Cause: Cookware that is not ferromagnetic, too small, warped or off-center. Less often, a failed coil or power board. Fix: Test with a pan a magnet grips firmly. If that fails, we diagnose the coil and board.
Symptom: Zones shut down mid-cook, the fan is loud, or zones are dead with an F, E, A or U code. Cause: Blocked cooling air under the cooktop, a fan clogged with dust or pet hair, or a power board damaged by heat in tight cabinetry. Code meanings are model-specific in the user guide. Fix: Clear the air path, clean or replace the fan, and replace the board if it has failed. We verify venting against the install guide.
Symptom: The control panel ignores input or stays locked. Cause: Control lock engaged, water or a spill on the glass, or a failed user-interface board. Fix: Dry the glass and check the lock. If input still fails, we test the interface board and its ribbon connection and replace what has failed.
Fisher & Paykel began in New Zealand and has been majority-owned by Haier since 2012, the same parent as GE Appliances, and its connected products use the SmartHQ app. The company bought US maker Dynamic Cooking Systems in 2004 and the Italian cooking business Elba in 2006, and it manufactures in Thailand, China, Italy and Mexico. That mix means cooktops from different eras have quite different parts, so the model number matters for every repair. Care is straightforward and varies mainly by where you live.
We work in condos, family homes, rentals and estates across the county. Share gate, HOA and parking details when you book, and clear the cabinet beneath the cooktop, since many repairs are made from below. Have the model and serial number and a photo of any code ready. If you smell gas or hear hissing near an appliance, leave immediately and call SDG&E at 1-800-411-7343 or 911 from a safe spot. Do not use switches, phones or flames inside. We are an independent service company that repairs Fisher & Paykel cooktops outside the manufacturer's service network.
Stovetops are commonly cited as lasting 15 to 18 years. Within that span, most repairs make sense: igniter switches, electrodes, spark modules, fans and interface boards sit in the low to middle cost range. The expensive combination is an induction power board plus glass damage on an older unit, which can approach replacement cost. On gas professional-style units, burner and ignition parts are usually worth replacing. Cutout size also counts, because a new cooktop has to fit the existing opening. The $99 diagnostic is credited toward the repair.
Helpful answers
Clear preparation makes a service request easier to evaluate.
Yes - same-day windows are offered across San Diego County subject to the day's schedule. Availability is confirmed for the exact address when you book.
Yes. It is non-refundable and credited toward the total repair cost if you proceed. There are no residential exceptions.
A 90-day labor warranty and a 1-year parts warranty, both starting on the date the repair is completed.
No. A symptom narrows the search, but the diagnostic visit on the exact model confirms the actual fault before any repair is authorized.
The zone overheated - officially documented, and classically an empty or boiled-dry pan. Let it cool; recurring E2 under normal use means sensor and ventilation diagnosis.
The official electronics series - Er13, Er21, Er22, Er31, Er35, Er47 and kin. The guide's advice is restart first; a returning code is a service visit with platform parts.
Over-voltage from a wrong electrical connection - an installation fault. The fix is correcting the hookup, not replacing boards.
On the underside of the cooktop, from the cabinet below.
No - they are mechanical with electric ignition, and diagnosis is direct: spark, valves, caps.
Fisher & Paykel induction cooktops use F, E, A and U codes, and the meaning depends on the model. The user guide for your model lists them. Photograph the code and note the model number before resetting, so the technician can look it up for your exact unit.
Yes. Fisher & Paykel bought Dynamic Cooking Systems, the US maker behind DCS, in 2004, and many of its gas cooktops use professional-style burners derived from DCS designs. That history helps when identifying parts on older and newer units. Bring the model number when you call.
Generally, yes. Near the coast, damp air and salt mainly affect gas ignition parts. Inland, heat and dust are harder on induction cooling fans and power boards. The repairs overlap, but prevention focuses on different parts. Pets and smoke events add to the inland load.
Induction cooktops create a magnetic field near the cooking surface. People with pacemakers or other implants are usually advised to check with their physician and read the manufacturer's manual before using one. We can service the cooktop, but that decision belongs with the doctor.
