Frigidaire cooktops
Frigidaire cooktops run three honest platforms: knob-controlled gas and electric coil tops with no electronics to speak of, radiant smoothtops with touch controls, and Gallery induction. Only the electronic tops show codes - and Frigidaire officially documents the ones that matter, starting with the F40/F41 lockout.
A photo of the model label and the complete installation helps the team understand the configuration before the visit.

Smoothtop radiant cooktops with touch or knob controls.
Gallery-tier 30 and 36-inch induction tops - the most electronic of the line.
RC and FFEC coil-and-radiant park still installed all over San Diego.
Start with the symptom
A symptom narrows the inspection; it does not identify the failed component. The $99 visit confirms the actual fault on the exact model before any repair is authorized.
Moisture under the caps and electrode condition first - the classic after-cleaning call.
Element, limiter and switch path - split by direct testing.
Pan material and diameter first, zone electronics second - the honest order.
Touch panel and lockout state - the F40/F41 family's territory.
Stop using the top; glass replacement is quoted honestly against unit value.
Orifices and air shutters - conversion details matter on FFGC tops.
Series and model numbers
The first letters map the platform - and the platform decides whether the top can even show a code or only a symptom.
Model label
The serial plate is on the underside of the cooktop, reached from the cabinet below; many models add a duplicate on the burner-box side wall. Photograph the full plate before the visit. Photograph the complete label — the full model and serial identify parts and production year better than the series name alone.
Indicators and alerts
For any message not shown, use the manual for the exact model rather than a generic list.
Frigidaire diagnostics
F40/F41 and the control-lock dash come from Frigidaire's official owner-center error guide. Induction boards can flash additional E-patterns that Frigidaire does not decode publicly - those are read against service data on-site rather than guessed from blogs.
Preventive service and owner care
Alpha Pro provides preventive and general maintenance for Frigidaire cooktops. The appliance design determines which procedures are accessible and appropriate.
Owner maintenance
Professional maintenance
A professional visit can evaluate accessible systems without assuming every procedure applies to every model.
Diagnosis before parts
Call or book with the model label, exact behavior, any displayed codes, photos, and access notes.
The technician examines the reported condition in context: ignition or zone behavior, controls, surfaces, installation, and relevant components.
Findings and proposed work are explained before repair proceeds. The residential diagnostic is credited toward an approved repair.
Service area and operating context
Poway sits in the hills off I-15 - ranch properties of Old Poway, gated Green Valley, newer streets off Espola Road. Garage refrigerators fight summer heat, canyon dust clogs condensers, and hard water leaves scale in ice makers and washer valves.
Inland heat and hard water set the pattern here: garage refrigerators work hardest in summer, dust clogs condensers, and scale builds in ice makers, dishwashers and washer valves.
During maintenance, accessible metal surfaces can be inspected for corrosion, moisture exposure, or conditions that may warrant attention. Location alone does not establish the cause of a failure.
A better repair decision
There is no honest universal age or price threshold. Start with the exact model and a diagnosis.
Local notes · Poway
Poway kitchens deal with dust more than moisture. Dry Santa Ana winds, dirt roads that horses still use, barn and arena dust carried in on boots, and the ash that fell during the Cedar and Witch Creek fires all end up on and inside a cooktop. Add long, hot summers and a house full of people, about 2.9 per household on average, and the stove works hard. Most Frigidaire cooktops we see in Poway were installed in homes from the 1970s to the 1990s or replaced since. Here is how dust and heat show up in each type.
Poway sits in an inland valley, with a hot season that runs roughly from July to late September and August highs around 84 F. Humidity is low; Weather Spark counts almost no muggy days even in August. That dry air changes which cooktop parts suffer. Instead of corroded igniters, we find gas burner ports and spark gaps packed with fine dust and cooked-on grime, which cause uneven flames and slow lighting. Santa Ana winds, strongest inland between September and April, push grit through window screens and onto every surface. On equestrian properties, dust and hay debris come in on clothes and pets. Pet hair and dust matter most on induction cooktops, which rely on an internal cooling fan that pulls air from the cabinet below. When that fan clogs, the unit overheats and shuts down. Wildfire history counts too: major parts of Poway were evacuated in the 2003 Cedar Fire and 2007 Witch Creek Fire, and ash from smoke events settles into vents and controls. Hot kitchens also reduce the cooling margin of any electronic cooktop, especially one mounted over a wall oven.
Symptom: Flames lift, flicker yellow or light only on one side of the burner, and ignition takes several clicks. Cause: Dust, spills and debris clogging burner ports, a dirty igniter, or a cap that is not seated after cleaning. Fix: We clean the burner head and ports, reseat the cap, test spark and replace the igniter or module if needed. A persistent yellow flame gets a combustion check.
Symptom: On an induction model, a zone quits with an error code or the fan runs loud and hot. Cause: A cooling fan choked with dust or pet hair, a blocked air path in the cabinet below, or a failing fan or power board. Fix: We clear the air path, clean or replace the fan, and test the power board. We also check that the cabinet below is vented as the manual requires.
Symptom: A smoothtop zone glows on high whatever the knob says. Cause: A failed infinite switch, often after heat and spills have worn its contacts. Fix: We replace the switch and inspect wiring for heat damage. Owners should also check their model for open recalls on cpsc.gov.
Symptom: A coil element on an older electric cooktop stays cold or sparks at the connector. Cause: A burned-out element or a receptacle with loose, oxidized terminals. Fix: We replace the element and, if the terminals are scorched, the receptacle as well. We also check the wiring behind it for heat damage.
In Poway, cleaning is mostly about keeping dust out of the places that need air or a clear spark. Wipe the cooktop after windy days, not only after cooking. Keep pets and barn clothing away from the kitchen when you can. For induction models, keep the cabinet below open to airflow and free of stored items. After a wildfire smoke event, wipe down the top, knobs and any vents. If you smell gas, leave the house and call SDG&E from outside.
Tell us about gates, dogs, horses near the driveway and where to park, especially on private or dirt roads. Clear the counter and the cabinet below the cooktop so we can work from above and below. Have the model and serial number from the data plate or manual, and note whether the unit is gas, radiant, coil or induction. A photo of any code helps. For gas units, make sure the shutoff valve under the counter is reachable. Pets are best kept in another room while we work.
Igniters, switches, coil elements and receptacles are low-cost parts, so most Poway cooktop repairs are clearly worth doing. Induction power boards and cracked glass are the expensive exceptions and can approach the price of a new cooktop, so we quote them against replacement. On an older unit with several worn parts, replacement may be smarter. The $99 diagnostic is credited toward the repair.

Yes. It is non-refundable and credited toward the total repair cost if you proceed. There are no residential exceptions.
A 90-day labor warranty and a 1-year parts warranty, both starting on the date the repair is completed.
No. A symptom narrows the search, but the diagnostic visit on the exact model confirms the actual fault before any repair is authorized.
The official cooktop lockout code. Kill power at the breaker for 30 seconds per Frigidaire's procedure; if the code returns, the surface control board needs diagnosis.
The control lock is engaged - a feature, not a fault. Hold the lock pad about 6 seconds to release it.
No - they are mechanical with spark ignition. Diagnosis is direct: module, electrodes, valves and caps.
On the underside, reached from the cabinet below. Photograph the full plate - parts order by the complete model and serial.
The glass is replaceable as a part, and the quote is given honestly against the value of the unit before any work starts.
A yellow or lazy flame usually means burner ports are partly blocked by dust or grime, or the cap is not seated right. Clean the ports gently and dry them. If the flame stays yellow, have it checked, since poor combustion can raise carbon monoxide levels.
Not always. Induction units shut down to protect themselves if the cooling fan cannot move air. In dusty homes with pets, the fan and vents clog. Make sure the cabinet below is clear, then book a check if it keeps happening.
Yes, for gas cooktops especially. Ash and debris can settle in burners and vents, and gas service may have been shut off. Let SDG&E restore gas service, then have the cooktop inspected and cleaned before regular use. Keep caps and grates clean for a while afterward, since fine ash lingers.
Yes. Share directions for private or dirt roads, gate codes and anything about animals on the property when you book. That lets us plan parking and access so the visit goes smoothly. A working phone number for whoever will meet us at the gate also helps.
