The complaint
The washer was leaking, and the homeowner had stopped using it. A note on the machine asked the household not to run it until it was fixed.
What we found
Three separate problems were adding up to one leak:
Door gasket. Black mold had built up in the folds of the gasket, and the washer had a strong musty odor.
Detergent dispenser. It was dirty and needed cleaning.
Leveling. The washer was tilted forward, which caused a small leak on its own.

Replaced the door gasket (door boot).
Cleaned the detergent dispenser as part of general maintenance.
Re-leveled the washer so it sits level instead of tilting forward.
Why it matters
Front-load washer leaks rarely have a single cause. Replacing only the gasket would have left the forward tilt and the dirty dispenser in place, and the leak could have come back. A washer tilted forward can leak even with a new gasket.
