This parent page helps route a dedicated ice maker request. A symptom, feature name or brand link does not by itself identify a failed part or confirm support for every model, configuration or sealed-system repair.
Note whether the appliance fills, cycles or makes any ice at all. An empty bin alone does not identify the failed component.
Photograph the ice shape and note when it changed. Water supply, temperature, settings and internal components can produce similar symptoms.
Share roughly how much ice is produced over time and whether use patterns, room conditions or settings changed. Do not use a general production-rate claim as a diagnosis.
Note where water or ice appears and when it occurs. Avoid standing water near a cord, outlet or electrical component, and do not disconnect supply or drain lines.
Describe the sound or sequence and when it occurs. A noise alone does not prove a pump, motor, valve or control has failed.
Use existing paperwork or a safely visible label to identify the configuration. Do not pull out installed equipment or touch wiring, refrigerant lines, water lines, drains or mounting connections.
San Diego installations
Format determines parts, water paths and the service conversation—identify yours before the visit.
Built into the fridge or freezer door; the refrigerator model label is the one that identifies parts.
Dedicated units with their own water and drain lines—share how yours drains when scheduling.
Pump-driven models make restaurant-style ice and need periodic descaling, especially on hard water.
Mineral-heavy water scales water lines, valves and molds—cloudy or shrinking cubes often trace to scale. Descaling needs are confirmed at diagnosis before any work is authorized.
Safe owner checks
Do not touch the appliance, cord, outlet or standing water. If power or water can be isolated without approaching the hazard, follow the appliance instructions; otherwise keep away and request qualified help.
Do not reproduce the problem or touch the unit, cord, outlet or standing water. If there is fire, smoke or any doubt, leave the home and call 911.
Models and maintenance
A model-family name alone does not establish parts, code meanings or repair eligibility. Share the complete label and installation details before model-specific guidance is used.
Photograph the complete model and serial label only when it is visible without moving the ice maker, removing panels or reaching near wiring, refrigerant, water or drain connections.
Follow the matching owner guide for approved cleaning, filter and descaling procedures. Do not use a generic reset or unverified cleaning product as a diagnostic step.
Do not pull out installed equipment, chip ice with sharp tools or touch wiring, refrigerant, water, drain or mounting connections. Share known access and installation details when scheduling.
Our Work
Share the appliance, installation, model label and observed concern when requesting service.
The visit establishes the proposed repair scope. Review the estimate before authorizing work.
Work proceeds after approval. Any new scope requires separate approval before it is added.
Display messages
No general ice maker error-code library is linked from this parent page. Keep the complete message with the model label; do not transfer a definition or reset instruction between brands or models. Existing model-specific URLs are not treated as universal guidance.
If the concern is part of a refrigerator rather than a dedicated ice-making appliance, use the distinct refrigerator repair parent. The two pages are not duplicate targets.
Visit, pricing and warranty wording
The residential service visit / diagnostic fee is $99. It always applies, is non-refundable and is credited toward the total repair cost if you proceed. No exceptions.
The commercial service visit / diagnostic fee is $150 and is separate from residential pricing.
After diagnosis, review the proposed scope and estimate before authorizing repair work.
Review current pricing information90-day labor warranty.
1-year parts warranty.
Both terms begin on the date the repair is completed.
An online request starts scheduling; it does not by itself confirm an appointment or a model-specific repair outcome.

Clear-ice machines depend on rejecting minerals as they freeze. When the water system is overdue for cleaning or mineral content is high, the cubes turn white. With Lemon Grove's very hard water, cleaning at the short end of the schedule usually brings the clarity back. If it doesn't, water treatment may be worth considering.
Often the supply valve was left partly closed or the line got kinked. Low pressure means slow fills and small cubes, or no ice at all. Open the valve fully and check the line behind the fridge. If ice doesn't return within a day, the fill tube may have frozen, which we can clear.
Softer water reduces scale on valve screens and clear-ice freezing plates. Helix notes that poorly maintained softeners cause their own complaints, such as particles and discoloration, so keep one serviced if you install it. A good refrigerator filter changed on schedule also helps.
Follow the manual. Several makers require their own or a nickel-safe cleaner because other chemicals can damage the evaporator plating. The approved product also matches the timing of the machine's cleaning cycle. Discard the first batch of ice after cleaning.
Local notes · Lemon Grove
Lemon Grove's tap water is the main reason ice makers here slow down. Helix Water District's 2025 report puts its treated water at an average of 206 mg/L of hardness, about 12 grains per gallon, and readings reached 250 mg/L. That is very hard by the USGS scale, and an ice maker concentrates those minerals every time it freezes water. We repair refrigerator ice makers and standalone clear-ice and nugget machines, including units from Whirlpool, KitchenAid, GE, U-Line and Sub-Zero, and in this city most calls start with a clogged fill path.
About 99% of Lemon Grove's water is treated at the R.M. Levy plant in Lakeside, and in 2025 half of it came from the Colorado River, 29% from the State Water Project and the rest from local reservoirs. Helix's own FAQ says 10 grains per gallon counts as hard and that imported water averages around 14 grains. The treated supply ranged from 155 to 250 mg/L during 2025, so hardness shifts through the year. In a refrigerator, water passes a filter, a solenoid inlet valve with a fine mesh screen, and a plastic fill tube into the mold. Scale narrows that screen until the valve can't deliver a full charge in its timed fill, and the result is small or hollow crescents. A standalone clear-ice machine works differently: it recirculates water over a chilled plate so minerals stay in the water, then drains that mineral-rich water every cycle. With water this hard, scale coats the freezing plate and water system faster, sheets grow thin, and output drops. Lemon Grove summers add to the load. KitchenAid notes production falls when room temperature passes 90°F, and a hot garage bar or patio can reach that.
Symptom: Crescents come out thin, and the bin fills slowly. Cause: Scale on the inlet valve screen, an overdue filter, a partly closed saddle valve, or supply pressure below the 30 to 120 psi range the maker expects. Fix: We measure pressure, replace the filter, and install a new inlet valve if the screen is crusted.
Symptom: Output drops and the cleaning light may be on. Cause: Mineral buildup on the freezing plate, a dusty front condenser, or a loose drain cap that lets the water pan empty. Fix: Run the cleaning cycle with a nickel-safe cleaner, clean the condenser, and secure the drain cap.
Symptom: The freezer is cold, yet the ice maker produces nothing and the bin stays empty for days. Cause: A valve that drips slowly, or pressure so low that water trickles instead of filling, lets ice form inside the tube. Fix: We thaw the tube and replace the leaking valve so it doesn't refreeze.
Symptom: Water on the floor, an overflowing bin, or a machine that stops making ice because its pan won't refill correctly. Cause: Slime in the drain line, a stuck pump check valve, a failed pump, or a drain that isn't below the unit. Fix: Clear the drain and air gap, then clean or replace the pump.
Manufacturer intervals assume average water, and Lemon Grove's is not average. KitchenAid and affresh suggest cleaning clear-ice machines about every nine months or when the indicator lights; with Helix water, plan on the short end of that range. Use only a cleaner the maker approves, because nickel-plated evaporators can be damaged by the wrong chemical. For refrigerator ice makers the filter is your first defense, and changing it on time protects the valve screen. U-Line advises discarding the first harvest after cleaning.
Tell us if the ice maker is in a refrigerator or is a separate machine. Locate the water shutoff, usually under the sink or behind the fridge, and clear the cabinet so we can reach it. For undercounter units we need to see the drain connection. Photograph the model label and any cleaning light or code. If you have a whole-house softener or RO system, mention it; RO setups need 40 to 60 psi to feed an ice maker properly.
An in-fridge ice maker module is usually a low-cost swap, and the valve behind it is cheaper still. Standalone clear-ice machines generally earn a repair, since cutter grids, pumps, sensors and valves are all replaceable. Sealed-system trouble on an older undercounter unit is the exception where replacement often makes more sense. Since scale drives so many of these calls, we pair each repair with a cleaning plan.
