LG dishwashers
LG dishwashers report faults in a compact two-letter dialect that LG documents openly: IE for fill, OE for drain, AE for leaks, HE and tE for the heating side. The codes are direct-drive-era honest - each names a subsystem, and each has an official first step before anyone opens the machine.
A photo of the model label and the complete installation helps the team understand the configuration before the visit.

Top-control models adding TrueSteam and Dynamic Dry on the upper trims.
The STUDIO dishwashers with height-adjustable third rack and premium finishes.
LG's brushless wash motor - the platform's quiet, long-warranty heart.
Start with the symptom
A symptom narrows the inspection; it does not identify the failed component. The $99 visit confirms the actual fault on the exact model before any repair is authorized.
Heater, vent and rinse-aid dosing - the condensation-dry reality, tested in order.
The OE path: filter, sump, pump, hose - plus the air-gap check.
IE territory - valve, line, fill valve.
San Diego hard water versus detergent and rinse settings - adjusted before parts.
Latch and hinge tension on top-control doors - a mechanical fix.
The TrueSteam generator and its water path have their own service points.
Series and model numbers
One code dialect across the line - what changes by model is the hardware behind it: steam generators and third racks join the map on upper trims.
Model label
The model and serial label is on the right side edge of the door panel, visible when the door is open. Photograph it with the code showing on the display. Photograph the complete label — the full model and serial identify parts and production year better than the series name alone.
Indicators and alerts
For any message not shown, use the manual for the exact model rather than a generic list.
LG diagnostics
IE, OE, AE/E1, HE and tE meanings are verified against LG USA's official support library. Codes whose meanings vary by generation are handled per model rather than flattened into one blog-style table.
Preventive service and owner care
Alpha Pro provides preventive and general maintenance for LG dishwashers. The appliance design determines which procedures are accessible and appropriate.
Owner maintenance
Professional maintenance
A professional visit can evaluate accessible systems without assuming every procedure applies to every model.
Diagnosis before parts
Call or book with the model label, exact behavior, any displayed codes, photos, and access notes.
The technician examines the reported condition in context: fill, wash, drain, drying, controls, leaks, and relevant components.
Findings and proposed work are explained before repair proceeds. The residential diagnostic is credited toward an approved repair.
Service area and operating context
From established west-side streets to Otay Ranch's new communities, Chula Vista runs every appliance generation - big families, big laundry loads and builder suites hitting their first repairs.
South Bay and East County bring summer heat, hard water and hard-working family appliances - practical repairs with strong parts availability are the local priority.
During maintenance, accessible metal surfaces can be inspected for corrosion, moisture exposure, or conditions that may warrant attention. Location alone does not establish the cause of a failure.
A better repair decision
There is no honest universal age or price threshold. Start with the exact model and a diagnosis.
Local notes · Chula Vista
When a household averages more than three people, the dishwasher rarely gets a day off. Chula Vista's average is about 3.1 persons per home, and the 2022 census estimate was 3.25. That kind of use piles hours onto an LG's inverter direct-drive wash motor, its vario motor and its drain pump. Many east-side homes built during the 2000s also still have their first dishwasher, now old enough for wear parts to give out. Motor, drain and fill faults are the practical concerns here.
LG dishwashers send water through QuadWash spray arms using a vario motor, a small motor that switches flow between arms, alongside the main wash motor. Both run every cycle. In a busy Eastlake or Otay Ranch kitchen running once or twice a day, they build up far more running time than they would in a two-person condo. Roughly 34% of Chula Vista's housing was built in 2000 or later, and the master-planned east side, from Eastlake (begun 1986) and Rancho del Rey (1989) to Otay Ranch (begun 1999), Millenia and Rolling Hills Ranch, holds much of it. Dishwashers original to those homes are reaching the age where pumps, valves and motors wear out. Water depends on which side of town you live on. Otay Water District serves the east and reported 9.4 grains per gallon for 2025, which is hard. Sweetwater Authority serves the west and center at 193 mg/L, which is very hard. Either way, calcium builds on the inlet valve screen and the heater, contributing to IE fill errors and HE heater faults. The larger the household, the faster that buildup happens, simply because more water passes through.
Symptom: LE or CE on the display; the machine hums or goes quiet with no wash sound. Cause: The main wash motor or its wiring harness has faulted, typically after years of daily cycles. Fix: LG suggests switching the breaker off for 10 seconds and restarting. If the code returns, we test the motor and harness and replace whichever has failed.
Symptom: nE code; one rack comes out dirty because a spray arm seems to get no water. Cause: The vario, or water-guide, motor that switches flow between spray arms has failed or stuck. Fix: We confirm by testing the vario motor and its connections, then replace it. On LG models this is a routine part.
Symptom: Water standing in the tub with OE on the display. Cause: A kinked or clogged drain hose, a blocked disposal inlet, a packed filter or a worn drain pump. Fix: Clean the filter first. We then clear the hose and disposal connection and test the pump, replacing it if it can't clear the tub.
Symptom: IE after about 10 minutes, with only a little water in the tub. Cause: A closed or partly open supply valve, pressure outside 20 to 120 psi, a drain hose below 10 inches that siphons, an unlevel unit, or a scale-clogged inlet valve. Fix: Check the valve under the sink. We verify pressure and hose height and replace an inlet valve that restricts flow.
Heavy use shortens every maintenance interval. In a home that runs the machine daily, the filter fills faster, so clean it more often than the usual monthly baseline. Scrape plates but skip the prewash; the detergent needs food soil to work on. Use dishwasher detergent only, measured to the load. East-side homes on Otay water can descale a little less often than west-side homes on Sweetwater's harder supply, but both benefit from rinse aid. If racks come out gritty, check the filter before anything else.
Let us know which code the display shows and where in the cycle the machine stops. Many east-side homes are in HOA communities, so pass along gate or parking instructions. Before we arrive, unload the racks and empty the sink cabinet; the technician checks the supply valve, drain hose and disposal connection there before removing the kick plate to reach the pump and motors. Have the model and serial number handy, ideally as a photo of the label. If you've already tried LG's 10-second breaker reset, tell us whether it cleared the code.
Drain pumps, inlet valves and vario motors are routine repairs and usually worthwhile, even on a dishwasher that has seen years of heavy family use. Leak repairs and heaters fall in the same category. The decision gets closer when the main wash motor fails along with the control board on an older machine, where parts and labor for both can make a new dishwasher the smarter spend. Our $99 diagnostic, credited toward the repair, gives you the tested answer.

Clear preparation makes a service request easier to evaluate.
Yes - same-day windows are offered across San Diego County subject to the day's schedule. Availability is confirmed for the exact address when you book.
We take requests across Chula Vista (ZIP 91910, 91911, 91913-91915). Share gate codes, parking or building access when booking so the technician can plan the visit.
Yes. It is non-refundable and credited toward the total repair cost if you proceed. There are no residential exceptions.
A 90-day labor warranty and a 1-year parts warranty, both starting on the date the repair is completed.
No. A symptom narrows the search, but the diagnostic visit on the exact model confirms the actual fault before any repair is authorized.
A drain error - officially, most often food debris in the filter or an installation issue. Clean the filter first; a persisting OE means pump or drain-path service.
A leak inside the machine has tripped the base float switch. Close the water supply and book - the code stays until the leak is found and fixed.
On the right side edge of the door panel, visible when the door is open.
Codes like AE report a physical condition - water in the base pan - not a software state. The condition has to be repaired, then the code clears.
Yes - the STUDIO machines share the code dialect and inverter drive with the LDT line, with their own trim-level parts.
nE is LG's vario motor error. The vario motor directs water between the spray arms, so when it fails, one rack may come out poorly cleaned. Try a 10-second breaker reset once. If nE returns, the motor or its wiring needs testing, and usually the motor is replaced.
More often than the usual monthly guideline. With daily or twice-daily loads, rinse the filter every week or two under warm running water, brushing the mesh gently. A clogged filter slows draining, can trigger OE, and leaves grit on glasses and plates.
It's hard on both sides of town. Otay Water District, serving the east, reported 9.4 grains per gallon for 2025; Sweetwater Authority, serving the west and center, reported 193 mg/L. Scale forms on the heater and inlet valve over time. Rinse aid and periodic descaling slow it down.
Usually yes, if the problem is a pump, valve, heater or leak, since those are routine. If the wash motor and control board both fail, compare that cost against a new unit. We'll show you which parts tested bad before you decide.
