This parent page helps route a dishwasher request. A symptom, feature name or brand link does not by itself identify a failed part or confirm support for every model, configuration or repair.
Note when water remains and which cycle stage was last observed. Do not infer a pump, hose or control failure from the symptom alone.
Stop using the dishwasher and note the safely visible location. Avoid standing water near a cord, outlet or electrical component.
Note the selected cycle, load pattern, detergent and safely observable water behavior. Those details do not by themselves identify a failed component.
Describe the visible condition and when the issue occurs. Do not force the door, latch, rack or dispenser.
Note when the behavior occurs and any complete display message. A sound or cycle symptom alone does not prove a specific part failed.
Use existing paperwork or a safely visible label to identify the dishwasher. Do not pull out built-in equipment or touch wiring, water lines, drain connections or mounting hardware.
San Diego installations
Installation style changes access, parts and the service conversation—identify yours before the visit.
The most common San Diego setup. Panel-ready models add cabinetry steps—mention a custom panel when scheduling.
Single and double drawers service differently than doors. Share the exact model label from the drawer edge.
Countertop and rolling units are serviced too. Confirm the model and how it connects to water.
San Diego's mineral-heavy water scales spray arms, filters and heaters. White film alone is not a failed part—diagnosis separates scale from genuine faults.
Safe owner checks
Stop using the dishwasher. Do not touch the unit, cord, outlet or standing water when an electrical hazard may be present.
Do not reproduce the problem or touch the unit, cord, outlet or standing water. If there is fire, smoke or any doubt, leave the home and call 911.
Models and maintenance
A model-family name alone does not establish parts, code meanings or repair eligibility. Share the complete label and installation details before model-specific guidance is used.
Photograph the complete model and serial label only when it is visible without moving the dishwasher, removing panels or reaching near wiring, hoses or water connections.
Follow the matching owner guide for detergent, dispenser, approved cleaning and exterior care. Do not use a generic cleaning procedure as a diagnostic step.
Do not disconnect hoses, touch valves or wiring, bypass the latch, remove the toe kick or pull a built-in dishwasher from cabinetry. Share known access and installation details when scheduling.
Our Work
Share the appliance, installation, model label and observed concern when requesting service.
The visit establishes the proposed repair scope. Review the estimate before authorizing work.
Work proceeds after approval. Any new scope requires separate approval before it is added.
Display messages
No new dishwasher error-code library is introduced by this parent-page candidate. Keep the complete message with the model label; do not transfer a definition or reset instruction between brands or models.
Commercial dishwasher requests have a distinct commercial dishwasher service page. It is not merged into this residential parent identity.

Usually it's mineral film from hard water. Both local suppliers deliver hard water, and heat makes the minerals drop out onto glassware. Keep the rinse aid full, set the machine's hardness option if it has one, and run a descaling cycle. If the film wipes off with vinegar, it's scale; if it doesn't, the glass may be etched.
No, dishwashers are built for daily use and a full load is efficient. It just means wear parts reach their limit sooner. Clean the filter more often, watch for a latch that feels loose or racks that drag, and fix small problems before they stress the pump or motor.
Unplug the unit or switch off its breaker, then remove and rinse the filter. If there's something lodged in the sump, like glass or a bone, carefully remove it. If it still hums without draining, the pump impeller may be jammed or the motor may have failed, and that's a job for a technician.
We repair most brands, from Whirlpool, GE and Bosch to KitchenAid and Miele. We're an independent repair company, so we work on any brand without being tied to a manufacturer. Tell us the brand and model when you book so we can check for common parts before the visit.
Local notes · Chula Vista
In a Chula Vista home with three, four or five people, the dishwasher rarely gets a day off. Many families run it after breakfast and again after dinner. That cycle count wears latches, door springs, rack wheels and pump bearings on a schedule a two-person household never sees. Add hot wash water drawn from a hard supply on either side of town, and scale starts building on the heater and in the spray arms. We repair dishwashers across Chula Vista, from the older blocks west of Hilltop Drive to Millenia and Otay Ranch.
Dissolved calcium and magnesium stay in solution when water is cool. Heat them and they come out as scale, which is why a dishwasher suffers more from hard water than a cold-water fixture does. The heating element or flow-through heater gets the thickest coat, and a scaled heater takes longer to reach wash temperature or trips a heater code. Minerals also narrow the holes in the spray arms and clog the fine screen on the inlet valve. In western and central Chula Vista, Sweetwater Authority's 2025 average was 193 mg/L, which is very hard. The east side's Otay Water District posted a 2025 average near 9.4 gpg, also hard. Hard water also weakens detergent, so glasses come out cloudy and people add more soap; independent testing found softened water let users cut dishwasher detergent by up to about 70% with equal or better results. Then there's volume. Census figures put the typical Chula Vista household at 3.1 people or more, and two loads a day doubles the number of times the door latch, drain pump and circulation pump cycle compared with a single evening load.
Symptom: White film on dishes, long cycles, dishes still wet, or a heating error. Cause: Mineral scale coats the heating element and spray-arm holes, and a clogged inlet screen slows the fill. Fix: We descale, clean the inlet screen and spray arms, set the rinse aid and hardness options correctly, and replace the heater or valve if it's damaged.
Symptom: Door won't latch or falls open hard, racks drag or wheels break off. Cause: Two cycles a day wear moving parts twice as fast as occasional use. Fix: We replace the latch assembly, springs or cables, and rack wheels or rails.
Symptom: Dirty water left in the tub, odor, a drain code or a humming pump. Cause: Food scraps, seeds, glass chips and labels pack the filter and jam the drain pump impeller. Fix: We clean the filter and sump, clear the pump and replace it if the impeller or motor is damaged.
Symptom: Water on the floor, swollen cabinet base or a leak-detection code. Cause: Worn door gasket, failed inlet valve or hose, pump seals, or oversudsing from hand dish soap. Fix: We locate the source, replace the seal, valve or hose, and dry the base so the float sensor resets.
The filter is the part busy families neglect most. With heavy use, clean it monthly rather than every few months. Run a descaling or cleaning cycle several times a year; with water this hard, quarterly is a sensible floor. Before you start a load, run the kitchen tap until the water is hot so the first fill doesn't begin cold. Scrape bones, seeds and labels off plates so they never reach the pump. A clean filter also takes load off the drain pump.
Empty the dishwasher and clear the cabinet under the sink so the technician can reach the water shutoff and drain connection. If there's standing water, leave it; it tells us something. We read any error code, check the filter and sump, test the heater and pumps, and look at the inlet valve screen for scale. The model and serial number are usually printed on the edge of the door or the tub frame; a photo saves time. Let us know about gate access in Eastlake or Rancho del Rey communities.
Pumps, inlet valves, latches, heaters and seals are worth repairing on most dishwashers. The picture changes after about ten years, the low end of the 10 to 13 year life often cited, especially when the tub is cracked or the control board and a pump fail together. Heavy daily use can bring a unit to that point sooner. Our $99 diagnostic is credited toward the repair.
