LG dryers
LG dryers carry the Flow Sense system - d80, d90 and d95 codes that measure how blocked the exhaust duct actually is, in percent. It is a fire-prevention feature as much as a diagnostic, and it makes LG dryers unusually honest about the number-one cause of drying problems: the vent, not the machine.
A photo of the model label and the complete installation helps the team understand the configuration before the visit.
27-inch electric dryers with sensor dry and TurboSteam on upper trims (DLEX4000 class and up).
The matching gas machines - igniter, valve coils and flame sensor replace the element.
24-inch ventless heat-pump dryers for closets and condos - condensate path instead of a duct.
Steam models add a water feed and steam generator to the service map.
Start with the symptom
A symptom narrows the inspection; it does not identify the failed component. The $99 visit confirms the actual fault on the exact model before any repair is authorized.
The d80 story even without the code: vent restriction is measured before any part.
Supply leg or element on electric, coils on gas - measured directly.
Moisture sensing and airflow - tested together.
Filters, condenser and condensate path - the DLHC trio.
Rollers, idler and belt - the platform wear kit.
Water feed and steam generator on TurboSteam trims.
Series and model numbers
The suffix letters carry color and steam; the platform letter carries fuel - and on every vented model, Flow Sense watches the duct.
Model label
The model and serial label is inside the door opening, on the front panel below the drum mouth. Open the door and photograph it with any code showing. Photograph the complete label — the full model and serial identify parts and production year better than the series name alone.
Indicators and alerts
For any message not shown, use the manual for the exact model rather than a generic list.
LG diagnostics
All meanings verified against LG USA's official dryer error-code documentation, including the Flow Sense percentage codes. Vent-side codes are treated as the safety information they are - the duct gets cleared, not argued with.
Preventive service and owner care
Alpha Pro provides preventive and general maintenance for LG dryers. The appliance design determines which procedures are accessible and appropriate.
Owner maintenance
Professional maintenance
A professional visit can evaluate accessible systems without assuming every procedure applies to every model.
Diagnosis before parts
Call or book with the model label, exact behavior, any displayed codes, photos, and access notes.
The technician examines the reported condition in context: airflow, heat, cycle behavior, drum condition, controls, and relevant components.
Findings and proposed work are explained before repair proceeds. The residential diagnostic is credited toward an approved repair.
Service area and operating context
Poway sits in the hills off I-15 - ranch properties of Old Poway, gated Green Valley, newer streets off Espola Road. Garage refrigerators fight summer heat, canyon dust clogs condensers, and hard water leaves scale in ice makers and washer valves.
Inland heat and hard water set the pattern here: garage refrigerators work hardest in summer, dust clogs condensers, and scale builds in ice makers, dishwashers and washer valves.
During maintenance, accessible metal surfaces can be inspected for corrosion, moisture exposure, or conditions that may warrant attention. Location alone does not establish the cause of a failure.
A better repair decision
There is no honest universal age or price threshold. Start with the exact model and a diagnosis.
Local notes · Poway
Poway calls itself the City in the Country, and laundry here proves it. Riding clothes, saddle pads, barn towels and trail-dusty jeans fill an LG dryer with more lint and fine dirt than a typical suburban load. That extra debris packs the lint path and the exhaust duct, and the dryer answers with Flow Sense codes, longer cycles and, eventually, a tripped thermal fuse. Add large family homes and hot summer garages, and vent health becomes the first thing we check.
Poway has more than 78 miles of city trails where horses have priority, and dirt roads still see riders. Barn dust, arena dirt and hay fragments ride home on clothing, then come loose in the drum. The lint filter catches most of it, but the fine fraction moves on into the duct. U.S. Fire Administration data from 2008 to 2010 lists failure to clean as the leading contributing factor in residential dryer fires at 34 percent, and dust, fiber or lint as the first item ignited in 28 percent. That makes vent cleaning a safety job here, not just an efficiency one. Housing adds to the load. About 76 percent of Poway homes are detached single-family houses, and roughly 39 percent have four bedrooms. Most were built between 1970 and 1999, so many dryer ducts are decades old. Laundry often sits in the garage, and August highs average 84°F, which means warm intake air on summer afternoons. Wildfire history is part of life here as well. Large parts of the city were evacuated during the 2003 Cedar Fire and the 2007 Witch Creek Fire, and ash from a smoke event can settle in exterior vent hoods.
Symptom: Flow Sense codes, clothes still damp, a hot laundry area. Cause: Fine barn and trail dust bound up with lint inside a long garage or attic duct, a crushed transition hose, or ash in the outside hood. Fix: We clean the filter housing and the entire vent, swap foil hose for metal duct, and check the hood after any smoke event.
Symptom: The drum turns, no flame, and GAS shows on the display. Cause: The supply valve left closed after other work, a kinked gas line, a weak igniter or failed gas valve coils. Fix: Make sure the supply valve is open. Beyond that, we test the igniter and coils and replace what failed. If you smell gas, leave and call SDG&E first.
Symptom: Cold air, sometimes with an nP code, often after weeks of long cycles. Cause: A restricted vent made the heater run hot until the thermal fuse or high-limit opened. A tripped breaker leg can cause the same symptom. Fix: We test 240 V, the element and the fuses, replace the failed part, and clear the restriction so it does not happen again.
Symptom: Thumping, squealing or a drum that slips. Cause: Heavy wet saddle pads, horse blankets and big family loads put extra weight on the drum, wearing rollers, the idler pulley and the belt faster. Fix: We replace the worn parts as a kit and check the drum for debris that got past the filter.
Shake out barn clothes and horse blankets outdoors before they go in the dryer, and brush off dried mud first. Pet hair from dogs and barn cats adds to the lint load, so the filter may need cleaning mid-cycle on heavy days. After a Santa Ana wind event or nearby smoke, look at the outside hood for dust and ash. In summer, give a garage dryer room to breathe rather than packing storage around it.
Poway homes are spread out, so share any gate code, long driveway directions or where to park near the garage. If you keep horses or dogs, secure them before we arrive. We will need to pull the dryer out to reach the duct and, on gas models, the supply connection. Have the model and serial number from the door frame label, the error code, and a note on how long cycles have been taking. A photo of where the vent exits the house saves time.
Igniters, elements, thermal fuses, thermistors and roller kits are low-cost repairs, so most Poway LG dryers are worth fixing. The replace decision usually comes with a control board failure on an older machine. If the dryer is mechanically sound and the vent is cleaned, it can keep going for years. The $99 diagnostic is credited toward the repair, so the first step costs nothing extra if you proceed.

Clear preparation makes a service request easier to evaluate.
Yes - same-day windows are offered across San Diego County subject to the day's schedule. Availability is confirmed for the exact address when you book.
We take requests across Poway (ZIP 92064, 92074). Share gate codes, parking or building access when booking so the technician can plan the visit.
Yes. It is non-refundable and credited toward the total repair cost if you proceed. There are no residential exceptions.
A 90-day labor warranty and a 1-year parts warranty, both starting on the date the repair is completed.
No. A symptom narrows the search, but the diagnostic visit on the exact model confirms the actual fault before any repair is authorized.
No - it is telling you your vent is about 90% blocked, and stopping for safety. Vent clearing resolves it; ignoring it is how lint fires start.
Often one dead leg of the 240V supply, then the heater circuit - nP on the display points the same direction. Both are measured, not guessed.
A thermistor fault - the temperature sensor circuit. Official first step is a reset; a returning tE1 is a sensor-circuit repair.
Inside the door opening on the front panel - open the door and photograph the label.
Yes - DLHC heat-pump compacts, where filters and the condensate path replace the vent as the first diagnosis.
Plan on every 6 to 12 months. Barn dust and hay fragments are finer than normal lint and cling to the duct walls. A yearly cleaning is the general guideline for all homes, but a dryer drying riding clothes and saddle pads fills the vent faster. A D75 code is a sign to clean now.
If you smell gas, stop, leave the house and call SDG&E. If there's no smell, check that the gas supply valve behind the dryer is fully open. If it is and the code returns, the igniter or gas valve coils likely need testing. Don't work on the gas valve yourself.
Some. Warm intake air isn't harmful by itself, but it gives the dryer less margin when the vent is also restricted. On hot days, a partly clogged duct makes the cabinet and safety thermostats run hotter, which is often when a thermal fuse finally opens. Keeping the vent clean is the real fix.
It's worth a look. Ash and fine particulates can collect in the exterior vent hood and screen. Clear the hood and make sure the flap opens freely when the dryer runs. If drying times get longer in the weeks afterward, the duct itself may need a professional cleaning.
