Cafe wall ovens
Café's wall ovens headline with the French-door CTS90 - both doors swinging open on a 5.0 cu ft convection cavity - alongside the conventional CTS70 singles and double-oven siblings. Behind the 7-inch touchscreens runs GE's documented F-code system: F2 for over-temperature, F3 and F4 for the sensor, F9 for the door lock, F350 for the cooling fan.
A photo of the model label and the complete installation helps the team understand the configuration before the visit.

Start with the symptom
A symptom narrows the inspection; it does not identify the failed component. The $99 visit confirms the actual fault on the exact model before any repair is authorized.
Thermal fuse and door lock - the documented high-heat aftermath, routinely repaired.
The signature mechanism's hinges and cables - real service items with real procedures.
Convection fan, element health and sensor calibration - measured, not guessed.
Control and keypanel isolation - the F0/F7 family even without a code.
The F9 pattern - latch motor and switches, never forced.
SmartHQ connectivity is a convenience layer - fixed last, after the oven itself is healthy.
Series and model numbers
French-door or conventional, the control family and its F-codes are shared - the model plate on the frame decides the parts book.
Model label
The model and serial plate is on the oven frame's side trim, visible when the door is open - on French-door models, open either door and check the left frame. Photograph it whole. Photograph the complete label — the full model and serial identify parts and production year better than the series name alone.
Indicators and alerts
For any message not shown, use the manual for the exact model rather than a generic list.
Cafe diagnostics
All codes and meanings come from GE Appliances' official fault-code documentation, which Café ovens share as a GE brand. F-codes shift by control generation, so anything ambiguous is verified against the exact model's service data during the visit.
Preventive service and owner care
Alpha Pro provides preventive and general maintenance for Cafe wall ovens. The appliance design determines which procedures are accessible and appropriate.
Owner maintenance
Professional maintenance
A professional visit can evaluate accessible systems without assuming every procedure applies to every model.
Diagnosis before parts
Call or book with the model label, exact behavior, any displayed codes, photos, and access notes.
The technician examines the reported condition in context: preheat behavior, temperatures, elements, door fit, controls, and relevant components.
Findings and proposed work are explained before repair proceeds. The residential diagnostic is credited toward an approved repair.
Service area and operating context
Poway sits in the hills off I-15 - ranch properties of Old Poway, gated Green Valley, newer streets off Espola Road. Garage refrigerators fight summer heat, canyon dust clogs condensers, and hard water leaves scale in ice makers and washer valves.
Inland heat and hard water set the pattern here: garage refrigerators work hardest in summer, dust clogs condensers, and scale builds in ice makers, dishwashers and washer valves.
During maintenance, accessible metal surfaces can be inspected for corrosion, moisture exposure, or conditions that may warrant attention. Location alone does not establish the cause of a failure.
A better repair decision
There is no honest universal age or price threshold. Start with the exact model and a diagnosis.
Local notes · Poway
Poway homes are big, and so are the kitchens. Close to half have four or more bedrooms, and households average 2.9 people. A Café double wall oven fits that life well, until its convection fan starts to drag. Inland Poway brings dry summer heat, dust carried by Santa Ana winds, and the fine grit that comes with horse property and trail riding. None of it gets into a sealed oven cavity easily. What it does reach is the cooling air path and the parts that depend on moving air: fans, the control board and the keypanel.
Poway's hot season runs from about July 1 through late September, with an August average high near 84 degrees, and summer nights cool off more than at the coast. Santa Ana winds blow from roughly September through April and are strongest inland, bringing very dry air and a lot of fine dust. Many properties add their own dust through arenas, barns and the city's 78-plus miles of trails, where horses have priority. For a wall oven, the concern is airflow. A cooling fan draws room air past the electronics above the door and pushes warm air out through the vent. When that path picks up dust, the fan works harder and the control board runs warmer. Convection fans inside the cavity don't breathe room air, but their motors sit behind the rear panel, where heat builds during long roasts and self-clean cycles. Most Poway homes were built between 1970 and 1999, so many kitchens have been remodeled once, often with a double oven in the old cabinetry. After the 2003 and 2007 wildfire evacuations, ash is also on owners' minds. Fine ash in a kitchen settles into vents the same way dust does.
Symptom: Rattling or grinding from the back of the cavity, uneven browning, or no convection at all. Cause: Worn fan motor bearings, often after long, hot cycles, or a failed convection element beside the fan. Fix: We check motor drag and element resistance, replace the failed part and run a convection test bake.
Symptom: The display goes blank or shows F5, F8 or FF and won't clear. Cause: GE flags these codes for the electronic control. Heat buildup in the cabinet and a dusty cooling path shorten board life. Fix: After a breaker reset and voltage check, we replace the control and clean the cooling air path.
Symptom: Cakes come out underdone at the right setting, or the oven stops with F3 or F4. Cause: A drifting or failed temperature sensor. A worn door gasket can also let heat escape. Fix: We verify with a thermometer, test sensor resistance, and replace the sensor or gasket as needed.
Symptom: The door stays locked after a self-clean on a hot day. Cause: The lock motor or its switch failed under the very high cavity heat of self-clean, which is harder on parts when the kitchen is already hot. Fix: We release the door safely, test the motor and switches, and replace the lock assembly. Don't force the handle.
The goal is to keep air moving around the electronics. Vacuum the grille or vent area near the top of the oven with a soft brush attachment. After a windy week or a smoke event, wipe the door, handle and vent area and keep the counter below clean. Save self-clean for cooler months rather than the hot season. If the oven shows a code, try a one-to-two-minute breaker reset after writing it down. Keep the counter and floor near the oven swept, since grit there ends up in the vent.
Poway visits are usually straightforward: detached homes with driveways and room to work. Some Old Coach Estates and rural properties have gates or long drives, so share access details. On horse properties, tell us where to park away from trailers and animals. Have the model and serial number from the oven frame, the code, and a note on whether the fault appeared during convection, bake or self-clean. For noise complaints, a short video with sound helps a lot. Clear the area in front of the oven before we arrive.
A double oven that went in during a 2000s remodel is often worth keeping. Fans, sensors, locks, elements and keypanels are replaceable, and matching a new double oven to the old cabinet opening isn't always simple. Replacement is worth considering if both cavities and the main control fail together, or if parts are discontinued. We'll give you a clear recommendation after the $99 diagnostic, which is credited toward the repair.

We take requests across Poway (ZIP 92064, 92074). Share gate codes, parking or building access when booking so the technician can plan the visit.
Yes. It is non-refundable and credited toward the total repair cost if you proceed. There are no residential exceptions.
A 90-day labor warranty and a 1-year parts warranty, both starting on the date the repair is completed.
No. A symptom narrows the search, but the diagnostic visit on the exact model confirms the actual fault before any repair is authorized.
Officially, a component failed in the door lock circuit. The latch motor, switches and wiring are tested in order - the door should never be forced.
The mechanism adds hinge and cable service points, but they are documented and repairable. Sagging or dragging doors are a routine visit, not a verdict.
Better not to. It flags the cooling fan circuit, and that fan protects the control electronics. Running without it turns a fan repair into a board repair.
On the side trim of the oven frame, visible with a door open. GE parts need the full model with its suffix.
Yes - the double-cavity machines share the control family; each cavity is diagnosed independently.
Usually not dangerous, but it's a warning. Noise that appears as the oven gets hot often points to worn fan motor bearings expanding with heat. Left alone, the motor can seize and convection stops. A replacement motor is a routine repair.
Yes. Wipe the door and trim, vacuum the vent grille, and remove any ash from the counter below before your next long bake. Fine ash can clog cooling paths the same way dust does. If the kitchen was heavily affected, a technician can check airflow.
Each cavity has its own elements and sensor. A lukewarm lower cavity usually means a failed bake element or sensor on that side. We test each part and confirm the temperature with a thermometer before replacing anything. Uneven heat between cavities is rarely a control board problem.
Yes, all of Poway, including Green Valley, Old Coach Estates, The Grove and properties along Garden Road. Let us know about gates, long driveways or animals so the visit goes smoothly, and tell us if the oven is in a guest house or casita.
