Clairemont coverage
Clairemont's mid-century homes often pair original kitchens with newer appliances - installation quirks from decades of remodels are normal, and we work with them daily.
Central San Diego mixes condos, high-rises and mid-century homes: building access, compact formats and remodel-era installations shape the visit as much as the appliance.
Typical repair pricing
Estimated dryer repair pricing for common work in standard installations. The exact scope and total are confirmed after diagnosis and before authorized repair work begins.
$99 residential diagnostic fee: non-refundable and credited toward the total repair cost when you proceed. Parts, model, installation, access and the confirmed repair scope can change the final total.

This parent page helps route a dryer request. A symptom, feature name or brand link does not by itself identify a failed part or confirm support for every model and installation.
Describe the earlier cycle, load and whether heat was expected. Long drying or wet clothes alone does not establish the failed component.
Note the earlier button, display and drum response. Do not repeat a cycle, reach into the drum or bypass a door switch to demonstrate the concern.
Describe whether the door closed, latched and stayed closed, and at what point the earlier cycle stopped or changed.
Note when the sound occurs and where it seems to come from. A sound alone does not establish the failed component.
Photograph the complete display and share the exact model. Do not include account passwords or assume a code has the same meaning across models.
Use existing paperwork or a safely visible label to identify the dryer. Do not move stacked equipment or touch power, gas or exhaust connections.
San Diego installations
San Diego homes mix three dryer configurations, and the configuration changes both the likely service scope and the parts involved. Identify yours from paperwork or a safely visible label before the visit.
The most common configuration in San Diego condos and newer homes. Heating elements and thermal fuses are the usual heat-related repair path.
Dries faster per cycle and is common in older single-family homes. Igniters, gas valve coils and thermocouples are brand- and model-specific parts.
Frequent in coastal condos and ADUs without an exterior vent. Sealed-system work on these models is quoted separately after diagnosis.
The U.S. Fire Administration reports about 2,900 home clothes-dryer fires each year, and failure to clean the dryer is the leading contributing factor. Long vent runs common in multi-story San Diego buildings make full exhaust-path cleaning part of the service conversation.
Safe owner checks
Leave the area immediately. From a safe location, call 911 or SDG&E at 1-800-411-7343. Do not use the dryer, operate switches or return to demonstrate the concern.
Stop using the dryer. If there is a fire, get out, stay out and call 911 from a safe location. Do not run another cycle to reproduce the problem.
Models and maintenance
A model-family name alone does not establish parts, code meanings or repair eligibility. Share the complete label and installation details before model-specific guidance is used.
Photograph the complete model and serial label only when it is visible without moving the dryer, removing panels or reaching near wiring, gas or exhaust connections.
Follow the matching owner guide for routine lint-filter and approved exterior care. Cleaning does not prove a dryer is safe after a fault.
Do not disconnect exhaust, move stacked equipment or change a gas or electrical connection. Share known access and installation details when scheduling.

The visit establishes the proposed repair scope. Review the estimate before authorizing work.
Work proceeds after approval. Any new scope requires separate approval before it is added.

The fuse is a symptom, not the cause. It blows when exhaust gets too hot, and that almost always means restricted airflow: a clogged vent, a crushed duct behind the machine or a stuck outside flap. Replacing the fuse alone just sets up the next failure. We clean and correct the vent first.
Look behind it. A gas dryer has a gas pipe with a shutoff valve and a standard household plug. An electric dryer has a large 240-volt plug and no gas line. In Clairemont both are common because some original all-electric homes added gas in later remodels.
No. Dryer and safety guidance calls for rigid or semi-rigid metal duct only. Flexible foil and plastic crush easily and trap lint, which restricts airflow and raises fire risk. We can replace a foil transition while we are there.
It adds stress. The dryer starts with warmer intake air, so it runs closer to its high-limit thermostat. On its own that is manageable, but combine it with a partly clogged vent and the dryer overheats and trips its safety devices. Keeping the vent clean matters most.
Local notes · Clairemont
Before we order a single dryer part in Clairemont, we confirm the fuel. The original tract homes here were marketed with all-electric kitchens, and many laundry areas followed suit, but decades of remodels have added gas lines to some houses and not others. That is why a dryer on one street may need a heating element and the same model's twin next door needs an igniter. Most of these dryers live in the attached garage, which brings its own heat and venting issues. We repair dryers from Whirlpool, Maytag, LG, Samsung and GE.
A dryer works by pulling room air across a heat source, through the tumbling load and out a vent. Safety thermostats and a thermal fuse shut off the heat if exhaust temperature climbs too high. In a Clairemont garage, two things push that temperature up. The first is the intake air: Montgomery Field's normals show a typical September peaking near 98 F, and a closed garage on the mesa runs hotter than that, so the dryer starts from a warm baseline. The second is the vent. In 1950s and 1960s garages the vent may exit through a wall or the roof, and it may have been extended over the years with flexible foil duct that sags and crushes behind the machine. A restricted vent slows airflow, dry times stretch out, and the thermal fuse or high-limit thermostat trips. Fire data points the same way: USFA lists failure to clean as the leading factor in home dryer fires, at 31 percent. Lint from pets and heavy family laundry fills vents faster. Homes along the Tecolote and San Clemente canyon rims should also check the exterior hood for nests after long quiet stretches.
Symptom: Clothes still damp after a full cycle, the garage gets hot, and the dryer stops heating again weeks after a fuse replacement. Cause: Lint in the duct, crushed foil transition hose, a long run with many elbows, or a stuck exterior flap. Fix: We clean the vent path, replace foil with rigid or semi-rigid metal duct, and only then replace the fuse so it does not blow again.
Symptom: The drum turns and the air blows cold. Cause: An open heating element, thermal cut-off, or cycling thermostat, usually after overheating from poor airflow. Fix: We test the element and safety devices, replace the failed part, and fix the airflow cause.
Symptom: The igniter glows and goes out, or the burner lights briefly then stops. Cause: A weak igniter, failed gas valve coils, or a bad flame sensor. Fix: We test each part and replace what failed. If you smell gas at any point, leave the house and call SDG&E first.
Symptom: Noise that follows drum rotation. Cause: Worn drum rollers, idler pulley, belt or glides; sand from beach trips also wears glides. Fix: A support kit with rollers, idler and belt usually restores quiet operation.
Clean the lint screen before or after every load, and have the full vent cleaned yearly per NFPA guidance; Whirlpool allows every one to two years, sooner if drying slows. Use only rigid or semi-rigid metal ducting, never plastic or foil. Fabric softener leaves a film on the moisture sensor bars inside the drum, which causes over- or under-drying, so wipe them occasionally. Gas dryers must always vent outdoors through approved metal duct.
Please tell us when you book whether the dryer is gas or electric; if you are not sure, look for a gas line and shutoff behind it or a large 240-volt plug. With the garage door open we can pull the dryer out and reach the vent connection. Clear space behind and beside it. The model and serial tag is usually inside the door frame. Let us know the symptom, how long a normal load takes now, and whether the vent was ever cleaned. If you smell gas, do not wait for us: leave and call SDG&E.
Nearly every dryer repair is low to moderate cost: elements, fuses, thermostats, igniters, valve coils, belts and rollers. Dryer lifespans are commonly cited at 10 to 13 years, and even at that age a simple heating or drum repair usually makes sense. A failed control board on an old machine is the more common reason to replace. Our $99 diagnostic is credited toward the repair.
