Coronado coverage
Coronado is an island in practice - salt air on every exposed panel, historic homes beside naval housing, and ferry-and-bridge logistics we plan around every week.
South Bay and East County bring summer heat, hard water and hard-working family appliances - practical repairs with strong parts availability are the local priority.
Typical repair pricing
Estimated dryer repair pricing for common work in standard installations. The exact scope and total are confirmed after diagnosis and before authorized repair work begins.
$99 residential diagnostic fee: non-refundable and credited toward the total repair cost when you proceed. Parts, model, installation, access and the confirmed repair scope can change the final total.

This parent page helps route a dryer request. A symptom, feature name or brand link does not by itself identify a failed part or confirm support for every model and installation.
Describe the earlier cycle, load and whether heat was expected. Long drying or wet clothes alone does not establish the failed component.
Note the earlier button, display and drum response. Do not repeat a cycle, reach into the drum or bypass a door switch to demonstrate the concern.
Describe whether the door closed, latched and stayed closed, and at what point the earlier cycle stopped or changed.
Note when the sound occurs and where it seems to come from. A sound alone does not establish the failed component.
Photograph the complete display and share the exact model. Do not include account passwords or assume a code has the same meaning across models.
Use existing paperwork or a safely visible label to identify the dryer. Do not move stacked equipment or touch power, gas or exhaust connections.
San Diego installations
San Diego homes mix three dryer configurations, and the configuration changes both the likely service scope and the parts involved. Identify yours from paperwork or a safely visible label before the visit.
The most common configuration in San Diego condos and newer homes. Heating elements and thermal fuses are the usual heat-related repair path.
Dries faster per cycle and is common in older single-family homes. Igniters, gas valve coils and thermocouples are brand- and model-specific parts.
Frequent in coastal condos and ADUs without an exterior vent. Sealed-system work on these models is quoted separately after diagnosis.
The U.S. Fire Administration reports about 2,900 home clothes-dryer fires each year, and failure to clean the dryer is the leading contributing factor. Long vent runs common in multi-story San Diego buildings make full exhaust-path cleaning part of the service conversation.
Safe owner checks
Leave the area immediately. From a safe location, call 911 or SDG&E at 1-800-411-7343. Do not use the dryer, operate switches or return to demonstrate the concern.
Stop using the dryer. If there is a fire, get out, stay out and call 911 from a safe location. Do not run another cycle to reproduce the problem.
Models and maintenance
A model-family name alone does not establish parts, code meanings or repair eligibility. Share the complete label and installation details before model-specific guidance is used.
Photograph the complete model and serial label only when it is visible without moving the dryer, removing panels or reaching near wiring, gas or exhaust connections.
Follow the matching owner guide for routine lint-filter and approved exterior care. Cleaning does not prove a dryer is safe after a fault.
Do not disconnect exhaust, move stacked equipment or change a gas or electrical connection. Share known access and installation details when scheduling.
Our Work
Share the appliance, installation, model label and observed concern when requesting service.
The visit establishes the proposed repair scope. Review the estimate before authorizing work.
Work proceeds after approval. Any new scope requires separate approval before it is added.
Display messages
No verified production dryer error-code library is linked from this parent page. Keep the complete message with the model label; do not transfer a definition or reset instruction between brands or models.
Visit, pricing and warranty wording
The residential service visit / diagnostic fee is $99. It always applies, is non-refundable and is credited toward the total repair cost if you proceed. No exceptions.
The commercial service visit / diagnostic fee is $150 and is separate from residential pricing.
After diagnosis, review the proposed scope and estimate before authorizing repair work.
Review current pricing information90-day labor warranty.
1-year parts warranty.
Both terms begin on the date the repair is completed.
An online request starts scheduling; it does not by itself confirm an appointment or a model-specific repair outcome.

A thermal fuse is a safety part. It opens when the heater section overheats, and the usual reason is poor airflow: lint in the duct, a crushed transition hose or a stuck hood flap. Replacing the fuse alone just resets the clock. We find and fix the restriction so the new fuse lasts.
No. Fire-safety guidance, including from the CPSC, points to rigid or semi-rigid metal duct. Thin foil and plastic crush easily, trap lint in their ridges and can sag behind the machine. Swapping the transition piece is a quick job that often shortens dry times right away.
Leave the home right away. Don't flip switches, start the dryer or use anything that could spark. From outside, call SDG&E or 911. Once the utility has made the area safe, we can diagnose the dryer's gas valve, igniter and flame sensor. Never try to adjust a gas valve yourself.
Look at the outside vent hood first. Birds and rodents can nest in an unused hood, and a blocked vent makes the dryer overheat on the first load. Also clear the lint screen and run a short, small load while you watch the flap open. If it stays shut, call before continuing.
Local notes · Coronado
Every dryer pushes hot, damp, lint-heavy air through a duct and out a hood on the side or roof of the house. On Coronado that hood faces salt air from the ocean or the bay, and a corroded flap that sticks half-shut can lead to long dry times and tripped thermal fuses. Fixing the heat without fixing the airflow only brings the problem back. We check both on electric and gas dryers across the island.
A dryer's thermal fuse and cycling thermostat exist because restricted airflow makes the heater section overheat. Coronado stacks the odds toward restriction. The island is almost surrounded by salt water, and that air corrodes metal vent hoods and louvers over time, so flaps stick and lint catches on the edges. Sand, including the fine mica found on Coronado beaches, comes home in towels and swimwear, and some of it wears drum glides or collects in the blower housing. In homes left empty between seasonal or monthly occupants, birds and rodents can nest in an unused vent hood. Wherever a vent travels a long distance through walls or a crawlspace, and wherever crushed foil duct is used, airflow drops further. Fire data shows why this matters. The U.S. Fire Administration found that failure to clean was the leading contributing factor in home clothes dryer fires, at 31% in its 2018-2020 data. On an island this exposed, a monthly look at the outside hood is cheap protection.
Symptom: Loads take two or three cycles, the laundry area gets hot, or a check-vent message appears. Cause: Lint buildup, crushed foil duct, a long run, or a salt-corroded hood flap that no longer opens fully. Fix: We check airflow, clean the duct, replace foil with rigid or semi-rigid metal and swap a corroded hood.
Symptom: The drum turns but the air stays cool. Cause: Electric models: an open element, blown thermal fuse or cutoff, or failed thermostat. Gas models: a weak igniter, failed valve coils or a bad flame sensor. Fix: We test and replace the failed part, then correct the airflow problem behind it. Any gas odor means leaving the house and calling SDG&E before anyone touches the dryer.
Symptom: A rhythmic thump, squeal or scrape as the drum turns. Cause: Worn rollers, idler pulley, belt or glides. Rollers can flat-spot during long idle periods, and grit speeds up glide wear. Fix: We replace the worn parts, usually as a kit, and vacuum sand out of the cabinet and blower.
Symptom: Auto-dry ends too early or runs far too long. Cause: Fabric-softener residue coats the moisture sensor bars and lint screen, so the control misreads how dry the load is. Fix: We clean the sensor bars and screen, test the sensor circuit and confirm the cycle ends at the right point.
NFPA advises cleaning the dryer vent at least once a year; Whirlpool says every one to two years, and sooner if drying slows. On the island, add a quick outdoor check. Walk to the hood while the dryer runs and watch the flap open. If it hangs, sticks or shows white corrosion, it's due for replacement. Clean the lint screen before or after every load, and wash it in soapy water now and then if you use dryer sheets.
Tell us whether your dryer is gas or electric and where the vent exits the house. For a gas dryer, keep the shutoff valve reachable. We come over the bridge or up the Silver Strand, so arrival windows allow for traffic. In the Shores towers, ask building management about elevator reservations and who handles the building's vent runs; in the Cays, confirm gate access. Have the model and serial numbers ready, usually inside the door frame, plus a short description of the symptom and how long a load takes now. Residents of on-base family housing should route requests to Liberty Military Housing, which provides their maintenance.
Most dryer repairs fall in the low to middle tier: fuses, thermostats, igniters, elements, belts and rollers. Dryers are mechanically simple and typically last 10 to 13 years, so repair is usually the better value unless the drum, motor and controls are all worn at once. A new dryer won't fix a blocked vent either; it will blow fuses the same way. The $99 diagnostic is credited toward whatever we repair.
