El Cajon coverage
El Cajon summers are the hottest work our refrigerators' condensers see - garage units, dusty valley air and hard water define the East County service pattern.
South Bay and East County bring summer heat, hard water and hard-working family appliances - practical repairs with strong parts availability are the local priority.
Typical repair pricing
Estimated dryer repair pricing for common work in standard installations. The exact scope and total are confirmed after diagnosis and before authorized repair work begins.
$99 residential diagnostic fee: non-refundable and credited toward the total repair cost when you proceed. Parts, model, installation, access and the confirmed repair scope can change the final total.

This parent page helps route a dryer request. A symptom, feature name or brand link does not by itself identify a failed part or confirm support for every model and installation.
Describe the earlier cycle, load and whether heat was expected. Long drying or wet clothes alone does not establish the failed component.
Note the earlier button, display and drum response. Do not repeat a cycle, reach into the drum or bypass a door switch to demonstrate the concern.
Describe whether the door closed, latched and stayed closed, and at what point the earlier cycle stopped or changed.
Note when the sound occurs and where it seems to come from. A sound alone does not establish the failed component.
Photograph the complete display and share the exact model. Do not include account passwords or assume a code has the same meaning across models.
Use existing paperwork or a safely visible label to identify the dryer. Do not move stacked equipment or touch power, gas or exhaust connections.
San Diego installations
San Diego homes mix three dryer configurations, and the configuration changes both the likely service scope and the parts involved. Identify yours from paperwork or a safely visible label before the visit.
The most common configuration in San Diego condos and newer homes. Heating elements and thermal fuses are the usual heat-related repair path.
Dries faster per cycle and is common in older single-family homes. Igniters, gas valve coils and thermocouples are brand- and model-specific parts.
Frequent in coastal condos and ADUs without an exterior vent. Sealed-system work on these models is quoted separately after diagnosis.
The U.S. Fire Administration reports about 2,900 home clothes-dryer fires each year, and failure to clean the dryer is the leading contributing factor. Long vent runs common in multi-story San Diego buildings make full exhaust-path cleaning part of the service conversation.
Safe owner checks
Leave the area immediately. From a safe location, call 911 or SDG&E at 1-800-411-7343. Do not use the dryer, operate switches or return to demonstrate the concern.
Stop using the dryer. If there is a fire, get out, stay out and call 911 from a safe location. Do not run another cycle to reproduce the problem.
Models and maintenance
A model-family name alone does not establish parts, code meanings or repair eligibility. Share the complete label and installation details before model-specific guidance is used.
Photograph the complete model and serial label only when it is visible without moving the dryer, removing panels or reaching near wiring, gas or exhaust connections.
Follow the matching owner guide for routine lint-filter and approved exterior care. Cleaning does not prove a dryer is safe after a fault.
Do not disconnect exhaust, move stacked equipment or change a gas or electrical connection. Share known access and installation details when scheduling.

A thermal fuse is a safety part that opens when the dryer overheats. Replacing it without fixing airflow means it will blow again. The usual cause is a restricted vent: lint in the duct, crushed foil ducting, or a stuck exterior flap. We check airflow at the vent outlet whenever we replace a fuse.
At least once a year, per NFPA guidance. Clean it twice a year if you run a load or more daily, have pets, or have a vent run longer than a few feet. Also check the exterior hood after windy, dusty days, since a stuck flap blocks exhaust as well as a clogged duct.
Don't operate switches or the dryer. Leave the house, then call SDG&E or 911 from outside. After the utility has made the area safe, we can inspect and repair the dryer's gas valve, igniter and connections. Never try to tighten or adjust a gas valve yourself.
Damp clothes after a long cycle point to poor airflow or no heat. Check the lint screen and vent hood first. If airflow is good, the heating element, gas igniter or a thermostat may have failed. Dryer-sheet residue on the moisture sensor bars can also make the dryer stop too early.
Local notes · El Cajon
A dryer that needs two cycles is usually telling you about its airflow. In El Cajon, several things choke airflow at once. Garage laundry rooms run hot all summer, dry Santa Ana winds carry dust, and larger households wash more loads, which means more lint. Lint also matters for safety: failure to clean is the leading factor in U.S. home dryer fires. We repair gas and electric dryers across El Cajon, Granite Hills and Rancho San Diego, and check the vent as part of every no-heat or slow-dry call.
A dryer heats air, pulls it through the drum and lint screen, then pushes it out through the exhaust vent. Anything that slows that flow raises the temperature inside the cabinet. When it gets too hot, a high-limit thermostat cycles the heat off, and eventually a thermal fuse opens and the dryer stops heating completely. A dryer in an El Cajon garage starts with hot intake air on summer afternoons that often reach the upper 80s, and hotter still on the hottest days, so there is less margin before those safety parts trip. The Santa Ana winds, which blow roughly ten days a year between September and April, can push dust into exterior vent hoods and jam their flaps. Households average about three people here, so dryers run more loads and collect more lint. Pets add hair that passes the screen and builds in the duct. The USFA found that dust, fiber or lint was the most common item first ignited in dryer fires. That's why our technicians look at the vent run, not just the heating element.
Symptom: Clothes take 90 minutes or more, the top of the dryer is hot, or the laundry area feels humid. Cause: Lint packed in the duct, crushed foil ducting behind the dryer, or a stuck exterior hood flap. Fix: We check airflow, clean the vent, and replace foil with rigid or semi-rigid metal duct.
Symptom: The drum turns but the air is cold on an electric dryer. Cause: Overheating from poor airflow blows the thermal fuse; elements also burn open with age. Fix: Test the fuse, element and thermostats, replace what failed, and correct the airflow cause so it doesn't blow again.
Symptom: A gas dryer tumbles without heat, or heats briefly then goes cold. Cause: A cracked igniter, weak gas valve coils, or a faulty flame sensor. Fix: Test and replace the part. If you ever smell gas, leave the house and call SDG&E first.
Symptom: Thumping, squealing or scraping while the drum turns. Cause: Rollers, belt and idler pulley wear with load count, and a busy family dryer racks up loads quickly. Rollers can also flat-spot. Fix: Replace the worn parts, usually as a kit, and check the drum glides.
The NFPA recommends cleaning the vent at least once a year, and Whirlpool says every one to two years, sooner if drying slows. In a busy El Cajon home with pets or a garage vent that faces the Santa Ana winds, plan on the shorter end. Clean the lint screen every load and wash it occasionally with warm soapy water if you use dryer sheets, which leave a film that blocks airflow and coats the moisture sensor bars. Keep the exterior hood flap free to swing.
Let us know if the dryer is gas or electric and where the vent exits the house, whether through a wall, the roof, or a long run under the floor. Clear space so the technician can pull the dryer out and inspect the duct, and for stacked units, clear the closet opening. For gas dryers, make sure the shutoff valve is reachable. Have the model and serial number ready from the door frame or back panel, and note how long a normal load now takes. That dry time helps pinpoint an airflow problem.
Most dryer repairs are lower-cost jobs: thermal fuses, elements, igniters, belts, rollers and sensors. Dryers are commonly cited as lasting 10 to 13 years, and a well-vented dryer often reaches that easily. Replacement mainly makes sense when a control board and motor both fail on an older machine, or when the cabinet or drum is damaged. Our $99 diagnostic, credited toward the repair, includes an airflow check so the new part isn't ruined by the same restriction.
