This parent page helps route a dryer request. A symptom, feature name or brand link does not by itself identify a failed part or confirm support for every model and installation.
Describe the earlier cycle, load and whether heat was expected. Long drying or wet clothes alone does not establish the failed component.
Note the earlier button, display and drum response. Do not repeat a cycle, reach into the drum or bypass a door switch to demonstrate the concern.
Describe whether the door closed, latched and stayed closed, and at what point the earlier cycle stopped or changed.
Note when the sound occurs and where it seems to come from. A sound alone does not establish the failed component.
Photograph the complete display and share the exact model. Do not include account passwords or assume a code has the same meaning across models.
Use existing paperwork or a safely visible label to identify the dryer. Do not move stacked equipment or touch power, gas or exhaust connections.
San Diego installations
San Diego homes mix three dryer configurations, and the configuration changes both the likely service scope and the parts involved. Identify yours from paperwork or a safely visible label before the visit.
The most common configuration in San Diego condos and newer homes. Heating elements and thermal fuses are the usual heat-related repair path.
Dries faster per cycle and is common in older single-family homes. Igniters, gas valve coils and thermocouples are brand- and model-specific parts.
Frequent in coastal condos and ADUs without an exterior vent. Sealed-system work on these models is quoted separately after diagnosis.
The U.S. Fire Administration reports about 2,900 home clothes-dryer fires each year, and failure to clean the dryer is the leading contributing factor. Long vent runs common in multi-story San Diego buildings make full exhaust-path cleaning part of the service conversation.
Safe owner checks
Leave the area immediately. From a safe location, call 911 or SDG&E at 1-800-411-7343. Do not use the dryer, operate switches or return to demonstrate the concern.
Stop using the dryer. If there is a fire, get out, stay out and call 911 from a safe location. Do not run another cycle to reproduce the problem.
Models and maintenance
A model-family name alone does not establish parts, code meanings or repair eligibility. Share the complete label and installation details before model-specific guidance is used.
Photograph the complete model and serial label only when it is visible without moving the dryer, removing panels or reaching near wiring, gas or exhaust connections.
Follow the matching owner guide for routine lint-filter and approved exterior care. Cleaning does not prove a dryer is safe after a fault.
Do not disconnect exhaust, move stacked equipment or change a gas or electrical connection. Share known access and installation details when scheduling.

The visit establishes the proposed repair scope. Review the estimate before authorizing work.
Work proceeds after approval. Any new scope requires separate approval before it is added.

No verified production dryer error-code library is linked from this parent page. Keep the complete message with the model label; do not transfer a definition or reset instruction between brands or models.
Visit, pricing and warranty wording
The residential service visit / diagnostic fee is $99. It always applies, is non-refundable and is credited toward the total repair cost if you proceed. No exceptions.
The commercial service visit / diagnostic fee is $150 and is separate from residential pricing.
After diagnosis, review the proposed scope and estimate before authorizing repair work.

1-year parts warranty.

The fuse is a safety device, not a wear part. Repeated failures mean the dryer is overheating, almost always because of restricted airflow somewhere in the vent, the duct behind the machine or the cabinet. Replacing the fuse without fixing the airflow only buys time.
No. The CPSC and NFPA warn against plastic and foil ducts. They crush easily when a dryer is pushed back against the wall and trap lint in their ridges. Rigid or semi-rigid metal is the standard, and it's an inexpensive change we can make during a visit.
Yes, indirectly. Pet hair adds to the lint load. It builds up in the screen, the vent and around the blower wheel, which reduces airflow and raises cabinet temperatures. Shake out pet bedding before washing, clean the screen every load, and have the vent cleaned more often than once a year.
Leave the house immediately and don't switch lights or appliances on or off. From a safe location, call SDG&E at 1-800-411-7343 or 911. Don't rely on smell alone if you hear hissing. Once the utility has cleared the leak, we can repair the dryer.
Local notes · Lemon Grove
A dryer is only as good as the duct behind it. In Lemon Grove, where about half of all homes were built between 1940 and 1969, laundry often ended up in a garage corner or a small utility room long after the house was framed. Vents in those setups run longer, take more turns and sometimes use flexible foil that crushes behind the machine. Restricted airflow causes most dryer complaints we see. We repair gas and electric dryers from Whirlpool, Maytag and GE to LG and Samsung.
A dryer heats air, pulls it through tumbling clothes, and pushes it out through the vent. If the exhaust can't leave freely, heat builds inside the cabinet, the high-limit thermostat and thermal fuse trip, and the cycle runs long. Many Lemon Grove laundry areas were added to houses built between 1940 and 1969, and the vent route reflects that: through a garage wall, up and over a ceiling, or along a side yard. Whirlpool's installation guidance lists a maximum run for 4-inch rigid metal duct and cuts that maximum for every elbow added, and the CPSC and NFPA both warn against plastic or foil duct. Heavy use speeds everything up. With three-person households, many dryers here run daily, and lint collects faster in the screen, the duct and the cabinet itself. Pet hair adds more. Summer matters too: with August highs near 82°F, a dryer in an unconditioned garage starts each load with warm intake air and a cabinet that sheds heat slowly. On Santa Ana days, very dry air and strong gusts can push debris into vent hoods. Failure to clean is the leading cause of home dryer fires in USFA data.
Symptom: Dryer runs but won't heat, or won't start at all. Cause: Overheating from a restricted vent, a crushed duct or a lint-packed cabinet trips the one-time fuse. Fix: We replace the fuse and, just as important, find and clear the restriction so it doesn't blow again.
Symptom: Clothes are still damp after a full timed cycle, and the laundry area feels hot. Cause: Crushed foil transition duct, a long vent run, a stuck hood flap, or coated moisture-sensor bars. Fix: Clean the vent, swap in rigid or semi-rigid metal duct, and clean the sensor bars.
Symptom: A rhythmic thump, squeal or scrape that gets worse with heavy loads like towels and bedding. Cause: Drum rollers, the idler pulley, the belt or the front glides wear with high cycle counts; rollers can also flat-spot. Fix: We replace the worn support parts together as a kit.
Symptom: The igniter glows, goes dark, and no flame appears, or the burner lights briefly and drops out. Cause: Weak gas valve coils, a failed flame sensor or a cracked igniter. Fix: We test and replace the failed component. If you smell gas, leave home and call SDG&E first.
Clean the lint screen before or after every load. NFPA recommends cleaning the vent at least once a year, and in a home that runs a load a day, check sooner if drying slows. Wash the lint screen with warm soapy water every few months if you use dryer sheets or fabric softener, since residue blocks airflow and coats the moisture sensor. Look at the outside hood while a load is running; the flap should open fully and you should feel strong airflow. A weak breeze means a restriction somewhere along the run.
We need space to pull the dryer forward and see the vent connection, so clear shelves, baskets and stored items around it. Know where the outside vent hood is; in older homes it may exit on a side yard or through the garage roof. For gas dryers, confirm the shutoff valve is accessible. Have the model and serial number from the door frame or back panel. Note how long a normal load of towels takes now, since that tells us how badly airflow is restricted. If pets live in the home, mention it.
Most dryer repairs are low to mid cost: fuses, thermostats, elements, igniters, belts and rollers. Dryers are commonly cited to last 10 to 13 years, and a well-vented machine tends to reach the upper end. Replacement makes more sense for older units with control or motor failures. Either way, a new dryer on a clogged vent will have the same problems.
