Frigidaire ranges
Frigidaire ranges are refreshingly honest machines: the brand publishes its F-code meanings on its own owner portal - F10 thermal runaway, F30/F31 probe faults, F90 door lock, F40/F41 cooktop lockout. When a range names its own failure, the visit starts halfway done.
A photo of the model label and the complete installation helps the team understand the configuration before the visit.

Start with the symptom
A symptom narrows the inspection; it does not identify the failed component. The $99 visit confirms the actual fault on the exact model before any repair is authorized.
Igniter or element and relay - the halves of a range fail separately.
Thermal fuse and door lock - the predictable aftermath, fixed routinely.
Moisture and cap seating on gas; a dried base usually ends it.
Probe drift measured against the chart - calibration or replacement, decided by data.
The surface relay and limiter - taken seriously as a safety call.
Rails and glides - small, real, and worth fixing properly.
Series and model numbers
Fuel and tier change the parts, not the language - the F-code plus the model plate names the failed circuit across the whole line.
Model label
The serial plate is on the oven frame behind the door or at the storage-drawer opening - open the drawer or door and check the frame edge. Photograph the complete label — the full model and serial identify parts and production year better than the series name alone.
Indicators and alerts
For any message not shown, use the manual for the exact model rather than a generic list.
Frigidaire diagnostics
Every code above appears in Frigidaire's own owner-portal error guide - F10, F13, F31 and F40/F41 each have dedicated official articles. Longer third-party lists that contradict the official guide are excluded on principle.
Preventive service and owner care
Alpha Pro provides preventive and general maintenance for Frigidaire ranges. The appliance design determines which procedures are accessible and appropriate.
Owner maintenance
Professional maintenance
A professional visit can evaluate accessible systems without assuming every procedure applies to every model.
Diagnosis before parts
Call or book with the model label, exact behavior, any displayed codes, photos, and access notes.
The technician examines the reported condition in context: ignition, flame quality, temperatures, elements, controls, door fit, and relevant components.
Findings and proposed work are explained before repair proceeds. The residential diagnostic is credited toward an approved repair.
Service area and operating context
Poway sits in the hills off I-15 - ranch properties of Old Poway, gated Green Valley, newer streets off Espola Road. Garage refrigerators fight summer heat, canyon dust clogs condensers, and hard water leaves scale in ice makers and washer valves.
Inland heat and hard water set the pattern here: garage refrigerators work hardest in summer, dust clogs condensers, and scale builds in ice makers, dishwashers and washer valves.
During maintenance, accessible metal surfaces can be inspected for corrosion, moisture exposure, or conditions that may warrant attention. Location alone does not establish the cause of a failure.
A better repair decision
There is no honest universal age or price threshold. Start with the exact model and a diagnosis.
Local notes · Poway
Poway calls itself the City in the Country, and its kitchens reflect it. Most homes are large single-family houses built between 1970 and 1999, with plenty of room to cook for a family of three or more. Summers are hot and dry, dust blows in off trails and arenas, and Santa Ana winds bring ash in fire years. For a Frigidaire range, that combination shows up in the oven more than on the cooktop: igniters, sensors, controls and door locks carry the most stress here.
Poway's hot season runs from about July 1 to late September, with August highs averaging 84 degrees and far hotter days in heat waves. Muggy days are rare, so moisture is seldom the problem it is at the coast. Heat and dust are. A self-clean cycle on a hot afternoon asks the control board and door lock to work above a very hot cavity while the kitchen itself is warm, which is when many locks and relays fail. Fine dust is the second factor. Poway has more than 78 miles of trails where horses have priority, plus barns and arenas, and that dust settles into burner ports and the air openings around a gas bake burner. A partly blocked port gives a lazy, yellow flame. Santa Ana winds from September to April add dry grit, and fire years add ash; major parts of Poway were evacuated in both the 2003 Cedar Fire and the 2007 Witch Creek Fire. Hot-surface oven igniters also weaken with age. In a range from the 1990s or 2000s, a tired igniter is one of the most common reasons an oven takes forever to heat.
Symptom: The igniter glows but the burner takes minutes to light, or never does; sometimes it lights with a puff. Cause: A weak hot-surface igniter. It must draw enough current to open the gas valve, and aging igniters glow without reaching that point. Dirty burner ports add to it. Fix: We measure igniter current, replace the igniter or valve, and clean the bake burner ports.
Symptom: The oven shuts down and shows F10, often on a hot day or during self-clean. Cause: An oven sensor reading out of range, a relay stuck on the control board, or heat-damaged wiring. Fix: Reset power for 30 seconds. If F10 returns, we test the sensor, relay board and harness and replace the failed part.
Symptom: Surface flames are lazy, lift off, or burn yellow and leave soot on pans. Cause: Dust or spills blocking burner ports, a cap out of place, or incorrect orifices after a conversion between natural gas and propane. Fix: We clean ports, reseat caps, and verify orifices and regulator for the gas type.
Symptom: F90 to F94 codes, or the latch won't release after cleaning. Cause: A failed lock motor or switch, stressed by cleaning heat that is harder to shed in a warm summer kitchen. Fix: We try UNLOCK and a 30-second power reset, then replace the lock assembly and check nearby wiring for heat damage.
Plan around the heat. Run self-clean in winter or spring, not during a July or September heat wave. Keep burner ports clear; dust from trails and yards settles on the cooktop even when it is not in use. After a Santa Ana or smoke event, wipe the cooktop and grates and check that each flame is blue and even. Ports on the oven's bake burner collect dust too, which is one reason slow heating appears after windy months. SDG&E recommends a yearly inspection of gas appliances and offers no-cost safety checks.
Poway properties range from tract streets in Rancho Arbolitos to larger lots in Green Valley and on equestrian roads. If your home sits on a private or dirt road, or behind a gate, tell us when booking so the technician arrives at the right entrance. Find the model and serial numbers behind the storage drawer, and note whether the range uses natural gas or propane. Describe how long the oven takes to heat or which code appears. If you smell gas at any point, get everyone outside and call SDG&E or 9-1-1 from there.
An igniter, sensor, lock or burner repair keeps most Frigidaire ranges going for years, and those are generally cost-effective. A gas range is often cited as lasting around 15 years. If yours is near that age and needs a control board plus other parts, replacement deserves a look. We give you both options after the $99 diagnostic, which is credited toward the repair.

Yes. It is non-refundable and credited toward the total repair cost if you proceed. There are no residential exceptions.
A 90-day labor warranty and a 1-year parts warranty, both starting on the date the repair is completed.
No. A symptom narrows the search, but the diagnostic visit on the exact model confirms the actual fault before any repair is authorized.
Officially: thermal runaway - the control reads dangerously high oven temperature. Cut power and book; the probe and relay board are the two documented suspects.
The official cooktop lockout. Kill power at the breaker for 30 seconds; if the code returns, the surface control board needs diagnosis.
The hot-surface igniter is the usual answer: it glows but weakens below the current needed to open the gas valve. It is tested by amperage, not appearance.
On the oven frame behind the door or at the storage-drawer opening.
They share a control heritage and much of the dialect, but the visit always reads the code against the exact model - assumptions across brands are how misdiagnoses happen.
Very likely it is weak rather than dead. A hot-surface igniter must pass enough current to open the gas valve. As it ages, it still glows but doesn't reach that level. We measure the current to confirm. Don't keep trying to light the oven if it lights with a loud puff.
Yellow flames usually mean the burner isn't getting the right mix of air and gas. Dust in the ports, a misplaced cap, or wrong orifices after a gas-type conversion are the usual causes. Clean the ports first. If the flames stay yellow or leave soot, have the range checked.
It is safe, but it is hard on the range. Self-clean heats the cavity far beyond baking temperature, and on a hot day the control and door lock run even hotter. Choosing a cooler month lowers the chance of an F10 code or a stuck lock.
Yes. Ash and fine grit settle on grates, caps and burner ports. Once the range is cool, wipe the cooktop and grates, lift the caps and clean the burner bases, and clear ports with a toothpick. Then light each burner and check for a steady blue flame.
