GE dishwashers
GE dishwashers are among the few mainstream machines whose codes are fully published by the manufacturer: the classic C1-C8 drain-and-fill set on older controls, and the modern vocabulary - H2O, FTD, LEAK DETECTED, PF - on current GDT and GDF machines. Every code below comes straight from GE's own support pages.
A photo of the model label and the complete installation helps the team understand the configuration before the visit.
Top-control built-ins - GDT550 through GDT670, plastic and stainless tubs.
Front-control siblings sharing the same hydraulics and codes.
Dry Boost, bottle jets and third racks ride on the same platform.
The C-code GSD generation - still washing dishes across San Diego after decades.
Start with the symptom
A symptom narrows the inspection; it does not identify the failed component. The $99 visit confirms the actual fault on the exact model before any repair is authorized.
The FTD path: hose, air gap, disposer knockout, then the pump - in GE's own order.
Rinse aid and Dry Boost settings first, heater circuit second.
Spray arms, filter and water temperature - C6's lesson applies to every generation.
Door latch and interlock - the most common no-start on GDT/GDF.
San Diego hard water versus detergent and rinse-aid dosing.
Heater and wiring isolation - taken seriously, found methodically.
Series and model numbers
The generation decides the vocabulary: C-codes on the GSD era, plain-language codes on GDT/GDF - and GE documents both, which makes diagnosis a confirmation exercise.
Model label
The rating plate is on the left side of the tub or door jamb - open the door and check the tub wall's front edge. Photograph the full model and serial. Photograph the complete label — the full model and serial identify parts and production year better than the series name alone.
Indicators and alerts
For any message not shown, use the manual for the exact model rather than a generic list.
GE diagnostics
Every code above is published on GE Appliances' official support pages, including the full C1-C8 legacy table and the modern H2O/FTD/LEAK vocabulary - a level of documentation few brands match, and the reason nothing here needed a third-party guess.
Preventive service and owner care
Alpha Pro provides preventive and general maintenance for GE dishwashers. The appliance design determines which procedures are accessible and appropriate.
Owner maintenance
Professional maintenance
A professional visit can evaluate accessible systems without assuming every procedure applies to every model.
Diagnosis before parts
Call or book with the model label, exact behavior, any displayed codes, photos, and access notes.
The technician examines the reported condition in context: fill, wash, drain, drying, controls, leaks, and relevant components.
Findings and proposed work are explained before repair proceeds. The residential diagnostic is credited toward an approved repair.
Service area and operating context
From established west-side streets to Otay Ranch's new communities, Chula Vista runs every appliance generation - big families, big laundry loads and builder suites hitting their first repairs.
South Bay and East County bring summer heat, hard water and hard-working family appliances - practical repairs with strong parts availability are the local priority.
During maintenance, accessible metal surfaces can be inspected for corrosion, moisture exposure, or conditions that may warrant attention. Location alone does not establish the cause of a failure.
A better repair decision
There is no honest universal age or price threshold. Start with the exact model and a diagnosis.
Local notes · Chula Vista
Around a third of Chula Vista's homes were built in 2000 or later, mostly in the eastern master-planned communities. Many still have the dishwasher that came with the house. A GE from that era may now be 15 years old or more, and its seals, pumps and sensors are showing their age. Chula Vista households are also large, averaging about 3.1 people, so these machines have logged a lot of cycles. The question we answer most here is simple: fix the original or start over?
Eastlake began in 1986, Rancho del Rey in 1989 and Otay Ranch in 1999, and building continued in Millenia and Rolling Hills Ranch. About 34 percent of Chula Vista housing dates from 2000 or later. Homes from 2000 to 2010 may still run their original appliances, which puts a lot of GE dishwashers in the 15 to 25 year range. At that age, rubber seals harden, pump bearings wear, and the pressure and temperature sensors drift. Heavy use speeds it up: the city averages about 3.1 people per household, among the highest in the county. Water depends on the side of town. Otay Water District serves the east and reported 9.4 grains per gallon in 2025, hard by USGS terms. Sweetwater Authority serves western and central neighborhoods and reported 193 mg/L, about 11.3 grains, which counts as very hard. Either one leaves scale on a heater over fifteen years. The west side is milder, but every September brings hot days; the local record is 103 F.
Symptom: Warped cabinet base, damp floor, or a LEAK DETECTED message on models with leak protection. Cause: Door gasket, pump seal or hose connections hardened with age. Fix: Find the exact source, replace the seal or hose, and dry the base. We check the subfloor if the leak ran for a while.
Symptom: PrS on the display; the cycle stops or will not start. Cause: The pressure sensor or its wiring sends an invalid signal, sometimes from debris in the sump. Fix: Clean the sump, check the connector and wiring, and replace the sensor if it tests out of range.
Symptom: Dishes come out cool and wet; C6 or C7 appears. Cause: Years of calcium scale on the heating element, or a temperature sensor that has drifted or failed outright. Fix: Test the heater and sensor circuit, replace what failed, and descale the tub.
Symptom: The motor hums but nothing sprays. Cause: A worn circulation pump, or pump seals that dried and stuck while the machine sat unused during a trip or a move. Fix: Free or replace the pump. GE advises running at least weekly to keep seals from drying.
An older GE rewards small habits. Clean the filter monthly, or more often with a big family. Look under the door and around the kick plate after a few loads for dampness; catching a seal early protects the cabinet. Keep rinse aid in the dispenser whichever district serves you. If you ever see water at the base, shut the valve under the sink and call before running it again. On Sweetwater water, descale a little more often than on Otay water.
Eastern communities often have HOA gates and tight guest parking, and older western streets can be crowded on weekends. Let us know the gate process and where to park. Tell us whether the dishwasher is the original to the house, and have the model and serial number from the tub edge. A photo of the code, and of any water damage, helps us plan. If a family member will be home instead of you, share their phone number with the booking.
At 15 years or more, an original GE is near the end of the typical 10 to 13 year life for dishwashers. A seal, valve or pump is still a reasonable repair. A failed tub or a control board combined with a pump is usually the point to replace. The $99 diagnostic, applied to the repair if you proceed, gives you the facts before you decide.

Yes. It is non-refundable and credited toward the total repair cost if you proceed. There are no residential exceptions.
A 90-day labor warranty and a 1-year parts warranty, both starting on the date the repair is completed.
No. A symptom narrows the search, but the diagnostic visit on the exact model confirms the actual fault before any repair is authorized.
GE's official low-water code. Check the supply and inlet hose per the official list; if it persists, the valve and water sensing are tested on-site.
Failure to drain - GE's official code. Hose, air gap and disposer knockout are checked first, then the drain pump directly.
On Floor Protect models that is leak protection - GE cancels the cycle. The leak is found and fixed before anything is cleared.
On the left side of the tub or door jamb - open the door and photograph the plate.
Yes - GE still documents their C1-C8 codes, parts remain available, and the platform is famously repairable.
It depends on the failure. Seals, inlet valves and drain pumps are affordable and worth doing on an older GE. A cracked tub or a control board failing along with a pump on a unit past ten years usually points to replacement. We tell you which case you are in after testing.
PrS means the control is getting an invalid signal from the pressure sensor, which reads the water level. Debris in the sump, a loose connector or a failed sensor can cause it. Unplugging the machine for a minute can clear a one-time glitch. If it comes back, the sensor or wiring needs testing.
Eastern neighborhoods like Eastlake and Otay Ranch are generally served by Otay Water District. Western and central areas are served by Sweetwater Authority. Sweetwater's water is harder, so descale more often there. Both are hard enough to need rinse aid.
Look for a swollen cabinet base, a soft spot in the floor in front of the door, or a musty smell. Some GE models display a leak message. Turn off the valve under the sink and call. We trace the leak to its source and check how far the water went.
