Thermador dishwashers
Thermador's Star-Sapphire, Sapphire and Emerald dishwashers ride the proven BSH platform - which means real, officially published E-codes instead of folklore. E15 leak protection and the E24 drain family account for most calls, and both have documented, testable paths.
A photo of the model label and the complete installation helps the team understand the configuration before the visit.
StarDry with zeolite drying, glow projection and the top LCD - the coded flagship.
Premium wash systems and Chef's Tool Drawer on the same E-code platform.
The accessible line, sharing hydraulics and code dialect.
Older DWHD machines, still coded, still serviceable.
Start with the symptom
A symptom narrows the inspection; it does not identify the failed component. The $99 visit confirms the actual fault on the exact model before any repair is authorized.
The E24 family - filter, pump, hose, air gap in documented order.
StarDry zeolite health on Star-Sapphire; rinse aid and heater on the rest.
San Diego hard water versus the built-in softener settings.
Photograph the code - the LCD is the best witness this platform offers.
Panel weight and latch alignment on integrated installs.
E14/E16 territory - supply, valve and flow meter tested in order.
Series and model numbers
One BSH-rooted platform in three trims - the E-Nr from the door edge decides parts, and the code on the LCD decides where the visit starts.
Model label
The model tag (E-Nr) is on the top edge of the dishwasher door, visible when the door is open. Photograph the full tag including the FD number - both are needed for exact parts. Photograph the complete label — the full model and serial identify parts and production year better than the series name alone.
Indicators and alerts
For any message not shown, use the manual for the exact model rather than a generic list.
Thermador diagnostics
Every code above appears in Thermador's own published dishwasher error-code list; E09's element meaning is additionally confirmed by independent service sources on the shared BSH platform. Codes are read from the display, not guessed from symptoms.
Preventive service and owner care
Alpha Pro provides preventive and general maintenance for Thermador dishwashers. The appliance design determines which procedures are accessible and appropriate.
Owner maintenance
Professional maintenance
A professional visit can evaluate accessible systems without assuming every procedure applies to every model.
Diagnosis before parts
Call or book with the model label, exact behavior, any displayed codes, photos, and access notes.
The technician examines the reported condition in context: fill, wash, drain, drying, controls, leaks, and relevant components.
Findings and proposed work are explained before repair proceeds. The residential diagnostic is credited toward an approved repair.
Service area and operating context
From established west-side streets to Otay Ranch's new communities, Chula Vista runs every appliance generation - big families, big laundry loads and builder suites hitting their first repairs.
South Bay and East County bring summer heat, hard water and hard-working family appliances - practical repairs with strong parts availability are the local priority.
During maintenance, accessible metal surfaces can be inspected for corrosion, moisture exposure, or conditions that may warrant attention. Location alone does not establish the cause of a failure.
A better repair decision
There is no honest universal age or price threshold. Start with the exact model and a diagnosis.
Local notes · Chula Vista
Chula Vista gets its water from two different agencies, and that matters more for a Thermador than most owners realize. Eastlake, Otay Ranch and Rolling Hills Ranch are served by the Otay Water District. Western and central neighborhoods get Sweetwater Authority water. The two supplies differ in hardness, and Thermador dishwashers with Crystal Protect ask you to enter a hardness level so the built-in softener can do its job. Set it wrong and you get film, spots and eventually a limescale code. We service Thermador dishwashers in every part of the city.
Otay's 2025 figures put its system average at 9.4 grains per gallon. Sweetwater's 2025 report lists an average of 193 mg/L, or about 11.3 grains. Both count as hard, and Sweetwater's number crosses into the very hard range on the USGS scale. Otay also blends water from several treatment plants, so its hardness moves with the mix. For a Thermador, that gap changes the numbers you program. A softener set for east-side water will under-treat on the west side, and calcium then settles on the heat pump, the spray arms and your glassware. Household size adds to the load. Chula Vista averages about 3.1 people per home, among the highest in the county, so a dishwasher here often runs more than once a day. Housing is also newer than in much of the region, with roughly a third of homes built in 2000 or later. Plenty of those east-side kitchens were finished with premium appliances, and the originals are now well out of warranty. Townhomes and apartments make up a large share of the stock too, so a leak that reaches the base pan can become a neighbor's problem fast.
Symptom: Cloudy glasses, white residue on the tub walls, and in time a limescale code. Cause: The softener hardness setting does not match the local supply, the salt reservoir on a Crystal Protect model has run dry, or rinse aid is empty. Fix: We confirm which agency serves your address, set hardness to match, refill salt and rinse aid, and run a descale. If scale has reached the heat pump, we test it before anything else.
Symptom: The machine hums, then stops with little water in the tub or a fill code. Cause: A kinked or damaged inlet hose, a supply valve under the sink that is only partly open, or a failed flow meter. Thermador calls for a supply of about 10 liters per minute. Fix: We check the valve and hose first, then replace the inlet valve, the AquaStop hose or the flow meter as needed.
Symptom: Dishwasher halts mid-cycle, the drain pump runs on its own, E15 on the display. Cause: Water in the base pan has lifted the float switch. Common sources are the door seal, inlet valve, hoses, the pump or sump seal, or oversudsing from hand-washing soap. Fix: Shut off the water supply. We trace the leak, dry the base, reset the float and replace the failed seal or part.
Symptom: Dirty water left in the bottom after the cycle ends. Cause: Clogged filter, blocked or loose drain pump cover, kinked drain hose, or a disposal connection still plugged after a new disposal install. Fix: We clear the filter, pump and air gap, check the hose routing and replace the drain pump if it tests bad.
Start by finding out whether Otay or Sweetwater serves your home. Your water bill names it. Then set the Thermador hardness level from that agency's latest report. Thermador's own guidance is to descale every three to six months, and in a large household on Sweetwater water, sooner is better. Keep the filter clean with lukewarm water and a soft brush. Watch the two refill indicators: 5 for softener salt and 6 for rinse aid. A full rinse aid dispenser lasts about 30 washes, so a family running daily loads will refill it often.
East-side master-planned neighborhoods such as Otay Ranch and Millenia often have HOA rules and guest parking limits, so share any gate code or parking instructions when you book. In townhomes and apartments, let us know the unit number and whether the dishwasher shares a wall with a neighbor, since a leak repair may involve checking below the unit. Have the model and serial number ready from the door edge, write down any code, and take a photo of the display. If you know your water agency, tell us that too, because we use it when setting the softener.
A Thermador from an early-2000s build can still be a strong machine. Fill valves, drain pumps, seals and door parts are sensible repairs, and the unit often sits behind a matching cabinet panel that a replacement would need to fit. The case for replacing grows when an aging unit needs a heat pump and a control board together. We price the actual fault during the $99 diagnostic, which is credited to the repair.

We take requests across Chula Vista (ZIP 91910, 91911, 91913-91915). Share gate codes, parking or building access when booking so the technician can plan the visit.
Yes. It is non-refundable and credited toward the total repair cost if you proceed. There are no residential exceptions.
A 90-day labor warranty and a 1-year parts warranty, both starting on the date the repair is completed.
No. A symptom narrows the search, but the diagnostic visit on the exact model confirms the actual fault before any repair is authorized.
Leak protection: water reached the base pan and the float cut normal operation. Close the supply and book - the code stays until the leak is found and the pan is dried.
StarDry uses a zeolite chamber with its own heater and fan, and both have official codes (E2120, E2130). The system is testable - drying complaints on this machine are diagnosable, not mysterious.
The E24 drain family - filter and pump - followed by heater faults (E04/E09). Both are documented, parts-backed repairs.
On the top edge of the door, visible when open. Photograph the E-Nr and FD number together.
Yes - earlier DWHD generations share the coded platform, and parts are ordered from the exact E-Nr.
In general, Otay serves eastern Chula Vista, including Eastlake, Otay Ranch and Rolling Hills Ranch, while Sweetwater serves western and central neighborhoods. Boundaries do not follow neighborhood names exactly, so check the agency printed on your water bill before you program the Thermador softener.
Indicator 5 is the salt refill signal on models with the Crystal Protect softener. Add dishwasher salt to the reservoir in the tub floor, not table salt, and wipe up any spill. Indicator 6 is the rinse aid signal. Running without salt lets hard water scale the heat pump and film your glassware.
Thermador needs a steady supply of about 10 liters per minute. A partly closed shutoff valve, a kinked inlet hose or a failing flow meter can all cause fill codes such as E14 or E16. Check that the valve under the sink is fully open. If the code returns, the inlet valve or flow meter needs testing.
It can, which is why E15 leak protection matters in townhomes and apartments. When water reaches the base pan, the float switch stops the cycle and the drain pump runs to clear it. Turn off the water supply and call for service instead of restarting the machine repeatedly.
