Clairemont coverage
Clairemont's mid-century homes often pair original kitchens with newer appliances - installation quirks from decades of remodels are normal, and we work with them daily.
Central San Diego mixes condos, high-rises and mid-century homes: building access, compact formats and remodel-era installations shape the visit as much as the appliance.
Typical repair pricing
Estimated dishwasher repair pricing for common work in standard installations. The exact scope and total are confirmed after diagnosis and before authorized repair work begins.
$99 residential diagnostic fee: non-refundable and credited toward the total repair cost when you proceed. Parts, model, installation, access and the confirmed repair scope can change the final total.

This parent page helps route a dishwasher request. A symptom, feature name or brand link does not by itself identify a failed part or confirm support for every model, configuration or repair.
Note when water remains and which cycle stage was last observed. Do not infer a pump, hose or control failure from the symptom alone.
Stop using the dishwasher and note the safely visible location. Avoid standing water near a cord, outlet or electrical component.
Note the selected cycle, load pattern, detergent and safely observable water behavior. Those details do not by themselves identify a failed component.
Describe the visible condition and when the issue occurs. Do not force the door, latch, rack or dispenser.
Note when the behavior occurs and any complete display message. A sound or cycle symptom alone does not prove a specific part failed.
Use existing paperwork or a safely visible label to identify the dishwasher. Do not pull out built-in equipment or touch wiring, water lines, drain connections or mounting hardware.
San Diego installations
Installation style changes access, parts and the service conversation—identify yours before the visit.
The most common San Diego setup. Panel-ready models add cabinetry steps—mention a custom panel when scheduling.
Single and double drawers service differently than doors. Share the exact model label from the drawer edge.
Countertop and rolling units are serviced too. Confirm the model and how it connects to water.
San Diego's mineral-heavy water scales spray arms, filters and heaters. White film alone is not a failed part—diagnosis separates scale from genuine faults.
Safe owner checks
Stop using the dishwasher. Do not touch the unit, cord, outlet or standing water when an electrical hazard may be present.
Do not reproduce the problem or touch the unit, cord, outlet or standing water. If there is fire, smoke or any doubt, leave the home and call 911.
Models and maintenance
A model-family name alone does not establish parts, code meanings or repair eligibility. Share the complete label and installation details before model-specific guidance is used.
Photograph the complete model and serial label only when it is visible without moving the dishwasher, removing panels or reaching near wiring, hoses or water connections.
Follow the matching owner guide for detergent, dispenser, approved cleaning and exterior care. Do not use a generic cleaning procedure as a diagnostic step.
Do not disconnect hoses, touch valves or wiring, bypass the latch, remove the toe kick or pull a built-in dishwasher from cabinetry. Share known access and installation details when scheduling.
Our Work

The visit establishes the proposed repair scope. Review the estimate before authorizing work.
Work proceeds after approval. Any new scope requires separate approval before it is added.
Display messages
No new dishwasher error-code library is introduced by this parent-page candidate. Keep the complete message with the model label; do not transfer a definition or reset instruction between brands or models.
Commercial dishwasher requests have a distinct commercial dishwasher service page. It is not merged into this residential parent identity.

Clairemont's City water is very hard, around 14 grains per gallon in the 2025 report. Minerals deposit on glassware and inside the machine as the water heats. Use rinse aid, set the machine's hardness option high if it has one, and descale regularly. If film persists, the heater or spray arms may already be scaled.
Not necessarily. A slow fill often starts at the supply: a partly closed or corroded shutoff valve under the sink, a clogged inlet valve screen, or low pressure in older household plumbing. We check each of those before replacing parts. A failed inlet valve is also common and a straightforward fix.
A small amount in the sump is normal on many models. Standing water over the filter is not. Start by cleaning the filter. If that does not fix it, the drain pump, the drain hose or the disposer connection is the likely cause, and we can clear or replace it.
It usually does. Water-industry testing found that softened water let dishwashers use up to about 70 percent less detergent with equal or better results, and softer water scales the heater less. If you do not add a softener, compensate with rinse aid, the machine's hardness setting and regular descaling.
Local notes · Clairemont
Clairemont's kitchens were born all-electric in the early 1950s, and most have been remodeled at least once since. The dishwasher is often the appliance that was fitted in later, tied into sink plumbing and shutoff valves that are decades older than the machine. Add City of San Diego water at roughly 14 grains per gallon, and you get the two things that end most dishwashers early: scale and supply problems. We repair built-in dishwashers from Bosch, Whirlpool, GE, KitchenAid and Miele across 92117, 92111 and 92110.
Hardness is calcium and magnesium carbonate dissolved in the water, and those minerals come out of solution faster as water warms. A dishwasher heats every fill, so it is the appliance in a Clairemont home that scales first and worst. The City's 2025 report shows its Alvarado, Miramar and Otay plants averaging 237, 242 and 243 mg/L, or about 13.8 to 14.2 grains per gallon. It does not say which plant supplies which street, but all three are 'very hard' by the USGS measure. Inside the machine, the mineral forms a crust on the heating element or flow-through heater, narrows spray-arm holes, and chokes the fine screen on the inlet valve. A scaled heater takes longer to reach temperature, and many models then post a heater or fill error. The older plumbing adds a second layer. Supply valves and pipes from the 1950s and 1960s can shed sediment and deliver low or uneven pressure, which the machine reads as a slow fill. Before we replace a valve or board, we check the angle stop under the sink and the drain loop that ties into the disposer.
Symptom: Cloudy glasses, white film, dishes still wet, cycles running long, or a heating error code. Cause: Mineral deposits insulate the heater and block spray holes; rinse aid and hardness settings are often left at the factory default. Fix: We descale, clean the spray arms, set the machine's water-hardness option to match 14-grain water, and replace the heater if it has failed.
Symptom: Fill error, a humming machine with little water, or a cycle that stalls early. Cause: Sediment on the inlet valve screen, a half-open old angle stop, or low pressure in aging supply lines. Fix: We check pressure at the valve, clean or replace the screen and inlet valve, and recommend a new quarter-turn shutoff if the old one is corroded.
Symptom: Standing water in the tub, odor, or a drain error. Cause: Food, labels, seeds or broken glass in the filter and sump, or a kinked drain hose behind a retrofitted cabinet. Fix: Clean the filter and sump, clear the drain pump, straighten or reroute the hose, and replace the pump if it is damaged.
Symptom: Water on the floor or a leak-sensor code. Cause: Worn door seal, pump seals, a cracked hose, or oversudsing from hand dish soap. Fix: We locate the source, replace the seal, hose or pump, and dry the base so the float sensor resets.
Bosch and GE recommend cleaning the filter every few months, monthly with heavy use, and descaling several times a year. On water this hard, lean toward the frequent end. Keep rinse aid topped up, and if your machine has a hardness setting, set it high. Run the kitchen faucet hot before you start so the first fill is not cold. Machines that sit unused dry out their seals, so run it at least weekly.
We will need to pull the kickplate and often slide the dishwasher out, so clear the floor in front and empty the racks. Please also clear the cabinet under the sink; that is where the shutoff, supply line and drain connection live. The model and serial number are on a label along the edge of the door or tub. Note the error code or symptom and when it started. If the kitchen was remodeled, tell us roughly when; it helps us anticipate how the supply and drain were plumbed.
Pumps, valves, heaters, latches and seals are standard repairs and usually worth doing. Dishwasher lifespans are commonly cited at 10 to 13 years, so a failed control board or cracked tub on a machine near that age is a fair time to replace. Premium machines built to last longer often justify more repair. Our $99 diagnostic, credited toward the work, gives you the full picture before you decide.
