Service scope

Start with the dishwasher and the behavior you see.

This parent page helps route a dishwasher request. A symptom, feature name or brand link does not by itself identify a failed part or confirm support for every model, configuration or repair.

Not draining or water remains

Note when water remains and which cycle stage was last observed. Do not infer a pump, hose or control failure from the symptom alone.

Leak or water outside the unit

Stop using the dishwasher and note the safely visible location. Avoid standing water near a cord, outlet or electrical component.

Dishes not clean or residue remains

Note the selected cycle, load pattern, detergent and safely observable water behavior. Those details do not by themselves identify a failed component.

Door, latch, rack or dispenser concern

Describe the visible condition and when the issue occurs. Do not force the door, latch, rack or dispenser.

Noise, cycle stops or runs long

Note when the behavior occurs and any complete display message. A sound or cycle symptom alone does not prove a specific part failed.

Built-in, drawer or portable configuration

Use existing paperwork or a safely visible label to identify the dishwasher. Do not pull out built-in equipment or touch wiring, water lines, drain connections or mounting hardware.

San Diego installations

Know your dishwasher setup.

Installation style changes access, parts and the service conversation—identify yours before the visit.

Built-in undercounter

The most common San Diego setup. Panel-ready models add cabinetry steps—mention a custom panel when scheduling.

Drawer-style

Single and double drawers service differently than doors. Share the exact model label from the drawer edge.

Portable and compact

Countertop and rolling units are serviced too. Confirm the model and how it connects to water.

Hard water shows up in dishwashers first.

San Diego's mineral-heavy water scales spray arms, filters and heaters. White film alone is not a failed part—diagnosis separates scale from genuine faults.

Safe owner checks

Useful details—without opening panels, moving or running unsafe tests.

Leak or standing water near electricity?

Stop using the dishwasher. Do not touch the unit, cord, outlet or standing water when an electrical hazard may be present.

Smoke, sparking, burning odor or exposed wiring?

Do not reproduce the problem or touch the unit, cord, outlet or standing water. If there is fire, smoke or any doubt, leave the home and call 911.

USFA fire safety
  • Note the selected cycle, when the behavior begins, water or leak location, door behavior, sounds and any complete displayed message.
  • Photograph the full display message and the complete model/serial label only if safely visible.
  • Share whether the unit is built-in, drawer or portable and whether a power interruption, plumbing change, installation change or prior service preceded the concern.
  • Do not remove the toe kick or panels, touch wiring or hoses, bypass the latch, enter diagnostic modes or pull a built-in unit from cabinetry.
  • For routine use, follow the matching owner guide. Do not use drain chemicals, unverified cleaning procedures or a generic reset as a substitute for model-specific guidance.

Models and maintenance

Use the complete model label—then keep maintenance model-safe.

A model-family name alone does not establish parts, code meanings or repair eligibility. Share the complete label and installation details before model-specific guidance is used.

Find the model label safely

Photograph the complete model and serial label only when it is visible without moving the dishwasher, removing panels or reaching near wiring, hoses or water connections.

Keep routine care model-safe

Follow the matching owner guide for detergent, dispenser, approved cleaning and exterior care. Do not use a generic cleaning procedure as a diagnostic step.

Protect the installation

Do not disconnect hoses, touch valves or wiring, bypass the latch, remove the toe kick or pull a built-in dishwasher from cabinetry. Share known access and installation details when scheduling.

Our Work

How our dishwasher service works.

  1. Describe and identify

Share the appliance, installation, model label and observed concern when requesting service.

  2. Diagnose and review

The visit establishes the proposed repair scope. Review the estimate before authorizing work.

  3. Approve and complete

Work proceeds after approval. Any new scope requires separate approval before it is added.

Display messages

A dishwasher code needs the exact model context.

No new dishwasher error-code library is introduced by this parent-page candidate. Keep the complete message with the model label; do not transfer a definition or reset instruction between brands or models.

Commercial dishwasher requests have a distinct commercial dishwasher service page. It is not merged into this residential parent identity.

Before requesting service

Helpful dishwasher-service questions.

Does the $99 residential diagnostic fee always apply?

Yes. It is non-refundable and credited toward the total repair cost if you proceed. There are no residential exceptions.

Do you service my street in Kearny Mesa & Serra Mesa?

We take requests across Kearny Mesa & Serra Mesa (ZIP 92123). Share gate codes, parking or building access when booking so the technician can plan the visit.

Should I reset a dishwasher after a display message?

Do not use a general page as a model-specific reset guide. Keep the exact display message and complete model label for the service discussion.

What should I do if water is near electrical components?

Stop using the dishwasher and avoid touching the unit, cord, outlet or standing water. If there is smoke, fire or immediate danger, leave and call 911.

Should I pull out a built-in dishwasher or bypass its latch?

No. Do not remove panels, touch wiring or hoses, bypass the latch or move a built-in unit. Describe the visible concern and installation instead.

Does a brand link confirm support for my model?

No. The existing brand pages help route the request; the exact appliance, model, installation and requested scope still need confirmation.

Can I visit or arrange an appliance drop-off?

Visits are by appointment, and appliance drop-off is available by prior arrangement. Coordinate before arriving.

How do I get rid of the white film on my glasses?

Film is almost always mineral deposit from hard water. Set the dishwasher's hardness setting correctly, keep rinse aid full, and run a descaler every few months. If film persists after that, the heater may not be reaching temperature or the fill may be short, which we can test.

Does it help to install a water softener?

It helps a lot with scale on the heater and valve, and testing has shown softened water lets you use much less detergent. It is not required, but on water this hard it reduces maintenance. Some dishwashers also have a built-in softener with a salt reservoir; keep it filled.

My dishwasher hums but does not fill. What is wrong?

Check that the supply valve under the sink is open. After that, a scaled inlet valve screen or failed valve is the common cause. A machine unused for a long time can also have stuck pump seals. Both need a technician.

Why does my dishwasher smell bad?

Trapped food in the filter and sump is the usual reason. Clean the filter, check for standing water after a cycle, and run a hot cycle with a cleaner. Persistent odor with standing water points to a drain pump or hose clog.

Dishwasher Repair in Kearny Mesa

If your glasses come out with a chalky haze, your dishwasher is showing you the water. City of San Diego supply on Kearny Mesa averages around 240 mg/L of hardness, and hot wash water drops that calcium faster than cold. The same film you see on glassware forms on the heater, the inlet screen and the spray arm holes you do not see. We repair dishwashers from Bosch, Whirlpool, KitchenAid, GE and Miele in homes and apartments throughout 92111 and 92123.

What 14 Grains of Hardness Does Inside a Dishwasher

The City's 2025 report shows its three treatment plants averaging 237 to 243 mg/L, or about 13.8 to 14.2 grains per gallon. The plant serving any given street is not listed, but every figure lands well above the USGS 180 mg/L line for very hard water. Inside a dishwasher, three things follow. First, calcium and magnesium carbonate precipitate faster as the heater brings water up to wash temperature, so scale builds on exposed elements and flow-through heaters until the machine throws a heater fault or runs long. Second, scale narrows the inlet valve screen, so fills slow down and some models flag a water supply error. Third, spray arm jets partly close, so upper-rack items stay dirty. Softened water lets you cut detergent sharply; testing cited by the Water Quality Research Foundation found up to about 70 percent less detergent gave equal or better results. Use counts matter as well: a household that runs a load every day wears door latches, rack wheels and pump seals faster. The new mixed-use buildings along Convoy and Clairemont Mesa Boulevard tend to use built-in kitchen packages, where a panel-ready dishwasher can mean tighter service access.

Dishwasher Problems We Diagnose on the Mesa

Scaled heater and slow fill

Symptom: White film, cloudy glasses, long cycles, heater or fill error codes. Cause: Mineral scale coating the heating element or flow-through heater and clogging the inlet valve screen. Fix: Descale, clean the inlet screen, set the water hardness and rinse aid dispenser correctly, and replace the heater or valve if scale has damaged it.

Standing water and drain errors

Symptom: Water left in the tub after the cycle, a sour odor, and a drain error code. Cause: Food debris, glass shards, labels or seeds packed into the filter, sump or drain pump impeller. Fix: Clean the filter and sump, clear the pump, and replace the drain pump if its motor or impeller is damaged.

Leak under the door or from the base

Symptom: Water on the floor, or a leak-protection code with the pump running. Cause: Worn door seal, leaking inlet valve or hoses, pump seals, or suds from hand dish soap used in the machine. Fix: Find the source, repair it, and dry the base pan so the float switch resets.

Worn latch, springs and racks from daily cycles

Symptom: Door drops open, will not latch, or racks jump their tracks. Cause: High cycle counts wear the latch, door springs, rack wheels and pump bearings. Fix: Replace the latch, springs, wheels or bearings that have worn. These are usually quick repairs that keep a sound machine running for years.

Dishwasher Care for Very Hard Water

The dishwasher's hardness setting should match the water. Many machines ship set for moderate water, so at about 14 gpg it is worth checking the menu or manual. Keep rinse aid full. Run the kitchen tap hot before starting so the first fill is warm, which helps detergent work. Clean the filter every few months, or monthly for a household that runs daily.

  • Pull and rinse the filter monthly with daily use
  • Descale several times a year with a dishwasher descaler
  • Keep the rinse aid dispenser full and the hardness setting matched to about 14 gpg
  • Use only dishwasher detergent, never hand dish soap
  • Run the machine at least weekly so seals stay moist

What We Need for a Dishwasher Visit

The model and serial number are usually printed on the edge of the tub, visible with the door open. Tell us the error code or symptom and whether water is still standing in the tub. If you have the under-sink shutoff, show us where it is. In apartment buildings, let us know about parking, elevator access and whether management needs a heads-up before we pull the unit, since some compact and panel-ready models are secured to the cabinets.

Deciding Whether to Repair the Dishwasher

Drain pumps, inlet valves, latches, seals and heaters are all good repairs. Dishwashers typically last about 10 to 13 years, so a tub leak or control board failure past about ten years often makes replacement the better value. On a newer machine, scale damage to a heater or valve is worth fixing, as long as the hardness setting is corrected so it does not come back. The $99 diagnostic is credited toward the repair.
