Service scope

Start with the dishwasher and the behavior you see.

This parent page helps route a dishwasher request. A symptom, feature name or brand link does not by itself identify a failed part or confirm support for every model, configuration or repair.

Not draining or water remains

Note when water remains and which cycle stage was last observed. Do not infer a pump, hose or control failure from the symptom alone.

Leak or water outside the unit

Stop using the dishwasher and note the safely visible location. Avoid standing water near a cord, outlet or electrical component.

Dishes not clean or residue remains

Note the selected cycle, load pattern, detergent and safely observable water behavior. Those details do not by themselves identify a failed component.

Door, latch, rack or dispenser concern

Describe the visible condition and when the issue occurs. Do not force the door, latch, rack or dispenser.

Noise, cycle stops or runs long

Note when the behavior occurs and any complete display message. A sound or cycle symptom alone does not prove a specific part failed.

Built-in, drawer or portable configuration

Use existing paperwork or a safely visible label to identify the dishwasher. Do not pull out built-in equipment or touch wiring, water lines, drain connections or mounting hardware.

San Diego installations

Know your dishwasher setup.

Installation style changes access, parts and the service conversation—identify yours before the visit.

Built-in undercounter

The most common San Diego setup. Panel-ready models add cabinetry steps—mention a custom panel when scheduling.

Drawer-style

Single and double drawers service differently than doors. Share the exact model label from the drawer edge.

Portable and compact

Countertop and rolling units are serviced too. Confirm the model and how it connects to water.

Hard water shows up in dishwashers first.

San Diego's mineral-heavy water scales spray arms, filters and heaters. White film alone is not a failed part—diagnosis separates scale from genuine faults.

Safe owner checks

Useful details—without opening panels, moving or running unsafe tests.

Leak or standing water near electricity?

Stop using the dishwasher. Do not touch the unit, cord, outlet or standing water when an electrical hazard may be present.

Smoke, sparking, burning odor or exposed wiring?

Do not reproduce the problem or touch the unit, cord, outlet or standing water. If there is fire, smoke or any doubt, leave the home and call 911.

USFA fire safety
  • Note the selected cycle, when the behavior begins, water or leak location, door behavior, sounds and any complete displayed message.
  • Photograph the full display message and the complete model/serial label only if safely visible.
  • Share whether the unit is built-in, drawer or portable and whether a power interruption, plumbing change, installation change or prior service preceded the concern.
  • Do not remove the toe kick or panels, touch wiring or hoses, bypass the latch, enter diagnostic modes or pull a built-in unit from cabinetry.
  • For routine use, follow the matching owner guide. Do not use drain chemicals, unverified cleaning procedures or a generic reset as a substitute for model-specific guidance.

Models and maintenance

Use the complete model label—then keep maintenance model-safe.

A model-family name alone does not establish parts, code meanings or repair eligibility. Share the complete label and installation details before model-specific guidance is used.

Find the model label safely

Photograph the complete model and serial label only when it is visible without moving the dishwasher, removing panels or reaching near wiring, hoses or water connections.

Keep routine care model-safe

Follow the matching owner guide for detergent, dispenser, approved cleaning and exterior care. Do not use a generic cleaning procedure as a diagnostic step.

Protect the installation

Do not disconnect hoses, touch valves or wiring, bypass the latch, remove the toe kick or pull a built-in dishwasher from cabinetry. Share known access and installation details when scheduling.

Our Work

How our dishwasher service works.

  1. Describe and identify

Share the appliance, installation, model label and observed concern when requesting service.

  2. Diagnose and review

The visit establishes the proposed repair scope. Review the estimate before authorizing work.

  3. Approve and complete

Work proceeds after approval. Any new scope requires separate approval before it is added.

Display messages

A dishwasher code needs the exact model context.

No new dishwasher error-code library is introduced by this parent-page candidate. Keep the complete message with the model label; do not transfer a definition or reset instruction between brands or models.

Commercial dishwasher requests have a distinct commercial dishwasher service page. It is not merged into this residential parent identity.

Before requesting service

Helpful dishwasher-service questions.

Does the $99 residential diagnostic fee always apply?

Yes. It is non-refundable and credited toward the total repair cost if you proceed. There are no residential exceptions.

Do you service my street in Point Loma & Ocean Beach?

We take requests across Point Loma & Ocean Beach (ZIP 92106, 92107). Share gate codes, parking or building access when booking so the technician can plan the visit.

Should I reset a dishwasher after a display message?

Do not use a general page as a model-specific reset guide. Keep the exact display message and complete model label for the service discussion.

What should I do if water is near electrical components?

Stop using the dishwasher and avoid touching the unit, cord, outlet or standing water. If there is smoke, fire or immediate danger, leave and call 911.

Should I pull out a built-in dishwasher or bypass its latch?

No. Do not remove panels, touch wiring or hoses, bypass the latch or move a built-in unit. Describe the visible concern and installation instead.

Does a brand link confirm support for my model?

No. The existing brand pages help route the request; the exact appliance, model, installation and requested scope still need confirmation.

Can I visit or arrange an appliance drop-off?

Visits are by appointment, and appliance drop-off is available by prior arrangement. Coordinate before arriving.

Is Point Loma tap water hard enough to damage a dishwasher?

It is very hard by the USGS scale. The City's 2025 report shows about 237 to 243 mg/L across its plants. That does not destroy a dishwasher quickly, but it steadily scales the heater, spray arms and inlet valve. Rinse aid, the correct hardness setting and regular descaling slow it down a lot.

The dishwasher leaked the first time we used it after moving in. Why?

Seals dry out when a dishwasher sits unused. The pump shaft seal and door gasket can stick or shrink, then leak on the first cycle. Sometimes they reseat after a few runs. If water keeps appearing, the seal or pump needs replacement before it damages the cabinet floor.

Why are my glasses cloudy even with a new detergent?

Cloudiness in hard water is usually mineral film, not dirt. Check that rinse aid is filled, that the hardness setting matches very hard water, and that the spray arms are clear. If glasses stay etched after descaling, the damage is in the glass surface and will not wash off.

How much does a dishwasher diagnostic cost?

Our residential diagnostic is $99, and it is credited toward the repair if you go ahead. The technician identifies the failed part and gives you a quote before any work starts.

Dishwasher Repair for Point Loma's Hard Water

Point Loma homes get their tap water from the City of San Diego, and the City's 2025 water quality report puts every treatment plant in the 'very hard' range. That mineral load matters more to a dishwasher than to almost anything else in the kitchen, because the machine heats the water and sprays it through tiny holes dozens of times a week. We repair dishwashers from Bosch, Whirlpool and GE to KitchenAid and Miele in 92106 and 92107, and hard water is behind many of the calls.

Why 14 Grains of Hardness Wears on a Dishwasher Heater

The 2025 report lists average hardness of 237 mg/L at the Alvarado plant, 242 mg/L at Miramar and 243 mg/L at Otay, which works out to about 13.8 to 14.2 grains per gallon. The report does not say which plant serves which neighborhood, so treat Point Loma as somewhere in that band. The USGS calls anything above 180 mg/L very hard. Most of the supply is imported Colorado River and State Water Project water. Inside a dishwasher, calcium and magnesium carbonate come out of solution faster as the water heats. They settle on the heating element or flow-through heater, narrow the spray-arm holes, and coat the fine screen at the inlet valve. A scaled heater takes longer to reach temperature and can trigger a heater or fill error. Scaled spray arms leave a white film on glasses. The other local factor is turnover. Point Loma has a strong Navy presence, and homes and rentals change hands on rotation schedules. A dishwasher that sits unused between tenants can have its pump shaft seal and door gasket dry out, then leak or hum without filling on the first run.

Dishwasher Problems That Bring Us to 92106 and 92107

Scale on heater, arms and inlet screen

Symptom: White film and cloudy glassware, slow fill, long cycles, or a heating fault on the display. Cause: Hard-water minerals deposit on the heater and inside spray arms, and scale builds on the small screen inside the water inlet valve. Fix: Descale the tub and heater, clear spray-arm holes, clean or replace the inlet valve, and set the hardness and rinse-aid levels for very hard water. A damaged heater gets replaced.

First-run leak after a vacant stretch

Symptom: Water under the door or on the floor the first time a new occupant runs it, or a hum with no fill. Cause: Pump shaft seals and the door gasket dry out and stick when the machine sits idle for weeks. Fix: Inspect seals and gasket; replace the seal or pump assembly if it keeps leaking. Running the machine weekly prevents most of this.

Standing water and drain errors

Symptom: Dirty water in the bottom after the cycle, odor, or a drain code. Cause: Food, glass, labels or seeds in the filter and sump, or a jammed or failed drain pump. Fix: Clean the filter and sump, clear the pump impeller, check the drain hose loop, and replace the pump if it has failed.

Leak sensor tripped

Symptom: The machine stops and shows a leak code, sometimes with a wet base pan. Cause: A worn door seal, a weeping inlet valve or hose, pump seals, or oversudsing from hand dish soap. Fix: Find and repair the source, dry the base pan and reset the float.

A Hard-Water Care Schedule

Keep rinse aid topped up; it helps water sheet off instead of drying into spots. If your model has a water-softener salt reservoir or hardness setting, set it for very hard water. Clean the filter every few months, or monthly if the machine runs daily. Run the kitchen tap until it is hot before starting a cycle so the first fill is warm. In testing by WQRF and Battelle, softened water let households cut dishwasher detergent by up to about 70 percent with equal or better results, so a whole-house softener helps here too.

  • Monthly: clean the filter if you run daily loads
  • Every 2 to 3 months: descale the tub, given the City's very hard water
  • Rinse aid: refill whenever the indicator shows
  • Weekly: run a cycle, even in a vacant rental, to keep seals wet

Getting Ready for a Dishwasher Appointment

Please clear the sink cabinet so we can reach the water shutoff and drain connection, and empty the racks. The model and serial number are usually printed on the edge of the door or the tub frame. Write down any code on the display and when it appears in the cycle. If you are a landlord or property manager handling a move-in, tell us how long the unit sat unused and who will let us in. For Liberty Station townhomes and other shared-wall units, point us to the right parking area.

When a Dishwasher Is Worth the Repair

Pumps, inlet valves, latches, seals and heaters are normal repairs, and most dishwashers are worth fixing for these. Lifespan is often cited at 10 to 13 years. Past about ten years, a failed control board or a cracked tub starts to favor replacement. A new machine faces the same water, so plan a descaling routine either way.
