Miele wall ovens
Miele's Generation 7000 wall ovens - H 7000 convection, DG steam and DGC combi-steam - report faults as F-codes. For the steam side, Miele documents them publicly: F10 intake, F11 drainage, F20 heating, F196 pump-out. For the convection side, Miele's policy is service data - and we carry it into the visit.
A photo of the model label and the complete installation helps the team understand the configuration before the visit.
30-inch ovens from H 7280 to the H 7880 flagship - M Touch, wireless probe, self-clean on upper trims.
Combi-steam ovens - the sous-chef format with water intake, steam generator and pump-out plumbing.
Pure steam ovens sharing the water-path service points.
The previous generation, widely installed and fully serviced.
Start with the symptom
The most common Miele oven problems are Combi-steam nagging to descale, oven dead after self-clean and steam weak or absent. A symptom narrows the inspection; it does not identify the failed component. The visit confirms the actual fault on the exact model before any repair is authorized.
Not a fault - but skipping it breeds F11. Descaling is part of the service visit.
Pyrolytic cycles stress latches and thermal cutoffs - the documented aftermath on BP models.
Intake path and generator scale - the F10/F11 territory even without a code.
Sensor and calibration measured against a reference - then corrected.
Power path first, control second - photograph anything shown before it went dark.
Miele's multi-glass doors are serviceable - hinges and glass packs are real parts.
Series and model numbers
We service Miele ovens across these lines: H 7xxx BP, DGC 7xxx, Fabrication number. Convection and steam share a control language but not plumbing - the model prefix decides which fault paths physically exist.
Model label
The data plate is on the front frame, visible when the door is open. Photograph the model and fabrication number - Miele service data resolves by both. Photograph the complete label — the full model and serial identify parts and production year better than the series name alone.
Miele diagnostics
Miele ovens show codes such as F10, F11, F20, F196. F10, F11, F20 and F196 are documented in Miele's own support materials for steam and combi-steam ovens. Convection H-series codes follow Miele's service-data policy - conflicting third-party decodes are excluded. Before you book, photograph the code and the model label; that one step applies to every code below.
Preventive service and owner care
Alpha Pro provides preventive and general maintenance for Miele wall ovens. The appliance design determines which procedures are accessible and appropriate.
Owner maintenance
Professional maintenance
A professional visit can evaluate accessible systems without assuming every procedure applies to every model.
Diagnosis before parts
A Miele oven repair visit has three steps: describe the symptom, evaluate the system and review the recommendation.
Call or book with the model label, exact behavior, any displayed codes, photos, and access notes.
The technician examines the reported condition in context: preheat behavior, temperatures, elements, door fit, controls, and relevant components.
Findings and proposed work are explained before repair proceeds. The residential diagnostic is credited toward an approved repair.
Service areas and operating context
Alpha Pro serves Miele wall ovens in communities including La Jolla, Del Mar, Rancho Santa Fe, Carmel Valley, Poway, and the full San Diego County footprint below — ZIP by ZIP. Installation and room conditions vary from the coast to inland homes.
Recurring condensation, marine exposure, ventilation limits, and visible corrosion can be useful details during repair or maintenance.
Share room conditions, recent heat events, ventilation restrictions, and when the symptom appears.
During maintenance, accessible metal surfaces can be inspected for corrosion, moisture exposure, or conditions that may warrant attention. Location alone does not establish the cause of a failure.
A better repair decision
Repair a Miele oven when the fix costs less than half of a comparable new unit and the rest of the appliance is sound. A typical oven lasts 13 to 17 years according to InterNACHI. Typical repairs run $300–$900 for premium and built-in models, parts and labor before tax. Consumer Reports suggests not spending more than 50 percent of the cost of a new product on repairing an old one. Built-in and pro-style Miele equipment is the exception: replacing it can involve the opening, panels and connections, so repair stays worthwhile for longer.
A wall oven outlasts most kitchen electronics, so a mid-life Miele oven is usually worth repairing unless the main control has failed.
Check the door seal, hinges and cavity. Element and sensor faults are routine, while a damaged cavity or door glass raises the cost.
Bake and broil elements, igniters, sensors and convection fans are routine repairs. A main control board on an old unit is the costly one.
Ask whether the Miele electronic control is still available for your model, since older boards can be discontinued.
A new wall oven must fit the existing cut-out; a different size can mean cabinet work and trim.
Local notes · San Diego County
Miele's current wall ovens belong to the H 7000 generation: convection models like the H 7280 BP and H 7880 BP, speed ovens in the H 7xxx BM line, and combi-steam versions. They come in VitroLine, PureLine, ContourLine and ArtLine designs, with M Touch or DirectSensor controls and pyrolytic Self Clean on many models. Older kitchens still hold H 4000 and H 5000 series units. Across San Diego County, the same ovens face different stress: hard water in steam models everywhere, salt air on the coast, and hot, dusty kitchens inland.
San Diego County's climates range from marine-layer mornings on the coast to inland valleys where El Cajon averages 88.6°F in August. Near the ocean, damp May Gray and June Gloom air and salt spray can slowly corrode element terminals and wire connectors. Inland, the concern is heat and dust. A built-in oven in tight cabinetry relies on a cooling fan to protect its controls, and a warm, dusty kitchen asks more of that fan. Santa Ana winds, about 10 days a year, drop humidity to single digits and carry dust into homes across the county. Water affects any Miele with steam. Nearly all county tap water is hard to very hard. In 2025 the City of San Diego reported 237 to 243 mg/L, Helix 206 mg/L, Otay 9.4 gpg and Sweetwater 193 mg/L. Poway 236 mg/L in 2024. The practical range is about 9 to 16 grains per gallon, and every grain ends up in a steam generator. Our city pages go deeper on local conditions in Chula Vista, La Jolla and Poway.
Symptom: Self Clean aborts with F23. Cause: Heavy residual soiling, per Miele. If it repeats on a clean cavity, suspect a weak element or temperature sensor. Fix: Remove coarse soil and restart. We test the elements and sensor when the code returns.
Symptom: F32 means the lock won't close and Self Clean won't start; F33 means the door stays locked after the cycle. Cause: Debris or an object at the seal for F32, or a lock motor, switch or mechanism fault for either code. Fix: Clear the seal and retry, or power down at the breaker. If the code persists, we replace the lock assembly.
Symptom: The oven shows F44 and won't operate normally. Cause: A technical fault in the electronics, sometimes worsened by an overheated cabinet or a failing cooling fan. Fix: Switch off the breaker for 20 seconds. If F44 returns, we diagnose the controls and cooling system.
Symptom: F55 shuts the oven off during a long cook; other codes include F38, F54, F60, F134 and E0 to E5. Cause: F55 is the safety limit after 6 hours in grill modes or 12 hours in other modes, not a failure. Other codes vary by model. Fix: Restart after F55. For other codes, record the exact code and model before calling.
Miele's two core steps apply everywhere: remove coarse soil before Self Clean, and inspect the door seal yearly. Beyond that, match the care to your home. Coastal owners should watch for slow heating that may mean corroded connections. Inland owners should keep the cooling vent clean and avoid Self Clean on the hottest afternoons. Anyone with a steam or combi-steam oven should descale at every prompt, because no part of the county has soft tap water.
We cover homes across the county, including coastal condos, gated inland estates and master-planned communities. When you book, tell us the model and serial number, the exact code and what the oven was doing when it appeared. Photos of the display and rating plate help us bring the right parts. Wall-oven repairs may require sliding the unit forward, so clear the counter below and the floor in front. Share gate codes, elevator rules or parking notes ahead of time.
Miele wall ovens are costly and sized to specific cutouts, often stacked with a matching speed oven, steam oven or warming drawer. That makes most repairs sensible. Locks, seals, elements, fans, sensors and steam parts are all good candidates. Control boards on current H 7000 models are usually worth replacing. On older H 4000 and H 5000 units, obsolete electronics can tip the balance toward replacement. Your diagnostic is credited toward any repair you approve.

No. A symptom narrows the search, but the diagnostic visit on the exact model confirms the actual fault before any repair is authorized.
A water intake fault - the machine is not receiving water. Tank seating and screens first; plumbed models add the supply line. All testable on-site.
Water cannot drain from the steam generator - scale is the classic cause in hard-water San Diego. Descaling and drain-path service resolve it.
Miele publishes convection codes to service rather than the public, and third-party lists conflict. We read the code against factory service data on your exact model instead of guessing.
On the front frame, visible when the door is open - photograph the model and fabrication number together.
Yes - the 6000-series ovens and combi-steams share the service philosophy, with parts resolved by fabrication number.
We work on Miele convection wall ovens, combi-steam and steam ovens, and speed ovens, including H 7000 series models like the H 7280 BP and H 7880 BP and older H 4000 and H 5000 units. We're an independent repair company, not Miele's own service, and we cover the whole county.
Not yourself. The microwave section holds high voltage, and the magnetron, diode, capacitor and door interlocks need a trained technician. If convection works but microwave mode doesn't heat, book a service call and leave the housing closed. The capacitor can stay charged after power is off.
The residential service call is $99 and is credited to the repair. The repair price is quoted after diagnosis and approved before any work starts. Military and senior discounts are available.
