North Park coverage
North Park's craftsman bungalows and new mixed-use buildings keep both ends of the appliance spectrum busy - original gas ranges to brand-new compact stacks.
Central San Diego mixes condos, high-rises and mid-century homes: building access, compact formats and remodel-era installations shape the visit as much as the appliance.
Typical repair pricing
Estimated oven repair pricing for common work in standard installations. The exact scope and total are confirmed after diagnosis and before authorized repair work begins.
$99 residential diagnostic fee: non-refundable and credited toward the total repair cost when you proceed. Parts, model, installation, access and the confirmed repair scope can change the final total.

This parent page helps route an oven request. A symptom, feature name or brand link does not by itself identify a failed part or confirm support for every model and installation.
Describe the selected mode, setpoint, preheat behavior and cooking result. A temperature concern alone does not establish the failed component.
Note the selected mode, display response and when the earlier cycle stopped or changed. Do not bypass a latch or safety interlock to demonstrate the concern.
Describe whether the door closed, latched and stayed closed, plus any safely visible seal, hinge or glass concern. Do not force a locked door.
Note the selected mode and when the sound occurs. A fan or airflow symptom alone does not establish the failed component.
Photograph the complete display and share the exact model. Do not include account passwords or assume a code has the same meaning across models.
Use existing paperwork or a safely visible label to identify the oven. Do not pull out built-in equipment or touch power, gas or ventilation connections.
San Diego installations
Configuration changes access, parts and labor—identify yours before the visit.
Built into cabinetry; door hinges, elements and boards are the usual paths. Share cabinet clearance when scheduling.
The oven section of a range services differently than a wall unit—the range model label is the one that matters.
Added fans, gaskets and water paths mean model-specific parts, quoted after diagnosis.
Safe owner checks
Leave the area immediately. From a safe location, call 911 or SDG&E at 1-800-411-7343. Do not use the oven, operate switches or return to demonstrate the concern.
If it is safe, turn off the oven and keep the door closed. If flames escape the oven or there is any doubt, leave the home and call 911. Do not reopen the door or use the oven again to reproduce the problem.
Models and maintenance
A model-family name alone does not establish parts, code meanings or repair eligibility. Share the complete label and installation details before model-specific guidance is used.
Photograph the complete model and serial label only when it is visible without moving the oven, removing panels or reaching near wiring, gas or ventilation connections.
Follow the matching owner guide for approved cleaning, rack use and exterior care. Do not run self-clean or a generic reset as a diagnostic step after a fault.
Do not pull out a built-in oven, touch wiring, adjust a gas valve, alter ventilation or force a locked door. Share known access and installation details when scheduling.
Our Work
Share the appliance, installation, model label and observed concern when requesting service.
The visit establishes the proposed repair scope. Review the estimate before authorizing work.
Work proceeds after approval. Any new scope requires separate approval before it is added.
Display messages
No general oven error-code library is linked from this parent page. Keep the complete message with the model label; do not transfer a definition or reset instruction between brands or models. Existing model-specific URLs are not treated as universal guidance.
Visit, pricing and warranty wording
The residential service visit / diagnostic fee is $99. It always applies, is non-refundable and is credited toward the total repair cost if you proceed. No exceptions.
The commercial service visit / diagnostic fee is $150 and is separate from residential pricing.

The igniter probably has weakened. On most gas ovens the safety valve opens only when the igniter draws enough current. An aging igniter can still glow while drawing too little, so the valve stays shut. Replacing the igniter usually fixes it, but we test the valve too.
It is designed to be safe, but it is hard on parts. The very high cavity heat is a common trigger for door lock, thermal fuse and board failures, especially on older ovens. Run it when you are home, ventilate the kitchen, and consider cleaning by hand on older units.
No. On gas ovens foil can block combustion air and raise carbon monoxide risk, and both CPSC and SDG&E warn against it. Put a baking sheet on a lower rack to catch drips instead, and wipe the floor of the oven once it has cooled.
Leave the house immediately. Do not light anything or switch lights or appliances on or off. From outside, call SDG&E or 9-1-1. After the utility has made the area safe, we can diagnose the oven's valve and igniter. Do not rely on smell alone, since SDG&E notes that odor can fade.
Local notes · North Park
An oven in a North Park kitchen often works in tight quarters. Bungalow kitchens from the early 1900s are small, the cabinetry around a wall oven or range is snug, and many homes have added exhaust only where the original house allowed it. Heat that cannot escape ends up in the oven's controls, door lock and wiring. Add a gas supply that may be decades old and a self-clean cycle run on a warm September afternoon, and you have the usual recipe for an oven call. We repair ovens from Whirlpool, GE and Frigidaire to Bosch, Thermador and Wolf.
Most gas ovens in mainstream brands light with a hot-surface igniter wired in series with a safety valve. The valve opens only when the igniter draws enough current, so an igniter that still glows but has weakened will leave you with a warm glow and no flame. Electric ovens switch bake and broil elements through relays on a control board, which reads a temperature sensor. Both designs dislike heat soaking into the electronics. Built-in wall ovens depend on a cooling fan to move air across the controls, and in the compact cabinetry typical of remodeled bungalow kitchens that airflow margin is thin. Self-clean makes it thinner, since the cavity runs far hotter than any bake, stressing door locks, gaskets, thermal fuses and boards. North Park sits on a mesa about three miles from Lindbergh Field, where average highs sit in the mid to upper 70s from July through September, and many older houses have limited kitchen ventilation. In the historic district, adding a new range-hood penetration through an exterior wall may need review. For gas ovens, remember that the piping on the house side of the meter belongs to the owner, and SDG&E recommends a licensed professional inspect older lines.
Symptom: The igniter glows orange for minutes, the oven never reaches temperature, or you notice a gas smell before ignition. Cause: A weakened igniter that no longer draws enough current to open the safety valve, or a failed valve. Fix: We measure igniter current, replace it and test the valve. If you smell gas at any point, leave the house and call SDG&E first.
Symptom: Door stays locked, a lock error appears, or the whole oven has no power. Cause: A failed lock motor or switch, a blown thermal fuse, or a control board damaged by the cycle's heat. Fix: We try a power reset, then replace the lock assembly, fuse or board as testing indicates.
Symptom: Cakes sink, roasts undercook, or the display reads right but food disagrees. Cause: A drifting temperature sensor, a torn door gasket or an old calibration offset. Fix: We verify with a calibrated thermometer, reset the offset per the manual, and replace the sensor or gasket.
Symptom: Frequent descale prompts, weak or no steam, water at the door. Cause: Very hard City water scaling the steam generator, pump and level sensor. Fix: We descale with the maker's product and replace the pump or generator if scale has damaged it.
Keep the oven clean enough that you rarely need self-clean, and when you do run it, choose a cool morning and stay home. Watch the door gasket; a torn one leaks heat into the controls and throws off temperature. If a gas oven takes longer than usual to light, or the igniter glows for a long time before flame appears, book service before it quits entirely. After a long absence from the house, run a short test bake before cooking for guests.
Clear the countertop next to the oven and remove racks and pans. Wall ovens sometimes need to be slid out of the cabinet, so tell us the width and whether there is a second oven or a microwave above. For gas ovens, know where the appliance shutoff and the meter are. Note the model and serial number, usually on a plate behind the door or drawer, and photograph any code. In apartments, share parking and elevator details.
Igniters, elements, sensors and gaskets are low-cost repairs. Wall ovens usually make sense to repair because a replacement must match the existing cabinet cutout, and a bungalow kitchen rarely has spare inches. A combined board and lock failure on an old unit is where replacement becomes a fair question. Our $99 diagnostic is credited toward the repair. Steam and speed ovens involve pumps, generators or magnetrons and deserve a diagnosis before any decision.
