Service scope

Start with the complete range and the behavior you see.

This parent page helps route a range request that may involve the cooking surface, oven cavity or controls. A symptom, feature name or brand link does not by itself identify a failed part or confirm support for every model, fuel type and installation.

Surface burners and elements

Describe which burner or element is affected, the selected setting and what happens. A clicking, ignition or heating symptom alone does not establish the failed component.

Oven heating and temperature

Describe the selected mode, setpoint, preheat behavior and cooking result. A temperature concern alone does not establish the failed component.

Ignition and flame behavior

Note which control was selected and what you safely observed before stopping use. Never relight manually, adjust a valve or reproduce a gas or flame concern.

Door, latch, fan and noise

Describe when the issue occurs and any safely visible door, seal, hinge or glass concern. Do not force a locked door or bypass a safety interlock.

Display and controls

Photograph the complete display and share the exact model. Do not include account passwords, enter diagnostic modes or assume a code has the same meaning across models.

Gas, electric, dual-fuel or induction

Use existing paperwork or a safely visible label to identify the range. Do not pull, tip or move it, and do not touch anti-tip, power, gas or ventilation connections.

San Diego installations

Know your range type.

Fuel type drives both the likely failure paths and the parts involved—identify yours from paperwork or the model label.

Gas

Igniters, spark modules and gas valves are the common paths. Never test-run a suspected gas fault to demonstrate it.

Electric and induction

Elements, relays and control boards dominate. Induction adds sealed electronics that are quoted after diagnosis.

Dual-fuel

A gas cooktop over an electric oven mixes both service paths—the complete model label matters even more.

Safe owner checks

Useful details—without opening panels, moving or resetting the range.

See, hear or smell signs of a gas leak?

Leave the area immediately. From a safe location, call 911 or SDG&E at 1-800-411-7343. Do not use the range, operate switches or return to demonstrate the concern.

SDG&E guidance

Fire in or around the range?

For an oven fire, keep the door closed if it is safe to do so. If flames escape, a surface fire is present or there is any doubt, leave the home and call 911. Do not reproduce the problem or use the range again.

USFA safety guidance
  • Note the affected burner, element or oven mode; the selected setting; preheat behavior; cooking result; and any displayed message.
  • Photograph the full display message and the complete model/serial label only if safely visible.
  • Share whether the unit is known to be gas, electric, dual-fuel or induction, and whether an installation change, power interruption, spill, self-clean cycle or prior service preceded the concern.
  • Do not remove panels, touch wiring, adjust a gas valve, enter diagnostic modes, force a locked door, move the range or defeat its anti-tip restraint.
  • For routine use, follow the matching owner guide. A reset, relight or cleaning cycle does not prove a range is safe after a fault.

Models and maintenance

Use the complete model label—then keep maintenance model-safe.

A model-family name alone does not establish parts, code meanings or repair eligibility. Share the complete label and installation details before model-specific guidance is used.

Find the model label safely

Photograph the complete model and serial label only when it is visible without moving the range, removing panels or reaching near wiring, gas or ventilation connections.

Keep routine care model-safe

Follow the matching owner guide for approved cleaning, burner, rack and exterior care. Do not run self-clean or a generic reset as a diagnostic step after a fault.

Protect the installation

Do not pull, tip or move the range, touch wiring, adjust a gas valve, alter ventilation or defeat the anti-tip restraint. Share known access and installation details when scheduling.

Our Work

How our range service works.

  1. Describe and identify

Share the appliance, installation, model label and observed concern when requesting service.

  2. Diagnose and review

The visit establishes the proposed repair scope. Review the estimate before authorizing work.

  3. Approve and complete

Work proceeds after approval. Any new scope requires separate approval before it is added.

Display messages

A range code needs the exact model context.

No general range error-code library is linked from this parent page. Keep the complete message with the model label; do not transfer a definition or reset instruction between brands or models. Existing model-specific URLs are not treated as universal guidance.

For a separate built-in or wall oven, use the oven repair parent. For a standalone cooktop, use the distinct cooktop repair parent. The nonexistent /stove-repair route is not created or linked.

Service visit and estimate

The residential service visit / diagnostic fee is $99. It always applies, is non-refundable and is credited toward the total repair cost if you proceed. No exceptions.

The commercial service visit / diagnostic fee is $150 and is separate from residential pricing.

After diagnosis, review the proposed scope and estimate before authorizing repair work.

Before requesting service

Helpful range-service questions.

Does the $99 residential diagnostic fee always apply?

Yes. It is non-refundable and credited toward the total repair cost if you proceed. There are no residential exceptions.

Do you service my street in Kearny Mesa & Serra Mesa?

We take requests across Kearny Mesa & Serra Mesa (ZIP 92123). Share gate codes, parking or building access when booking so the technician can plan the visit.

Should I reset a range after a display message?

Do not use a general page as a model-specific reset guide. Keep the exact display message and complete model label for the service discussion.

Should I reproduce a gas, spark or fire concern?

No. Stop using the range. For an oven fire, keep the door closed if it is safe. If flames escape, a surface fire is present, gas may be leaking or there is any doubt, leave and call 911 from a safe location.

Should I pull, tip or move the range?

No. Leave the anti-tip restraint and electrical, gas and ventilation connections intact. Describe the installation and access without moving equipment or bypassing a latch.

Does a brand link confirm support for my model?

No. The existing brand pages help route the request; the exact appliance, model, installation and requested scope still need confirmation.

Can I visit or arrange an appliance drop-off?

Visits are by appointment, and appliance drop-off is available by prior arrangement. Coordinate before arriving.

Why does my burner keep clicking after I cleaned the stove?

Water under the cap or in the switch is the usual reason. Let the range dry for several hours, make sure each cap sits flat, and try again. If it still clicks, the switch, electrode or spark module may need replacement.

What should I do if I smell gas near my range?

Leave the home right away without switching lights or appliances on or off. From a safe place, call SDG&E at 1-800-411-7343 or 9-1-1. Once the utility says it is safe, we can repair the range. Do not try to find the leak yourself.

What is an anti-tip bracket and do I need one?

It is a metal bracket that holds a rear leg of the range to the floor or wall so the range cannot tip forward when the door is loaded. All freestanding and slide-in ranges should have it engaged, especially in homes with children or older adults.

Can you fix the oven part of my dual-fuel range?

Yes. Dual-fuel ranges use gas burners on top and an electric oven below, so the oven side is diagnosed like an electric oven: bake and broil elements, the temperature sensor and the control relays. Surface burner problems are handled separately.

Range and Stove Repair in Kearny Mesa

Kearny Mesa is home to San Diego's Convoy District, a dense stretch of Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese and Thai restaurants and markets with roots going back to 1979. If your household cooks that way at home, with high heat, big stockpots and frequent boil-overs, the range takes the punishment on its burners, spark electrodes and switches. We repair gas, dual-fuel, electric and induction ranges, from GE, Whirlpool and Samsung to Thermador and Wolf, across 92111 and 92123.

High-Heat Home Cooking and What It Does to a Range

A gas range lights its surface burners with a spark module and an electrode at each burner. That system is sensitive to water and grease. A boil-over that runs under a burner cap, or a wet wipe-down, can leave the electrode clicking long after the flame is lit, or keep it from lighting at all. Grease that bakes into burner ports gives weak, lifting or yellow flames. Heavy stockpot use also leans on the cooktop grates and knobs, and wok-style cooking drives grease into the range hood filters. Kearny Mesa's housing is changing too. The 2020 community plan allowed about 27,000 new units along Convoy, Clairemont Mesa Boulevard and Aero Drive. New buildings, remodels and move-ins mean ranges get pulled out and reinstalled, and every reinstall is a chance for a range to go back in without its anti-tip bracket engaged. The CPSC counted nine deaths from stove and oven tip-overs between January 2013 and July 2023, the majority of appliance tip-over deaths in that period. Freeway and airfield dust on the mesa settles into oven convection fans and the range's cooling paths, and pet hair gets drawn in the same way.

Range Faults We Find in Mesa Kitchens

Burner clicks and will not stop

Symptom: Sparking continues with the flame lit, or clicks start on their own. Cause: Moisture after cleaning or a boil-over, a misaligned cap, wrong polarity or ground at the outlet, a wet switch or a failed spark module. Fix: Dry the burner and reseat the cap, check the outlet, and replace the switch, module or electrode if the problem stays.

Weak or yellow flame

Symptom: Flame lifts off the burner, looks yellow or leaves soot on pans. Cause: Grease-clogged ports, wrong orifices after a propane or natural gas change, an air shutter out of adjustment or a regulator problem. Fix: Clean the ports, confirm gas type, orifices and regulator. Smell gas? Leave the home and call SDG&E first.

Oven side will not heat

Symptom: Burners work but the oven stays cold or heats slowly. Cause: A weak igniter or failed safety valve on gas; a failed bake element or relay on electric and dual-fuel ranges. Fix: Test igniter current and the safety valve on gas models, or the element and relay output on electric and dual-fuel models, then replace the failed part.

Range rocks forward

Symptom: The range tips slightly when the open door is pressed or loaded. Cause: The anti-tip bracket is missing or was not engaged after flooring, cabinet work or a move. A new floor can also raise the range above a bracket that was fitted before. Fix: Install or re-engage the bracket. We check this on every range service.

Range Routines for Heavy Cooking

Clean the cooktop and burners often to keep grease from building up and to cut grease-fire risk. Let burners dry completely after cleaning before you try to light them. Run the range hood on every high-heat cook. SDG&E recommends an annual inspection of gas appliances and offers no-cost safety checks.

  • Wipe burner caps and bases weekly with heavy cooking; clear ports with a toothpick
  • Wash hood grease filters monthly
  • Confirm the anti-tip bracket is engaged after any move or floor work
  • Schedule a gas appliance safety check each year

What to Expect When We Service Your Range

Tell us the fuel type (gas, dual-fuel, electric or induction), the width and the model and serial, which are often on the frame behind the storage drawer or oven door. Clear the cooktop and the area in front so we can pull the range forward. In apartment buildings, let us know about parking and elevator access. If there is any gas odor, do not wait for our visit: leave the home and call SDG&E or 9-1-1 from outside.

Deciding on a Range Repair

Most range repairs are in the low to middle tier: spark modules, switches, igniters, elements and burner parts. Gas ranges are typically cited around 15 years of life, and pro-style ranges are nearly always worth repairing. The case for replacement grows when an older unit needs a control board plus other major parts. Our $99 diagnostic is credited toward the repair.
