Service scope

Start with the complete range and the behavior you see.

This parent page helps route a range request that may involve the cooking surface, oven cavity or controls. A symptom, feature name or brand link does not by itself identify a failed part or confirm support for every model, fuel type and installation.

Surface burners and elements

Describe which burner or element is affected, the selected setting and what happens. A clicking, ignition or heating symptom alone does not establish the failed component.

Oven heating and temperature

Describe the selected mode, setpoint, preheat behavior and cooking result. A temperature concern alone does not establish the failed component.

Ignition and flame behavior

Note which control was selected and what you safely observed before stopping use. Never relight manually, adjust a valve or reproduce a gas or flame concern.

Door, latch, fan and noise

Describe when the issue occurs and any safely visible door, seal, hinge or glass concern. Do not force a locked door or bypass a safety interlock.

Display and controls

Photograph the complete display and share the exact model. Do not include account passwords, enter diagnostic modes or assume a code has the same meaning across models.

Gas, electric, dual-fuel or induction

Use existing paperwork or a safely visible label to identify the range. Do not pull, tip or move it, and do not touch anti-tip, power, gas or ventilation connections.

San Diego installations

Know your range type.

Fuel type drives both the likely failure paths and the parts involved—identify yours from paperwork or the model label.

Gas

Igniters, spark modules and gas valves are the common paths. Never test-run a suspected gas fault to demonstrate it.

Electric and induction

Elements, relays and control boards dominate. Induction adds sealed electronics that are quoted after diagnosis.

Dual-fuel

A gas cooktop over an electric oven mixes both service paths—the complete model label matters even more.

Safe owner checks

Useful details—without opening panels, moving or resetting the range.

See, hear or smell signs of a gas leak?

Leave the area immediately. From a safe location, call 911 or SDG&E at 1-800-411-7343. Do not use the range, operate switches or return to demonstrate the concern.

SDG&E guidance

Fire in or around the range?

For an oven fire, keep the door closed if it is safe to do so. If flames escape, a surface fire is present or there is any doubt, leave the home and call 911. Do not reproduce the problem or use the range again.

USFA safety guidance
  • Note the affected burner, element or oven mode; the selected setting; preheat behavior; cooking result; and any displayed message.
  • Photograph the full display message and the complete model/serial label only if safely visible.
  • Share whether the unit is known to be gas, electric, dual-fuel or induction, and whether an installation change, power interruption, spill, self-clean cycle or prior service preceded the concern.
  • Do not remove panels, touch wiring, adjust a gas valve, enter diagnostic modes, force a locked door, move the range or defeat its anti-tip restraint.
  • For routine use, follow the matching owner guide. A reset, relight or cleaning cycle does not prove a range is safe after a fault.

Models and maintenance

Use the complete model label—then keep maintenance model-safe.

A model-family name alone does not establish parts, code meanings or repair eligibility. Share the complete label and installation details before model-specific guidance is used.

Find the model label safely

Photograph the complete model and serial label only when it is visible without moving the range, removing panels or reaching near wiring, gas or ventilation connections.

Keep routine care model-safe

Follow the matching owner guide for approved cleaning, burner, rack and exterior care. Do not run self-clean or a generic reset as a diagnostic step after a fault.

Protect the installation

Do not pull, tip or move the range, touch wiring, adjust a gas valve, alter ventilation or defeat the anti-tip restraint. Share known access and installation details when scheduling.

Our Work

How our range service works.

  1. Describe and identify

Share the appliance, installation, model label and observed concern when requesting service.

  2. Diagnose and review

The visit establishes the proposed repair scope. Review the estimate before authorizing work.

  3. Approve and complete

Work proceeds after approval. Any new scope requires separate approval before it is added.

Display messages

A range code needs the exact model context.

No general range error-code library is linked from this parent page. Keep the complete message with the model label; do not transfer a definition or reset instruction between brands or models. Existing model-specific URLs are not treated as universal guidance.

For a separate built-in or wall oven, use the oven repair parent. For a standalone cooktop, use the distinct cooktop repair parent. The nonexistent /stove-repair route is not created or linked.

Service visit and estimate

The residential service visit / diagnostic fee is $99. It always applies, is non-refundable and is credited toward the total repair cost if you proceed. No exceptions.

The commercial service visit / diagnostic fee is $150 and is separate from residential pricing.

After diagnosis, review the proposed scope and estimate before authorizing repair work.

Before requesting service

Helpful range-service questions.

Does the $99 residential diagnostic fee always apply?

Yes. It is non-refundable and credited toward the total repair cost if you proceed. There are no residential exceptions.

Do you service my street in La Mesa?

We take requests across La Mesa (ZIP 91941, 91942). Share gate codes, parking or building access when booking so the technician can plan the visit.

Should I reset a range after a display message?

Do not use a general page as a model-specific reset guide. Keep the exact display message and complete model label for the service discussion.

Should I reproduce a gas, spark or fire concern?

No. Stop using the range. For an oven fire, keep the door closed if it is safe. If flames escape, a surface fire is present, gas may be leaking or there is any doubt, leave and call 911 from a safe location.

Should I pull, tip or move the range?

No. Leave the anti-tip restraint and electrical, gas and ventilation connections intact. Describe the installation and access without moving equipment or bypassing a latch.

Does a brand link confirm support for my model?

No. The existing brand pages help route the request; the exact appliance, model, installation and requested scope still need confirmation.

Can I visit or arrange an appliance drop-off?

Visits are by appointment, and appliance drop-off is available by prior arrangement. Coordinate before arriving.

Why does my gas burner keep clicking after I cleaned the stove?

Water or cleaner got into the spark switch or around the electrode. Remove the burner cap and let the area dry for several hours, or gently air-dry it with a fan. Make sure the cap sits flat. If clicking continues once everything is dry, the switch or spark module may need replacing.

What is an anti-tip bracket, and does my range have one?

It's a metal bracket fastened to the floor or wall that locks one rear leg of the range. It keeps the range from tipping when weight is placed on the open door. Most ranges ship with one, but it's often left off after moves. We can check and install one during a visit.

My landlord's range has one dead burner. Can you just fix that?

Yes. A single dead coil or radiant burner is usually an element, infinite switch or terminal block, all routine parts. We'll diagnose it, share the quote with whoever authorizes repairs, and fix only what's needed. We'll also point out anything unsafe we notice, such as a burned receptacle.

What should I do if I smell gas near my range?

Leave the home right away without switching anything on or off, and call SDG&E at 1-800-411-7343 or 9-1-1 from outside. Don't try to find the leak yourself. After SDG&E clears the area, we can repair the range's valves, burners or connector.

Local notes · La Mesa

Stove and Range Repair in La Mesa

In a city where 55% of homes are rented, a lot of ranges change hands with the lease. Units get pulled out for cleaning between tenants, floors get replaced, and ranges get swapped for newer builder models. Every one of those moves is a chance for the anti-tip bracket to be left disengaged or a gas connector to be kinked. We repair freestanding and slide-in ranges, gas, electric and dual-fuel, from Whirlpool, GE, Frigidaire, Samsung and Wolf, and we check how the range is secured on every visit.

Rental Turnover and the Freestanding Range

La Mesa has about 26,000 housing units, and 55.1% are renter-occupied. Large apartment complexes make up around 36% of the housing stock, with duplexes and converted apartments adding another 10%. In that kind of market, the range is frequently a landlord-supplied builder-grade model that has served several households. Moving a range for turnover cleaning or new flooring is routine, but if the anti-tip bracket isn't re-engaged afterward, the range can tip forward when someone leans on or loads the open oven door. CPSC's tip-over report counted 9 stove and oven tip-over deaths from January 2013 to July 2023, 60% of all appliance tip-over deaths; of the 15 appliance tip-over deaths in that period, 7 were children and 7 were seniors. A second pattern is ignition trouble after cleaning. Spark electrodes and switches on gas cooktops dislike moisture; a mopped-down surface or a boil-over can leave a burner clicking nonstop. In older single-family homes built in the 1940s through 1960s, ranges often connect to gas lines and shutoff valves that are decades old, and SDG&E notes the homeowner is responsible for gas piping on the house side of the meter. On electric ranges, older terminal blocks and receptacles can burn at the connection.

Range Problems We See After Moves and Cleanings

Burner clicks and won't stop

Symptom: Sparking continues with the flame lit, or clicking happens with the knob off. Cause: Moisture from cleaning or a boil-over, a burner cap sitting crooked, a wet or failed switch, or a polarity or grounding issue at the outlet. Fix: Dry the burner and switch area, reseat the cap, check the outlet wiring and replace the switch, electrode or spark module if needed.

Range rocks when the oven door is loaded

Symptom: The back lifts slightly when you press on the open door. Cause: The anti-tip bracket is missing or wasn't re-engaged after the range was moved. Fix: Install or re-engage the bracket so the rear leg locks in. This is a quick fix that prevents a serious injury.

Weak, yellow or lifting flame

Symptom: Burners light slowly, burn yellow and sooty, or the flame lifts off the ports. Cause: Clogged burner ports, the wrong orifices after a propane-to-natural-gas conversion, a misadjusted air shutter or a regulator problem. Fix: Clean the ports and verify gas type, orifices and regulator setting.

Coil or radiant burner dead or stuck on high

Symptom: One surface element won't heat or can't be turned down. Cause: An open element, a failed infinite switch or a burned terminal block or receptacle. Fix: Test and replace the element, switch or receptacle, and inspect wiring for heat damage.

Simple Range Checks for Tenants and Owners

Keep burners and the range top clean to prevent grease fires, and clear clogged ports with a toothpick rather than a wire that can enlarge them. Let everything dry fully after cleaning before lighting a burner. Run the range hood while cooking. Owners should confirm the anti-tip bracket after every move-out. Never use a gas range to heat a room. If you smell gas or hear hissing, leave immediately and call SDG&E at 1-800-411-7343 or 9-1-1 from outside. Carbon monoxide alarms belong on every level.

  • Confirm the anti-tip bracket at every tenant turnover or floor project
  • Clean burner caps and ports monthly, and after any boil-over
  • Dry the cooktop fully before relighting after cleaning
  • Schedule a yearly gas appliance safety check
  • Keep a carbon monoxide alarm on each floor, outside the kitchen

What to Know Before a Range Appointment

Clear the cooktop and remove pans from the oven. We may slide the range out to reach the gas connection, outlet or bracket, so tell us about new flooring or tile. Renters should notify the property manager and confirm who approves repairs. For apartment complexes, send gate, building and parking details. Have the model and serial number, often behind the storage drawer or on the oven frame, and note whether the range is gas, electric or dual-fuel. Any gas smell means SDG&E first, then us.

Is a Range Worth Repairing?

Most range repairs, such as switches, igniters, electrodes and elements, cost far less than a new unit, and gas ranges are commonly cited as lasting about 15 years. Pro-style ranges are nearly always repaired. A failing control board on an older builder model is the case where replacement may win. The $99 diagnostic is credited toward the repair. For rentals, we send the owner a clear quote.
