Coronado coverage
Coronado is an island in practice - salt air on every exposed panel, historic homes beside naval housing, and ferry-and-bridge logistics we plan around every week.
South Bay and East County bring summer heat, hard water and hard-working family appliances - practical repairs with strong parts availability are the local priority.
Typical repair pricing
Estimated cooktop repair pricing for common work in standard installations. The exact scope and total are confirmed after diagnosis and before authorized repair work begins.
$99 residential diagnostic fee: non-refundable and credited toward the total repair cost when you proceed. Parts, model, installation, access and the confirmed repair scope can change the final total.

This parent page helps route a standalone cooktop request. A symptom, feature name or brand link does not by itself identify a failed part or confirm support for every model, fuel type, cutout or installation.
Describe which position is affected, the selected setting and what happens. A no-heat symptom alone does not establish the failed component.
Note the burner or zone, cookware used, selected level and whether the behavior changes. Do not continue testing a surface that overheats or will not shut off.
Note which control was selected and what you safely observed before stopping use. Never relight manually, clear ports with tools, adjust a valve or reproduce a gas or flame concern.
Photograph the visible condition without pressing, lifting or using the damaged area. Stop use if glass is cracked or live parts may be exposed.
Photograph the complete display and share the exact model. Do not include account passwords, remove knobs to access components, enter diagnostic modes or assume a code is universal.
Use existing paperwork or a safely visible label to identify the cooktop. Do not lift it from the counter or touch power, gas, ventilation or mounting connections.
San Diego installations
Surface and fuel type set the service path—identify yours from the model label, not the look of the surface.
Burners, igniters and spark modules. Clicking that will not stop is a common, diagnosable symptom—do not keep triggering it.
Elements and surface switches under a glass top. A cracked top is replaced as a part, quoted by exact model.
Sealed electronics drive the cost profile. Cookware compatibility issues can mimic faults—note the pan you used.
Safe owner checks
Leave the area immediately. From a safe location, call 911 or SDG&E at 1-800-411-7343. Do not use the cooktop, operate switches or return to demonstrate the concern.
Do not reproduce the problem. If there is fire, smoke, exposed live parts or any doubt, leave the home and call 911. Do not touch the surface, controls or nearby electrical/gas connections.
Models and maintenance
A model-family name alone does not establish parts, code meanings or repair eligibility. Share the complete label and installation details before model-specific guidance is used.
Photograph the complete model and serial label only when it is visible without moving the cooktop, removing panels or reaching near wiring, gas or ventilation connections.
Follow the matching owner guide for approved surface, burner, grate and exterior care. Do not use a generic reset or unverified cleaning method as a diagnostic step.
Do not lift the cooktop from the counter, touch wiring, adjust a gas valve, alter ventilation or mounting connections. Share known access and installation details when scheduling.
Our Work
Share the appliance, installation, model label and observed concern when requesting service.
The visit establishes the proposed repair scope. Review the estimate before authorizing work.
Work proceeds after approval. Any new scope requires separate approval before it is added.
Display messages
No general cooktop error-code library is linked from this parent page. Keep the complete message with the model label; do not transfer a definition or reset instruction between brands or models. Existing model-specific URLs are not treated as universal guidance.
For a complete range with an oven cavity, use the distinct range repair parent. For a separate built-in or wall oven, use the oven repair parent. Those pages are not duplicate targets for this standalone-cooktop identity.
Visit, pricing and warranty wording
The residential service visit / diagnostic fee is $99. It always applies, is non-refundable and is credited toward the total repair cost if you proceed. No exceptions.
The commercial service visit / diagnostic fee is $150 and is separate from residential pricing.
After diagnosis, review the proposed scope and estimate before authorizing repair work.
Review current pricing information90-day labor warranty.
1-year parts warranty.
Both terms begin on the date the repair is completed.
An online request starts scheduling; it does not by itself confirm an appointment or a model-specific repair outcome.

Water from cleaning can seep into the knob switches or around the electrodes. A wet switch tells the spark module to keep firing. Leave the burners off and let the top air-dry for several hours. If it still clicks the next day, the switch or module may be corroded, and that needs a technician.
Often it's normal. Some cookware with layered bases buzzes on induction, and the cooling fan runs during and after cooking. What isn't normal is a loud grinding fan, a burning smell, or a zone that shuts off repeatedly. Those point to a fan or power board that needs service.
No. A crack lets spills and cleaning water reach the element or induction coil below, which can short the zone or the board. Stop using the cooktop, switch it off at the breaker if the crack is large, and have the glass assessed. Glass replacement often includes the elements.
Yes. We service gas, radiant and induction units there and elsewhere on the island. Because the towers are managed buildings, check with the office about elevator reservations and any rules on work hours. Share those with us when you book so the visit starts on time.
Local notes · Coronado
A gas cooktop lights with a tiny spark jumping from a ceramic electrode to the burner cap. That gap is small, and it doesn't like moisture or corrosion. Coronado sits between the Pacific and San Diego Bay, and from May through August the marine layer keeps kitchen air cool and damp. Salt film on an electrode or a spark-module terminal can make a burner click without lighting, or click after it lights. Induction and radiant tops have their own weak spots. We diagnose all three types across the island, from GE and Whirlpool to Bosch and Wolf.
The spark module sends high voltage to every electrode at once when you turn any knob. A small switch behind each knob tells the module when to stop. On the island, two things work against that circuit. Salt carried in from both shorelines settles as a film on metal parts, and the May Gray and June Gloom months add moisture that the film holds onto. A wet or corroded knob switch can keep the module firing, which is why steady clicking is a familiar coastal complaint. Burner bases and electrode tips corrode too, so the spark wanders to the wrong spot. Induction units trade that problem for electronics. A coil under the glass builds a fast-changing magnetic field that heats the pan itself, and a power board and cooling fan sit in the cabinet below. Salt air can attack board connectors, and a fan pulling in dog hair or fine beach grit, including the mica found in Coronado sand, loses airflow. The unit then trips its overheat protection mid-cook. Radiant glass tops are the simplest of the three, but a ribbon element or infinite switch still wears out.
Symptom: Burners keep sparking after they light, or with every knob off. Cause: Moisture after cleaning or a boil-over, a burner cap sitting crooked, a salt-corroded knob switch, or a failing spark module. Fix: Let the top dry fully and reseat caps first. If clicking continues, we test each switch and the module, then replace the faulty part.
Symptom: The zone shuts off, the fan roars, or an error code appears. Cause: Blocked cooling air under the cabinet, a fan clogged with pet hair or grit, or a failing power board. Fix: We clear the air path, clean or replace the fan and test the board. Board work is high tier, so we quote before ordering parts.
Symptom: No flame, a lifting flame, or yellow soot on pans. Cause: Food or corrosion in the burner ports, a mis-seated cap, or the wrong orifice after a propane or natural gas conversion. Fix: We clean ports, check orifices and confirm the regulator matches the fuel. Gas valve work is never a DIY job.
Symptom: One zone stays cold or won't turn down. Cause: An open ribbon element, a failed infinite switch or relay, or a tripped limiter. Fix: We ohm-test the element, switch and limiter, check the terminal block for heat damage and replace only the part that failed.
Most cooktop problems begin with something small left too long: a spill that sits, a cap that's off-center, a fan that nobody cleans. On the island, add a salt check. Wipe the top and burner parts with a damp cloth, then dry them, because standing moisture is what lets salt film conduct. Keep the air path under an induction cabinet clear of stored pans and cleaning supplies. SDG&E recommends a yearly inspection of gas appliances and offers no-cost safety checks.
Most island homes are reached over the bridge or up the Silver Strand, so we plan arrival windows around traffic. For Coronado Shores units, ask the building office whether a service elevator reservation is required, and for the Cays, arrange gate entry. Have the model and serial numbers ready; on many cooktops the label is under the burner box or on the underside, so a photo from the installation paperwork helps. Tell us the fuel type and describe what the burner or zone does. If you smell gas at any point, leave the home and call SDG&E before calling us.
Knob switches, spark modules, electrodes and radiant elements are low to middle tier repairs, so a cooktop that's otherwise sound is usually worth fixing. Stovetops commonly last 15 to 18 years. The harder call is an induction power board or a cracked glass top; either can approach the price of a new unit, especially on an older model. Our $99 diagnostic tells you which case you're in before you spend more.
