Service scope

Start with the cooktop and the behavior you see.

This parent page helps route a standalone cooktop request. A symptom, feature name or brand link does not by itself identify a failed part or confirm support for every model, fuel type, cutout or installation.

Burner or element will not heat

Describe which position is affected, the selected setting and what happens. A no-heat symptom alone does not establish the failed component.

Heat level is uneven or unstable

Note the burner or zone, cookware used, selected level and whether the behavior changes. Do not continue testing a surface that overheats or will not shut off.

Ignition, clicking or flame behavior

Note which control was selected and what you safely observed before stopping use. Never relight manually, clear ports with tools, adjust a valve or reproduce a gas or flame concern.

Cracked glass or damaged surface

Photograph the visible condition without pressing, lifting or using the damaged area. Stop use if glass is cracked or live parts may be exposed.

Display, touch or knob controls

Photograph the complete display and share the exact model. Do not include account passwords, remove knobs to access components, enter diagnostic modes or assume a code is universal.

Gas, electric or induction configuration

Use existing paperwork or a safely visible label to identify the cooktop. Do not lift it from the counter or touch power, gas, ventilation or mounting connections.

San Diego installations

Know your cooktop type.

Surface and fuel type set the service path—identify yours from the model label, not the look of the surface.

Gas

Burners, igniters and spark modules. Clicking that will not stop is a common, diagnosable symptom—do not keep triggering it.

Radiant electric

Elements and surface switches under a glass top. A cracked top is replaced as a part, quoted by exact model.

Induction

Sealed electronics drive the cost profile. Cookware compatibility issues can mimic faults—note the pan you used.

Safe owner checks

Useful details—without opening panels, lifting or resetting the cooktop.

See, hear or smell signs of a gas leak?

Leave the area immediately. From a safe location, call 911 or SDG&E at 1-800-411-7343. Do not use the cooktop, operate switches or return to demonstrate the concern.

SDG&E guidance

Fire, sparking or a surface that will not shut off?

Do not reproduce the problem. If there is fire, smoke, exposed live parts or any doubt, leave the home and call 911. Do not touch the surface, controls or nearby electrical/gas connections.

USFA safety guidance
  • Note the affected burner or element, selected setting, cookware used, observed heat or flame behavior and any displayed message.
  • Photograph the full display message and the complete model/serial label only if safely visible.
  • Share whether the unit is known to be gas, electric or induction, and whether an installation change, power interruption, spill or prior service preceded the concern.
  • Do not remove panels, lift the cooktop, touch wiring, adjust a gas valve, enter diagnostic modes or bypass a control or safety interlock.
  • For routine use, follow the matching owner guide. A reset, relight or cleaning attempt does not prove a cooktop is safe after a fault.

Models and maintenance

Use the complete model label—then keep maintenance model-safe.

A model-family name alone does not establish parts, code meanings or repair eligibility. Share the complete label and installation details before model-specific guidance is used.

Find the model label safely

Photograph the complete model and serial label only when it is visible without moving the cooktop, removing panels or reaching near wiring, gas or ventilation connections.

Keep routine care model-safe

Follow the matching owner guide for approved surface, burner, grate and exterior care. Do not use a generic reset or unverified cleaning method as a diagnostic step.

Protect the installation

Do not lift the cooktop from the counter, touch wiring, adjust a gas valve, alter ventilation or mounting connections. Share known access and installation details when scheduling.

Our Work

How our cooktop service works.

  1. Describe and identify

Share the appliance, installation, model label and observed concern when requesting service.

  2. Diagnose and review

The visit establishes the proposed repair scope. Review the estimate before authorizing work.

  3. Approve and complete

Work proceeds after approval. Any new scope requires separate approval before it is added.

Display messages

A cooktop code needs the exact model context.

No general cooktop error-code library is linked from this parent page. Keep the complete message with the model label; do not transfer a definition or reset instruction between brands or models. Existing model-specific URLs are not treated as universal guidance.

For a complete range with an oven cavity, use the distinct range repair parent. For a separate built-in or wall oven, use the oven repair parent. Those pages are not duplicate targets for this standalone-cooktop identity.

Service visit and estimate

The residential service visit / diagnostic fee is $99. It always applies, is non-refundable and is credited toward the total repair cost if you proceed. No exceptions.

The commercial service visit / diagnostic fee is $150 and is separate from residential pricing.

After diagnosis, review the proposed scope and estimate before authorizing repair work.

Before requesting service

Helpful cooktop-service questions.

Does the $99 residential diagnostic fee always apply?

Yes. It is non-refundable and credited toward the total repair cost if you proceed. There are no residential exceptions.

Do you service my street in Kearny Mesa & Serra Mesa?

We take requests across Kearny Mesa & Serra Mesa (ZIP 92123). Share gate codes, parking or building access when booking so the technician can plan the visit.

Should I reset a cooktop after a display message?

Do not use a general page as a model-specific reset guide. Keep the exact display message and complete model label for the service discussion.

Should I reproduce a gas, spark or fire concern?

No. Stop using the cooktop. If fire, smoke, exposed live parts or a suspected gas leak is present, leave and call 911 from a safe location.

Should I lift the cooktop from the counter?

No. Leave electrical, gas, ventilation and mounting connections intact. Describe the installation and access without lifting equipment or bypassing a control.

Does a brand link confirm support for my model?

No. The existing brand pages help route the request; the exact appliance, model, installation and requested scope still need confirmation.

Can I visit or arrange an appliance drop-off?

Visits are by appointment, and appliance drop-off is available by prior arrangement. Coordinate before arriving.

Can I use a wok on an induction cooktop?

Only a flat-bottomed wok made of magnetic material. Round-bottom woks do not make enough contact, and the cooktop may refuse to start or heat unevenly. Some owners keep a gas burner or a dedicated induction wok unit for high-heat stir-frying.

Why does my induction cooktop buzz?

A hum or buzz is normal with some cookware, especially pans with layered bases, and from the cooling fan. A grinding or rattling fan, or buzzing along with shutdowns, points to a failing fan that should be replaced. We can tell the two apart on a visit.

Is a cracked glass cooktop safe to use?

No. A crack can let spills reach the elements or induction coils and cause shorts, and the glass can spread under heat. Switch the cooktop off at the breaker if a zone behaves oddly, avoid using it, and schedule a glass replacement.

My gas cooktop burner will not light but others do. What is wrong?

First check that the cap sits flat and the burner is completely dry. Grease in the ports or a wet switch are common causes. If that one burner clicks but never lights, the electrode or its wire may be cracked, which we can replace quickly.

Cooktop Repair in Kearny Mesa

Cooktops come in three very different technologies, and each one reacts to Kearny Mesa conditions in its own way. Induction units depend on a cooling fan pulling cabinet air across power electronics. Radiant glass tops rely on ribbon elements and switches. Gas cooktops need clean ports and dry spark electrodes. We service all three, from Bosch, GE and Frigidaire to Thermador and Wolf, in homes and apartments across 92111 and 92123, and we start by asking which type you have.

Dust, Warm Cabinets and Induction Electronics

An induction cooktop runs a coil under the glass at roughly 25 to 50 kHz, inducing current in any magnetic pan set on top. The power board that drives the coil makes its own heat, so a fan pulls air from the cabinet below and blows it across the board and heat sinks. That air carries whatever is in the room. On the mesa, which is mostly commercial and industrial land framed by freeways and Montgomery Field, fine dust is part of that air, and pet hair joins it in family homes. Dust coats the fan and fins, the board runs hotter, and the cooktop starts shutting zones down mid-cook with an overheat code. Kitchen heat compounds it: a cooktop installed over a wall oven, or in a warm kitchen on an August afternoon averaging 82.0 F at the airfield, has less cooling margin. Cookware matters as well. Induction needs flat, magnetic pans in good contact with the glass. Round-bottom woks and warped pans trigger no-pan warnings that look like a failure but are not one. Gas cooktops have simpler enemies: boil-overs soak spark electrodes and grease fills burner ports.

Cooktop Failures We Handle on the Mesa

Induction overheating shutdown

Symptom: Zones cut out partway through cooking, an error code flashes, the fan sounds loud or rough. Cause: Blocked cabinet air path, a fan clogged with dust or pet hair, a failing fan, or a power board or IGBT fault. Fix: Clear the air path, clean or replace the fan, and diagnose the power board if the fault continues.

Induction zone will not start

Symptom: Flashing pan indicator, zone stays off. Cause: Non-magnetic, warped, round or undersized cookware, a pan off-center, or a failed coil or power board. Fix: Test with a flat pan a magnet sticks to. If the zone still will not start, we test the coil and board. A pan that sits flat and is centered on the ring usually settles the question in a minute.

Radiant zone dead or stuck on high

Symptom: One area never heats, or glows red at every setting. Cause: An open ribbon element, a failed infinite switch or relay, or a tripped limiter. Radiant tops share wiring with the other zones, so one burnt terminal can affect a neighbor. Fix: Test the element, infinite switch and limiter, check the terminal wiring for heat damage, then replace the failed part.

Cracked glass

Symptom: Visible crack or chip; a zone may stop working or trip a breaker. Cause: Impact from heavy pots, sugar spills fused to hot glass, or thermal shock. Fix: Stop using the cooktop, switch it off at the breaker if a zone acts up, and replace the glass top, which often comes with new elements.

Keeping a Cooktop Cool and Clean

For induction, the cabinet below is part of the cooling system. Keep it open to airflow, do not stuff it with towels or pans against the vents, and vacuum the intake grille. Wipe sugary spills on glass right away. On gas cooktops, dry burners fully after cleaning and have the gas appliances checked each year.

  • Vacuum induction intake vents every 3 months in dusty or pet homes
  • Use flat-bottomed cookware; check pans with a magnet
  • Wipe sugar spills on glass immediately, before they cool
  • Clean gas burner ports monthly with heavy use

Booking Cooktop Service in 92111 or 92123

Tell us the cooktop type, width and the model and serial from the underside label or the manual. Clear the cabinet under the cooktop so we can reach connections and the fan. Note which zones or burners are affected and photograph any error code. In apartment buildings, share access and parking. For gas units, if you smell gas, leave the home and call SDG&E first.

Repair Costs by Cooktop Type

Switches, elements and igniters are low to middle tier repairs. Induction power boards and replacement glass are high tier and can approach the price of a new cooktop. Cooktops are typically cited at 15 to 18 years of life, so a newer unit usually deserves repair. Our $99 diagnostic is credited toward the work. If the glass must be replaced, we confirm part availability before ordering.
