This parent page helps route a standalone cooktop request. A symptom, feature name or brand link does not by itself identify a failed part or confirm support for every model, fuel type, cutout or installation.
Describe which position is affected, the selected setting and what happens. A no-heat symptom alone does not establish the failed component.
Note the burner or zone, cookware used, selected level and whether the behavior changes. Do not continue testing a surface that overheats or will not shut off.
Note which control was selected and what you safely observed before stopping use. Never relight manually, clear ports with tools, adjust a valve or reproduce a gas or flame concern.
Photograph the visible condition without pressing, lifting or using the damaged area. Stop use if glass is cracked or live parts may be exposed.
Photograph the complete display and share the exact model. Do not include account passwords, remove knobs to access components, enter diagnostic modes or assume a code is universal.
Use existing paperwork or a safely visible label to identify the cooktop. Do not lift it from the counter or touch power, gas, ventilation or mounting connections.
San Diego installations
Surface and fuel type set the service path—identify yours from the model label, not the look of the surface.
Burners, igniters and spark modules. Clicking that will not stop is a common, diagnosable symptom—do not keep triggering it.
Elements and surface switches under a glass top. A cracked top is replaced as a part, quoted by exact model.
Sealed electronics drive the cost profile. Cookware compatibility issues can mimic faults—note the pan you used.
Safe owner checks
Leave the area immediately. From a safe location, call 911 or SDG&E at 1-800-411-7343. Do not use the cooktop, operate switches or return to demonstrate the concern.
Do not reproduce the problem. If there is fire, smoke, exposed live parts or any doubt, leave the home and call 911. Do not touch the surface, controls or nearby electrical/gas connections.
Models and maintenance
A model-family name alone does not establish parts, code meanings or repair eligibility. Share the complete label and installation details before model-specific guidance is used.
Photograph the complete model and serial label only when it is visible without moving the cooktop, removing panels or reaching near wiring, gas or ventilation connections.
Follow the matching owner guide for approved surface, burner, grate and exterior care. Do not use a generic reset or unverified cleaning method as a diagnostic step.
Do not lift the cooktop from the counter, touch wiring, adjust a gas valve, alter ventilation or mounting connections. Share known access and installation details when scheduling.
Our Work
Share the appliance, installation, model label and observed concern when requesting service.
The visit establishes the proposed repair scope. Review the estimate before authorizing work.
Work proceeds after approval. Any new scope requires separate approval before it is added.
Display messages
No general cooktop error-code library is linked from this parent page. Keep the complete message with the model label; do not transfer a definition or reset instruction between brands or models. Existing model-specific URLs are not treated as universal guidance.
For a complete range with an oven cavity, use the distinct range repair parent. For a separate built-in or wall oven, use the oven repair parent. Those pages are not duplicate targets for this standalone-cooktop identity.
Visit, pricing and warranty wording
The residential service visit / diagnostic fee is $99. It always applies, is non-refundable and is credited toward the total repair cost if you proceed. No exceptions.
The commercial service visit / diagnostic fee is $150 and is separate from residential pricing.
After diagnosis, review the proposed scope and estimate before authorizing repair work.

1-year parts warranty.
Both terms begin on the date the repair is completed.
An online request starts scheduling; it does not by itself confirm an appointment or a model-specific repair outcome.

Usually overheating. The cooling fan may be blocked, dirty or failing, so the board protects itself by cutting power. Check the space below the cooktop for anything blocking the vents. If that's clear and it keeps happening, the fan or power board needs service.
Some buzzing or humming is normal with certain cookware, especially pans with layered bases, and from the cooling fan. A loud grinding, a rattle, or a fan that never stops after cooking may point to a failing fan that should be checked.
The glass has to be replaced; it can't be patched safely. Stop using the cooktop and switch off its breaker. On many units the glass comes with the elements attached. We check the model and quote the cost before ordering parts.
The likely causes are moisture, a misaligned burner cap, or a failed switch or spark module. Let the burner dry, then reseat the cap so it sits flat. If it still won't light, or you smell gas, stop and call. For a gas smell, leave and call SDG&E first.
Local notes · Lemon Grove
Lemon Grove kitchens are in the middle of a switch. Owners renovating houses from the 1940s to 1960s are swapping old coil and gas cooktops for induction and smooth glass, and the new units don't always suit their surroundings. Induction depends on an internal cooling fan and clear airflow under the counter, and cabinets in older homes weren't built with that in mind. The gas cooktops that remain have their own ignition quirks. We repair induction, radiant and gas cooktops from Bosch and GE to Samsung, Thermador and Wolf.
Induction cooktops heat by passing a high-frequency magnetic field through the glass into ferromagnetic cookware. The power electronics underneath make heat of their own, so every unit has a cooling fan and an overheat sensor that shuts the zone down when the board gets too warm. When a new induction top goes into a cabinet built decades ago, the space below is often crowded with drawers or sits right above an oven, leaving little room for the fan to pull in cooler air. About half of Lemon Grove homes were built between 1940 and 1969, and older electrical and venting in those houses can limit new appliance installs, so a cooktop upgrade may also involve the panel. In summer, kitchens here start warmer, with August highs averaging near 82°F and a hot season lasting until late September, which trims the cooling margin further. Radiant glass tops have simpler controls but add the risk of cracked glass from impact, sugar spills or thermal shock. Gas cooktops still fill many kitchens, and spark ignition problems tend to appear after spills or cleaning. Pet hair and dust drawn into induction fans add to overheating.
Symptom: Zones shut off mid-cook, an overheat code appears, or the fan sounds louder than usual. Cause: A blocked cooling air path, a fan packed with dust or pet hair, a failed fan, or a power board fault. Fix: We clear ventilation, clean or replace the fan, and repair the board if needed.
Symptom: A flashing symbol and a zone that won't start, even with a pan in place. Cause: Non-magnetic, warped or undersized cookware, a pan off center, or a failed coil or power board. Fix: We test with a pan a magnet sticks to, then diagnose the coil or board.
Symptom: One zone never glows, or it stays on high no matter the setting. Cause: An open ribbon element, a failed infinite switch or relay, or a tripped limiter. Fix: We test each part and replace the one that failed, then check wiring for heat damage.
Symptom: A visible crack or chip; the affected zone may trip the breaker or short. Cause: Impact from a dropped pan, sugar spills bonding to hot glass, thermal shock or heavy cookware. Fix: We replace the glass top, which on many models comes with the elements attached.
Wipe sugary spills promptly, before they bond to hot glass. Use flat, clean-bottomed cookware and lift rather than slide heavy pans. Keep the air path under an induction unit open and avoid packing the drawer directly below. For gas cooktops, keep burners and caps clean and schedule an annual gas appliance check. Clean stainless burner bases gently so ports stay open. If someone in your home has a pacemaker or other implant, follow their physician's and the manufacturer's guidance on induction.
Clear the cooktop surface and empty the cabinet or drawer directly below, since many repairs are done from underneath. For induction and radiant units, know where the breaker is. For gas units, know where the shutoff valve sits. Have the model and serial number, usually on a label under the unit or in the manual. Tell us the error code, which zone is affected and when it happens. If you smell gas, leave the home and call SDG&E first.
Switches, elements, spark modules and igniters are low to mid cost repairs on any cooktop. Induction power boards and glass replacement are higher tier and can approach the price of a new unit, so we lay out both options. Stovetops are commonly cited to last 15 to 18 years. Our $99 diagnostic is credited toward whichever repair you choose to go ahead with.
